  • Patent number: 7394091
Abstract: There is provided composite nano-particles comprising nano-crystal particles dispersed stably and individually in suspension in high concentration without mutual aggregation of the nano-particles. A determined amount of pure water or deionized water is poured into a reactor, into which is introduced nitrogen gas at rate of 300 cm3/min for a given time while agitating with a stirrer to remove dissolved oxygen in the pure water, allowing to stand in an atmosphere of nitrogen. Next, the inside of the reactor is maintained in an atmosphere of nitrogen and sodium citrate as a dispersion-stabilizing agent, an aqueous solution of MPS as a surface-modifying agent, an anion aqueous solution for co-precipitation as a nano-crystal and a cation aqueous solution are added, in that order. Then, an aqueous solution of sodium silicate is added to the reactor, which is then allowed to stand in the dark place in an atmosphere of nitrogen after agitation.

  • Patent number: 7359673
Abstract: A UWB repeater preferably applied to a relay of stream data, which does not require frequency conversion and has less delay in relay. The UWB repeater includes a receiving antenna, a receiver, a transmitter, a transmitting antenna, and a relay controller. The relay controller is provided with a switch unit, a delay, and a transmitting/receiving timing controller. UWB pulse signals demodulated by the receiver are power-amplified by the transmitter and transmitted after being delayed by the delay unit for timing that does not overlap the receiving timing. The transmitting/receiving timing controller turns on the switch unit during the period of pulse receiving timing and enables a relay of the receiving pulses, and turns off the switch unit during the period of relaying of pulses, and can prevent sneak path signals between the transmitting side and the receiving side.

  • Patent number: 7314864
Abstract: The present invention provides polypeptides that suppresses neuronal death associated with Alzheimer's disease. Using a neuronal cell system, wherein the expression of familial Alzheimer's disease mutant APP can be induced by ecdysone treatment, a gene that protects the neurons from cell death was successfully isolated. The gene encodes a secretory polypeptide consisting of 24 amino acids, and this polypeptide suppresses neuronal death caused by the expression of APP mutants and presenilin mutants. The polypeptide also suppressed cell death of primary neuronal culture caused by A?. Furthermore, by mutating the amino acids of the polypeptide, the neuronal death suppression activity of the polypwptide was successfully and significantly enhanced. These polypeptides and derivatives thereof are useful as pharmaceuticals to prevent neuronal death associated with Alzheimer's disease, and as seed compounds for developing novel pharmaceuticals for Alzheimer's disease.

Abstract: Powdery fullerene is milled in an oxygen atmosphere, whereby mechanical impacts are applied to the fullerene and a carbon cage of the fullerene is dynamically distorted to the extent that an energy for conversion of atmospheric oxygen to a singlet excited state is accomplished from the distorted carbon cage to atmospheric oxygen. Singlet oxygen, i.e. an efficient oxidant in various industrial fields, is generated by solid-state reaction under stable conditions without necessity of photo-irradiation. The singlet oxygen also enables efficient oxidation of fullerene itself.

  • Patent number: 7289576
Abstract: The present invention provides a UWB transmitter and receiver, the transmission rate of which is increased, and the SN ratio of which is improved. By investigating the polarity of an echo at ½ position of the chip period Tc, the chip period is shortened to Tc/2 where the polarity of the echo is the same and a pulse signal of the same polarity is continued, whereby it becomes possible to increase the transmission rate. Because the echo and the pulse signal are caused to overlap each other, the SN ratio can be improved.

  • Patent number: 7289645
Abstract: A hand pattern switch device recognizes a hand pattern from an image of a hand in an image pickup zone and detects a hand motion. One of controlled objects is selected based on the recognized hand pattern and/or hand motion. In accordance with the selected object, a mode of detection of operation information based on hand motion is changed. In a moved distance detecting mode, a moved distance of the hand in the zone is detected as operation information, and in a stop time detecting mode, a stop time of the hand at a stop position to which the hand has been moved in the zone is detected as operation information. The image pickup zone is at a location which is located laterally to a steering wheel and to which a driver can extend his/her arm without changing a driving posture.
