Abstract: An athlete tracking system and method for tracking an athlete during training sessions. The system includes a mobile tracking device wearable around a portion of the athlete's head, and a training log server for maintaining an athlete profile that includes a training record updatable by the athlete and a training plan supplied by a coach.
Abstract: A utility knife has a disposable blade cartridge in its handle that has new and used blade compartments. Fresh blades are disposed in the new blade compartment and one end of each is advanced one at a time substantially out of the compartment into operative position by a carrier that is controlled by a push button assembly. When the active blade is to be replaced, it is moved by the carrier into the used blade compartment, and a new blade may then be withdrawn from the new blade compartment into the operative position. The cartridge may be reversed when the one end of all the blades in the new blade compartment are used, placing what was the used blade compartment at the front, and the unused end of each blade may be advanced into the operative position. When all are used, a new cartridge may replace the used cartridge.
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed and include a method that includes adding a training symbol prefix to an OFDM symbol frame, the prefix including a plurality of training symbols, each including N sub-symbol fields. N/2 of the sub-symbol fields are zero valued, and N/2 of the sub-symbol fields carry corresponding symbols of a N/2 sub-symbol pseudo random training symbol. A first half of the pseudo random training symbol is symmetrical to a second half of the pseudo random training symbol. An OFDM N-sub-carrier transmission carries the prefix as signal power on a first N/2 of its N sub-carriers and suppresses signal power on a second N/2 of the sub-carriers. The first N/2 and second N/2 sub-carriers alternate in the frequency domain.
Abstract: A present invention is directed to a laminated filtration media comprising a nanofiber coating applied onto a synthetic substrate. Generally, the laminated filtration media can be produced by applying the nanofiber layer onto the synthetic substrate via an electrospinning process and then thermo-mechanically bonding the nanofiber layer onto the synthetic substrate via a thermal bonding process. The laminated filtration media exhibits superior durability and can be used in a wide array of air filtration applications.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selecting and combining items in an outbound container through the use of autonomous vehicles, each of which includes means for automatically loading and unloading a payload, to perform both transfer and transport functions in moving containers of items within a workspace via a network of roadways. Under computer control, said autonomous vehicles transfer and transport case containers of item units between incoming receiving stations, intermediate storage locations, and outgoing order-assembly stations where entire containers or individual item units are combined in the outbound container.
Abstract: A system implemented in a vehicle, the system comprises a sensing module, a zone determination module, and an intent determination module. The sensing module is configured to sense a signal from a mobile device proximate to the vehicle. The zone determination module is configured to determine locations of the mobile device in a plurality of zones around the vehicle based on the signal. A sequence of the locations indicates movement of the mobile device in the plurality of zones. The intent determination module is configured to select weights according to a set of rules to apply to successive locations in the sequence, determine an intent indicator of whether a person carrying the mobile device intends to enter the vehicle by applying the selected weights to the successive locations in the sequence, and generate an output to perform one or more operations in the vehicle based on the intent indicator.
Abstract: A mass spectrometry method comprises: generating ions; directing the ions through an ion optical component within a first chamber having a first vacuum pressure, the ion optical component maintained at a first electrical potential; transferring the ions through an ion guide within a second chamber having a second vacuum pressure less than the first vacuum pressure, the ion guide maintained at a second electrical potential, wherein a difference between the first and second potentials imparts kinetic energy that causes collision-induced ion fragmentation within the second chamber that removes adduct species; and transferring the ions into another ion guide within a third chamber having a third vacuum pressure less than the second vacuum pressure, the other ion guide maintained at a third electrical potential, wherein a difference between the third and second potentials reduces a portion of the imparted kinetic energy of the ions passing into the third chamber.

Abstract: A multi-tenant system is provided for coordinating spectrum allocation of a plurality of high-altitude networks (HANs) so that at least one high-altitude platform (HAP) in one of the plurality of HANs is controlled to avoid interfering with a HAP in at least one other HAN of the plurality of HANs. The multi-tenant system comprises a database including: 1) a first interface, 2) a second interface, 3) at least one service module, and 4) a data storage device. The multi-tenant system further comprises a communication controller coupled to the database, the communication controller configured to control various characteristics of HAPs in their respective HANs and links therebetween based on data maintained in the data storage device of the database. The data includes regulatory and coordination constraints provided via the first interface and non-regulatory and external coordination information provided via the second interface.
Abstract: A surgical severing and stapling instrument, suitable for laparoscopic and endoscopic clinical procedures, clamps tissue within an end effector of an elongate channel pivotally opposed by an anvil. An E-beam firing bar moves distally through the clamped end effector to sever tissue and to drive staples on each side of the cut. The E-beam firing bar affirmatively spaces the anvil from the elongate channel to assure properly formed closed staples, especially when an amount of tissue is clamped that is inadequate to space the end effector. In particular, an upper pin of the firing bar longitudinally moves through an anvil slot and a channel slot is captured between a lower cap and a middle pin of the firing bar to assure a minimum spacing. Forming the E-beam from a thickened distal portion and a thinned proximal strip enhances manufacturability and facilitates use in such articulating surgical instruments.

Abstract: Methods and compositions for treating bedwetting are disclosed. One method comprises administering to a subject in need thereof an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more analgesic agents.
Abstract: A method includes generating by a controller autonomous commands for the vehicle with an altered route such that the destination is maintained and the repeated segment is replaced with an alternate segment having unobserved tour content for the occupant. The generation is responsive to receiving a route having a destination of a vehicle and a repeated segment previously traversed by an occupant where tour content was presented to the occupant while the repeated segment was traversed.
Abstract: A data processing apparatus and a data processing method which enable provision of an LDPC code that achieves good error-rate performance. An LDPC encoding unit performs encoding using an LDPC code having a code length of 64800 bits and a code rate of 24/30, 25/30, 26/30, 27/30, 28/30, or 29/30. The LDPC code includes information bits and parity bits, and a parity check matrix H is composed of an information matrix portion corresponding to the information bits of the LDPC code, and a parity matrix portion corresponding to the parity bits. The information matrix portion of the parity check matrix H is represented by a parity check matrix initial value table that shows positions of elements of 1 in the information matrix portion in units of 360 columns. The apparatus and method may be applied to LDPC encoding and LDPC decoding.
Abstract: A probe includes a solid elongate body disposed along a long axis of the probe and terminating in a probe tip, and a solid planar beveled surface at or adjacent an end of the probe tip formed at a non-zero beveled angle relative to a normal of the long axis of the probe, The solid planar beveled surface is configured to impart Van der Waals attractive force to a sample surface positioned immediately adjacent the solid beveled surface of the probe so that the sample can be detached from and lifted from the bulk material and transported to a grid for investigation. Various embodiments of the beveled surface are described, including an elliptical probe tip surface beveled between 10 and 45 degrees to the normal to the probe long axis and planar surfaces formed in the sides of the probe body that are parallel to the probe long axis.
Abstract: The present invention addresses the problem of providing illumination in a manner that is energy efficient and intelligent. In particular, the present invention uses distributed processing across a network of illuminators to control the illumination for a given environment. The network controls the illumination level and pattern in response to light, sound, and motion. The network may also be trained according to uploaded software behavior modules, and subsets of the network may be organized into groups for illumination control and maintenance reporting.
