Abstract: Methods and devices for long-duration electricity storage using low-cost thermal energy storage and high-efficiency power cycle, are disclosed. In some embodiments it has the potential for superior long-duration, low-cost energy storage.

Initiating the measurement tool in response to a trigger event to perform a second measurement of the kernel. Comparing the second measurement, of the kernel, to a first measurement, of the kernel, by the measurement tool to determine a comparison value. Initiating a monitoring tool, executing on the computer system, in response to the comparison value exceeding a threshold value.

Abstract: A system includes processing circuitry configured to receive sensor data regarding a user operating a head mounted display (HMD). The processing circuitry is configured to identify a plurality of reference points of a pose of the user based at least on the sensor data. The processing circuitry is configured to apply one or more models to the plurality of reference points to determine a type of the pose of the user. The processing circuitry is configured to select a mode of operation of the HMD responsive to the type of the pose.

Abstract: A method of producing advanced carbon materials can include providing coal to a processing facility, beneficiating the coal to remove impurities from the coal, processing the beneficiated coal to produce a pitch, and treating the pitch to produce an advanced carbon material such as carbon fibers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, carbon fibers, polymers, biomaterials, or other carbon materials.

Abstract: A circulation assist system measures impeller displacement for use in estimating a blood flow rate related parameter. A circulation assist system includes a blood pump and a controller. The blood pump includes an impeller magnetically supported within a blood flow channel. The blood pump includes one or more sensors configured to generate output indicative of displacement of the impeller along the blood flow channel induced by a blood-flow induced thrust load applied to the impeller. The controller is configured to process the output generated by the one or more sensors to determine the displacement of the impeller along the blood flow channel. The controller is configured to process the determined displacement of the impeller to estimate at least one of the thrust load applied to the impeller, a pressure differential of the blood impelled through the blood flow channel, and a flow rate of blood pumped by the blood pump.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a method receives a characteristic for media content. A number of entropy slots is determined that is based on the characteristic for the media content. An entropy slot in the media content is where a segment from a first version of the media content or a second version of the media content can be delivered. The method creates the first version of the media content having a first number of segments and creates the second version of the media content having a second number of segments based on the number of entropy slots. The second number of segments that correspond to the number of entropy slots is less than the first number of segments. The first version of the media content and the second version of the media content is output to create different sequences of segments that are attributable to different requests.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system comprises a distributed unit (DU) and a plurality of remote units (RUs). All of the RUs are used to serve the same cell. The system can be configured to wirelessly transmit at least some user data to a first user device using a first subset of the RUs and a first beam, where the first subset of the RUs includes less than all of the RUs otherwise used to serve the same cell. In such an embodiment, the system can be configured to determine which RUs are included in the first subset of RUs used to transmit said at least some user data to the first user device based on measurement reports made by the first user device of reference signal transmissions transmitted using multiple beams, where at least some of the reference signal transmissions are transmitted from less than all of the RUs.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a display device that includes a plurality of pixels that form an active area of the display device, the active area of the display device defining a rounded edge portion, wherein multiple pixels that form at least part of the rounded edge portion have stepped relative brightness levels determined by hardware structures of the multiple pixels, such that a first pixel of the multiple pixels that is located at a first position in the rounded edge portion has a first relative brightness level defined by a first pixel hardware structure and a second pixel of the multiple pixels that is located at a second position has a second relative brightness level defined by a second pixel hardware structure, the first relative brightness level being different from the second relative brightness level, the first pixel hardware structure being different from the second pixel hardware structure.

Abstract: Embodiments manage a lifecycle of distributed data objects from at least a first data fabric node. Embodiments receive a request from a publisher to anchor a scope. Embodiments anchor the scope to an anchor in the first data fabric node to generate an anchored scope, where the anchor includes a previously published first object and a corresponding first lifecycle and anchoring the scope includes registering interest in the first lifecycle of the anchor. Embodiments publish, by the first data fabric node, scope metadata corresponding to the anchored scope. Embodiments then receive a request from the publisher to publish a second object into the anchored scope to define an anchored object, the anchored object including the first lifecycle.

Abstract: A computer system accesses electronically stored data pertaining to a consumer's current and historical credit reports from a plurality of credit bureaus. Errors in the reports are identified by the computer system, which can then create dispute letters detailing the errors with text customized for each error. The computer processes the data to identify errors within a single report and between multiple reports, both current and historical. The errors can relate to multiple accounts on a given report duplicating the same debt with the same or differing status, and reports from different credit bureaus reporting the same debt with differing status. The status can include the debt being open or closed, and the date a status of the debt changed. The errors are presented on a display with which particular errors can be selected to be included in the report.

