  • Patent number: 5929329
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method of determining correction factors by which the different tire-tread circumferences are ascertained and compensated, wherein a short-time correction factor (KZ.sub.Rn) and a long-time correction factor (LZ.sub.RN) is developed for each wheel, the deviation (D.sub.Rn) of the short-time correction factor from the long-time correction factor is determined and the deviation is weighted by way of a band-pass filter (3), wherein subsequently a long-time average value (LM.sub.Rn) of the weighted deviation (D'Rn) is developed, and a partial value (TW.sub.Rn) of the long-time average value (LM.sub.Rn) is assessed, as a function of the driving condition, for the correction and adaption of the long-time correction factor (LZ.sub.Rn).

  • Patent number: 5927826
Abstract: To minimize the power losses of the pump motor in a hydraulic brake system with brake slip control and traction slip control, a shut-off valve prevents flow in the suction line when the supply pressure of the pump is sufficient for traction slip control. This prevents the aspiration of further pressure fluid volume from the pressure fluid reservoir. The pump does not return any fluid volume into the pressure fluid reservoir by way of a pressure-relief valve so that the motor of the pump is relieved. Preferably, the shut-off valve is designed so that the master cylinder pressure acts in the opening direction and the supply pressure of the pump acts in the closing direction of the shut-off valve, the valve being biassed in the opening direction by a compression spring.

  • Patent number: 5929534
Abstract: A device for improving the performance of a vehicle having a driving unit, a plurality of wheels and wheel brakes is furnished with a moisture sensor indicating the environmental humidity. The moisture sensor provides its information to an electronic controller of a brake system and optionally another automatic device, such as a ventilation system, window control or sunroof control. The knowledge about the humidity is useful to determine the friction coefficient of the road surface. It is advantageous to measure also the environmental temperature to recognize at least temperatures below the freezing point. If the friction coefficient is known, an electronic control unit can estimate the maximum transferable wheel forces or the maximum achievable vehicle acceleration.

  • Patent number: 5926906
Abstract: The invention relates to a wind deflector for fastening to the main bracket of a wiper blade with openings in its spine, whereby fastening is accomplished with first fastening sections for screwing and additional second fastening sections for locking at the side wall of the main bracket that is in front in the direction of travel. Second fastening sections are in each case made from two surfaces that face one another a short distance apart and are connected to one another at the upper edge, one surface of which has a catching projection at the lower edge which can engage under the lower edge of the side wall of the main bracket. To increase the strength or stability of second fastening section or the connection of wind deflector and the wiper blade, one of the two walls of fastening section is wider, at least at its lower edge, than the other and in each case has a catching projection in the laterally projecting areas.

  • Patent number: 5927828
Abstract: The present invention relates to a hydraulic automotive vehicle brake system with brake slip control and automatic brake management for traction control and driving dynamics control including a braking pressure generator which is hydraulically connectable with at least one wheel brake and a pressure fluid accumulator by way of pressure modulation valves, a pump which is connected with its suction side to the pressure fluid accumulator and with its pressure side to a pressure fluid conduit which extends from the braking pressure generator to the wheel brake and accommodates the pressure modulation valves. The pressure fluid accumulator is partially charged, to which end a pressure fluid connection between the pressure fluid accumulator and the suction side of the pump can be closed. Upon attainment of the maximum partial charge, excessive pressure fluid volume can be withdrawn from the pressure fluid accumulator, and the capacity of the pressure fluid accumulator is not exhausted.

  • Patent number: 5924775
Abstract: The invention is based on the objective of simplifying the filling of a auxiliary reservoir that provides an additional medium pressure volume for the suction side of a return pump. For this purpose, the invention proposes to utilize a separating piston that is charged on one side by the main cylinder pressure and on the other side by a compression spring. The pressure medium is conveyed from the main reservoir to the auxiliary reservoir by means of two return valves while the separating piston is displaced. Due to the stepped design of the separating piston, only a small volume displacement is required on the side of the main cylinder for supplying a large charge volume to the auxiliary reservoir.

  • Patent number: 5925941
Abstract: An automatic fog light cutoff, controlled by the headlights, is described for motor vehicles. The switching circuit for the automatic fog light cutoff is comprised of two current leads connected to each other through a normally-open relay. When the fog lights are switched on, the relay that is connected to the ground of the headlight current lead closes the fog light current lead and thus activates the fog lights. If the headlights are switched on, the current flow in the relay between the fog light current lead and the headlight current lead is interrupted, such that the currentless normally-open relay opens the fog light current lead and shuts off the fog lights.

  • Patent number: 5918949
Abstract: A brake system including a master cylinder connected to wheel brakes is supplemented by a fluid return system made up of return pumps so that the braking pressure can be adjusted in the wheel brakes. In order to extend this system to a brake system which permits the generation of wheel brake pressure without the application of the brake pedal, the suction side of at least one return pump is connected to the pressure side of a charging pump which aspirates fluid directly from the supply reservoir. To prevent the pressure in the low-pressure range of the system from rising excessively high, the charging pressure of the pump is adjusted so that it only slightly exceeds the precharging pressure of the suction side of the low-pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 5909077
Abstract: The invention describes a carbon brush for an electrical machine. Carbon brushes of this type need to fulfill two requirements. First, the carbon brush should be as resistant to abrasion as possible. Second, as little noise as possible should be generated at the brush/collector crossover during the operation of the motor. Consequently, the invention proposes to bevel the face surface of the carbon brush, and to provide the face surface with transverse grooves within its lower region.
