  • Patent number: 11245200
Abstract: The suprastructure over a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) can provide for beam scanning utilizing a reconfigurable metasurface. The reconfigurable metasurface will have a plurality of PIN diode arrays that can be turned ON and OFF. In one design, the length of the reconfigurable metasurface is effectively enlarged or reduced in size to achieve beam scanning. In another design the tilt angle of the reconfigurable metasurface is adjusted to achieve beam scanning. The suprastructure also can be modified with metallic offset wings, where two or more pairs of offset wing can form a horn shaped element. The presence of the wings or horn, as well as control of the size and number of the wings can improve the gain of the SIW. These two suprastructure improvements may be used in combination, and they may be used over classical slotted SIWs or over an SIW with curved sections between consecutive slots.

  • Publication number: 20220038134
Abstract: A system and methods for transmission and non-coherent detection of data signals modulated by a plurality of overlapping chirps in a chirp spread spectrum communication system (CSS). Data signals input to an adaptive overlapping transmitter are modulated by a plurality of overlapping chirps and transmitted over a wireless communication system to a non-coherent receiver. The coherent receiver includes a chirp matched filter which matches the chirps to an internal chirp signal, a delay filter which delays each chirp, a multiplier which multiplies each delayed chirp by a next chirp, an integrator which sums the amplitudes of the chirps and decision circuitry which determines the polarity of each sum and outputs a stream of ones and zeroes representing the data signals.

  • Publication number: 20220038875
Abstract: A LoRa device for communicating sensor signals in a low power wide area network (LPWAN) includes a physical layer using Hamming encoding and Gray indexing with chirp spread signal (CSS) modulation to encode and modulate the sensor signals and a medium access layer (MAC) including a compressive sensing sub-layer which reduces encoded, modulated signals to sparse vectors. A transmission packet is formed by combining the sparse vectors with a selected set of sparse vectors representing past measurements and the incoming velocity of the sensor signals. A receiver decompresses the transmission packet by reconstructing, at a sparse recovery sub-layer of a receiver MAC layer, the encoded, modulated sensor signals. A decoder path removes the CSS modulation and Gray indexing, and Hamming decodes the sensors signals.

  • Patent number: 11239913
Abstract: A method and system for regenerating free space optical (FSO) signal pulses over free space optical (FSO) links. The FSO signal pulses are received over a first FSO link by a receiver telescope. The FSO signal pulses are split into a first part and a second part. The first part of the FSO signal pulses is converted to an electrical signal. The electrical signal is low pass filtered, amplified, and inverted to generate a negative electric voltage. The amplitude of the second part of the FSO signal pulses is attenuated by an optical absorber based on the negative electric voltage, thus regenerating the FSO signal pulses. The regenerated FSO signal pulses are amplified and bandpass filtered. The amplified and filtered regenerated FSO signal pulses are transmitted on a second FSO link.
