  • Patent number: 7349781
Abstract: The controller in an electric power steering apparatus stores the relationship between the steering torque and the basic assist torque in which the relationship is stored as assist characteristic, and stores the relationship between the steering angle correspondence value corresponding to the steering angle of the vehicle and the motor output correction value in which the relationship is stored as correction characteristic. The controller corrects the output of the motor, which is required in order to generate the basic assist torque, in accordance with the motor output correction value determined from the steering angle correspondence value and correction characteristic, in which the basic assist torque is determined from the steering torque and assist characteristic.

  • Publication number: 20080067025
Abstract: A one-way clutch includes an inner ring, an outer ring disposed coaxially with the inner ring, a plurality of rollers interposed between the inner and outer rings, a cage holding the rollers to locate these rollers in a circumferential direction of the inner and outer rings. When the rollers are brought into biting engagement with an outer peripheral surface of the inner ring and an inner peripheral surface of the outer ring, the inner and outer rings rotate in unison, and when the rollers are disposed out of biting engagement with the inner and outer rings, the inner and outer rings rotate relative to each other. Grooves are formed in the outer peripheral surface of the inner ring, and each of the grooves serves to increase a contact pressure of the corresponding roller relative to the inner ring at part of a region of contact between the roller and the inner ring.

  • Publication number: 20080066994
Abstract: When it is determined that the torque output from the electric motor abnormally fluctuates or the torque output from the electric motor varies between clockwise and counterclockwise turning operations of the driver's steering wheel, the steering assist control is continued if the vehicle speed v is equal to or lower than the reference speed v0. In this case, the width of the dead band of the steering torque in the assist map used to calculate the target assist torque is increased. Thus, only in a case where the vehicle is moving at a low speed and the driver's steering wheel is operated with a great force, the steering assist torque is produced to alleviate the burden on the driver. In the other cases, the electric motor is stopped to minimize a sense of discomfort in the steering operation.

  • Publication number: 20080067024
Abstract: In a power transmitting device, projections are formed on a surface of a main cam that faces an armature. This structure causes the main cam to contact the armature only at distal surfaces of the projections. The area of the distal surfaces of the projections is in a range where the magnetic flux density generated at the distal surfaces of the projections by the electromagnet is saturated. Therefore, reduction of the responsiveness and controllability of the power transmitting device due to magnetization of the main cam is suppressed.

  • Publication number: 20080061645
Abstract: A motor includes a rotor having a permanent magnet fitted thereon, and a stator having an inner peripheral surface spaced a predetermined distance from an outer peripheral surface of the rotor in opposed relation thereto, and the stator is press-fitted in a motor case to be fixed thereto with its outer peripheral surface. A plurality of projecting portions are formed on an inner peripheral surface of the motor case. Recess portions for engagement with the respective projecting portions are formed in the outer peripheral surface of the stator. When the stator is press-fitted into the motor case, the stator is fixed to the motor case with inner bottom surfaces of the recess portions serving as press-fitting surfaces. The projecting portions of the motor case are engaged respectively in the recess portions of the stator, thereby preventing the rotation of the stator relative to the motor case.

  • Patent number: 7341125
Abstract: The invention provides an electric power steering apparatus which can improve a steering feeling. In the electric power steering apparatus, in the case that once the electric abnormality is generated in the hardware such as the motor, the torque sensor or the like and an output of the assist force by the motor is reduced, however, the electric abnormality is thereafter dissolved due to some kind or another reason, the output of the assist force by the motor is increased immediately to an intermediate target value (within a broken line ?). Accordingly, it is possible to prevent such a steering feeling as the steering wheel becomes suddenly heavy.

  • Patent number: 7342366
Abstract: The controller for a brushless motor controls motor current by executing updates of applied voltage to a coil in accordance with rotational position of a rotor, the target current, and the actual current flowing through the coil. The updates of applied voltage to the coil are executed according to the results of calculations of applied voltage to the coil in accordance with the rotational position of the rotor, the target current, and the actual current flowing through the coil, in order to generate power for rotating the rotor by varying magnetic field generated by the coil. The cycle time of the updates of applied voltage is shorter than the cycle time of the calculations of applied voltage corresponding to the rotational position of the rotor.

  • Patent number: 7337689
Abstract: A ball screw mechanism including a screw shaft with a screw groove formed on an external surface, a nut with a screw groove formed on an internal surface, and plural balls held in the grooves. A ball circulation piece is fit in a window portion in the nut and has a circulation groove for circulating the balls. The screw groove of the nut and the circulation groove are machined by moving a tool of a diameter equal to or larger than the diameter of the balls, along the screw groove of the nut so that a step is eliminated at a joint therebetween. The infeed depth of the tool is gradually changed as the tool is moved toward the joint so that boundary lines between a machined surface and a non-machined surface on flanks of the screw groove of the nut extend at an acute angle to one another.