Abstract: A mass spectrometry method comprises: introducing a first packet of ions into an electrostatic trap mass analyzer through a set of electrostatic lenses, wherein, during the introducing of the first packet, either the lenses are operated in a first mode of operation or an injection voltage of a first pre-determined magnitude is applied to an electrode of the mass analyzer; mass analyzing the first ion packet using the mass analyzer; introducing a second packet of ions into the mass analyzer through the set of lenses, wherein, during the introducing of the second packet, either the lenses are operated in a second mode of operation or an injection voltage of a second pre-determined magnitude is applied to the electrode of the mass analyzer; and mass analyzing the second packet of ions using the electrostatic trap mass analyzer.

Abstract: A training device useful at least for exercises for bicep workouts and strengthening is configurable for multiple types of movement and use. The training device has a frame, two arm cradles attached in variable configurations, and a multi-use strap. The arm cradles are removable from the frame for re-configuration or for storage and transport. To configure the training device for compact storage and transportation, the arm cradles can be detached, nestled into the inner side of the frame, and wrapped by the strap. To attain various workout configurations, the arm cradles can be interchanged on the frame, reoriented on the frame, and adjusted to preferred lateral positions on the frame.

Abstract: A hail resistant roofing system and method includes a roofing substrate such as a shingle or tile or membrane having an array of exposed upwardly projecting features. The features may rise to sharp points and may have side surfaces that are angled relative to the plane of the roofing substrate. The features are spaced and arranged so that a large hail stone capable of damaging the roofing substrate will always impact one or more of the exposed features. This can break up the hail stone into smaller benign pieces or can redirect the energy and direction of the hail stone so that the impact is absorbed without damage to the roofing substrate.

Abstract: An augmented reality-based content authoring tool is presented. A content author arranges machine-recognizable markers in a physical environment. A computing device operating as the authoring tool recognizes the markers and their arrangement based on a captured digital representation of the physical environment. Once recognized, augmented reality primitives corresponding to the markers can be bound together via their primitive interfaces to give rise to a content set. The individual primitives and content set are instantiated based on the nature of the marker's arrangement.

Abstract: A product delivery vehicle system includes a product delivery vehicle with at least one tank compartment. The system includes an internal valve fluidly coupled to the tank compartment, a control valve, and an air system comprising a main air valve and a solenoid valve fluidly coupled to the main air valve and to the internal valve. The solenoid valve is operable to open and close the internal valve. The system includes an electronic control unit communicatively coupled to the control valve, the main air valve, and the solenoid valve. The system includes a tank tag reader operable to read a tank tag and transmit a tank tag indicator associated with the tank tag, the tank tag indicator indicative of a stored liquid type in a distribution tank. The electronic control unit may maintain the internal valve closed and the control valve locked when a product type mismatch is detected.

Abstract: A push camera apparatus comprising: (a) at least one reel configured to rotate on a base to pay out or reel in a cable, the reel having a cable input; (b) the cable having a proximate end and a distal end, the proximate end being connected to the cable input; (c) a camera connected to the distal end and configured to transmit image data through the cable to the cable input; and (d) a communication module operatively connected to the cable input and configured to rotate with the reel, and to transmit wirelessly the image data from the cable input to a wireless controller.

Abstract: Techniques are provided to recover from partial device errors of storage devices in a data storage system. A storage control system manages a storage device which comprises storage capacity that is logically partitioned into segments of equal size. The storage control system groups at least some of the segments of the storage device into a segment group. Each segment of the segment group is configured to store one or more data items and associated metadata items. The storage control system generates a parity data segment based on the segments of the segment group, and persistently stores the parity data segment in association with the segment group. In response to detecting a storage device error associated with a corrupted segment of the segment group, the storage control system utilizes the parity data segment and non-corrupted segments of the segment group to recover at least one missing data item of the corrupted segment.

Abstract: One or more aspects of the present disclosure are directed to network optimization solutions provided as software agents (applications) executed on network nodes in a heterogenous multi-vendor environment to provide cross-layer network optimization and ensure availability of network resources to meet associated Quality of Experience (QoE) and Quality of Service (QoS). In one aspect, a network slicing engine is configured to receive at least one request from at least one network endpoint for access to the heterogeneous multi-vendor network for data transmission; receive information on state of operation of a plurality of communication links between the plurality of nodes; determine a set of data transmission routes for the request; assign a network slice for serving the request; determine, from the set of data transmission routes, an end-to-end route for the network slice; and send network traffic associated with the request using the network slice and over the end-to-end route.

Abstract: A method for emulating a disc swap operation during a play of a legacy game is described. The method includes receiving a user input during the play of the legacy game, determining that the disc swap operation is to be executed based on the user input, and identifying one or more emulated processing unit (PU) code instructions that are included within the disc swap operation during the play of the legacy game. The method further includes compiling, during the play of the legacy game, one or more basic blocks from the one or more emulated PU code instructions, and emulating the disc swap operation. The operation of emulating the disc swap operation includes executing a swap patch emulator.
