Abstract: A system and method for inferring schematic and topological properties of an electrical distribution grid is provided. The system may include Remote Hubs, Subordinate Remotes, a Substation Receiver, and an associated Computing Platform and Concentrator. At least one intelligent edge transmitter, called a Remote Hub Edge Transmitter, may transmit messages on the electrical distribution grid by injecting a modulated current into a power main that supplies an electric meter. The Subordinate Remotes, Remote Hubs, the Substation Receiver, and the associated Computing Platform and Concentrator may contain processing units which execute stored instructions allowing each node in the network to implement methods for organizing the on-grid network and transmitting and receiving messages on the network.

Abstract: In accordance with one aspect of the present disclosure, provided is a surgical heads-up display system comprising a heads-up display and an articulable arm coupled to the heads-up display. The heads-up display is configured to receive a portable electronic device and to redirect a display output of the portable electronic device. The articulable arm is configured to enable selective positioning and maintenance of the heads-up display in a selected position such that the display output of the portable electronic device is redirected in a chosen direction.
Abstract: The disclosure describes a virtual reality system, including: a database configured to store sensory information paired with at least one virtual object; a virtual reality rendering unit to render the virtual object, where the virtual reality rendering unit is configured to render a virtual representation of a user of the system; a signal control unit configured to be connected to the virtual reality rendering unit; and a sensory stimulation unit comprising one or more sensory stimulators, where the one or more sensory stimulators are configured to be connected to at least part of an actual body of the user of the system, where the signal control unit is further configured to communicate the sensory information to the sensory stimulation unit upon interaction between the virtual object and the virtual representation in the virtual reality, and where the one or more sensory stimulators are configured to stimulate the part of the user's actual body based on the sensory information.
Abstract: Transparent, impact-resistant, anti-icing coatings are disclosed. In some variations, a transparent anti-icing coating comprises: a continuous matrix of a hardened material; asymmetric templates that inhibit wetting of water, wherein the asymmetric templates have a length scale from about 10-300 nanometers; porous voids surrounding the asymmetric templates, wherein the porous voids have a length scale from about 15-500 nanometers; and nanoparticles that inhibit heterogeneous nucleation of water, wherein the nanoparticles have an average size from about 5-50 nanometers. Disclosed coatings have transparencies of 90% or higher light transmission. These coatings utilize lightweight and environmentally benign materials that can be rapidly formed into coatings. A uniform distribution of particles and asymmetric templates throughout the coating allows it to be abraded, yet retain its anti-icing function as well as transparency.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for reducing carbon buildup in an exhaust gas recirculation system of an engine of a vehicle. In one example, a method comprises injecting a diesel exhaust fluid into an intake manifold of the engine, routing the diesel exhaust fluid into the exhaust gas recirculation system, and vaporizing the diesel exhaust fluid in the exhaust gas recirculation system. In this way, any carbon deposits associated with an exhaust gas recirculation valve and/or exhaust gas recirculation passage may be reduced, which may increase fuel economy and may reduce undesired emissions.
Abstract: A multi-barrel mortar launcher with an array of barrels and a fire control mechanism, where the array is configured to fire one mortar round from each barrel with substantially the same time-on-target in an impact area having an array of blast radii corresponding to the array of barrels.

Abstract: A decoy is configured of a body portion, a neck portion and a head portion wherein a rod may be inserted in the head for connecting the decoy to a ground surface such as water or dry land. The decoy is relatively flat; however, the neck and head portions may be bent down to emulate a fowl or bird eating. A low glare coating may be applied to the painted image to reduce any reflection and/or flocking applied for reduced glare. The decoy is advantageous and useful as it is designed for effective hunting and for convenient storage and transportation due to being stackable and light weight.
Abstract: There is disclosed a portably suspended retractable shelf for storing bedside items and which includes a horizontal platform having an inner portion and an outer portion. In various embodiments, the inner portion is adapted to be slidably captured between a mattress and a mattress supporting structure. At least one of the following upward-facing compartments is disposed on the outer portion of the horizontal platform and is accessible to a user on the mattress: a collapsible basin, a hanging flexible pocket, a foldable box. The compartments are collapsible for allowing the horizontal platform to be slidably retracted under the mattress. A cutout hole is configured to hold a cup or other object in a suspended configuration through the shelf. A downward-facing sliding drawer compartment of various sizes is mounted and/or supported underneath the outer portion of the shelf. A storage container extends from a leading surface of the portable suspended retractable shelf. Other embodiments are also disclosed.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to compositions and methods for the prevention or treatment of treatment of heterotopic ossification, vascular calcification, or pathologic calcification.
Abstract: Efficient creation of a new schedule item is provided. Aspects include a quick create system for enabling an efficient schedule item creation experience when utilizing a scheduling application, such as a calendar application, a task list application, or a to-do list application, or an application with scheduling functionalities. A user can select a quick create option to cause a display of one or more icons designating predefined or learned schedule item types, which can be automatically or selectively moved to a desired timeslot in the user's schedule. In some examples, an icon can be dragged laterally within a timeslot to toggle between schedule item types. When a commitment input is received, a new schedule item is inserted into the user's schedule, and schedule item details are automatically populated into the schedule item based on existing schedule items or based on preset schedule item types.

Abstract: A system includes a processor configured to wirelessly receive a vehicle system command from a remote source over a first communication channel. The processor is also configured to open a second communication channel with an apparent command-originating source, responsive to receiving the command. The processor is further configured to request, over the second communication channel, verification that the command originated from the apparent command-originating source and execute the command responsive to command-origin verification.
Abstract: A method for modifying redundancy information associated with encoded data passing from a first node to a second node over data paths includes receiving first encoded data including first redundancy information at an intermediate node from the first node via a first channel connecting the first node and the intermediate node, the first channel having first channel characteristics and transmitting second encoded data including second redundancy information from the intermediate node to the second node via a second channel connecting the intermediate node and the second node, the second channel having second channel characteristics. A degree of redundancy associated with the second redundancy information is determined by modifying the first redundancy information based on one or both of the first channel characteristics and the second channel characteristics without decoding the first encoded data.
