Abstract: A liquid reservoir component of an electronic vaping device includes an outer casing extending in a longitudinal direction, an air inlet, and a vapor outlet. An inner tube is within the outer casing defining a central air passage communicates with the inlet and the outlet. A liquid reservoir is in an annular space between the outer casing and the inner tube. A susceptor is adjacent the central air passage, and a wick is in communication with the liquid reservoir and in thermal communication with the susceptor such that the susceptor is operable to heat the liquid material to a temperature to vaporize the liquid material and form a vapor in the central air passage. The liquid reservoir component is configured to connect with a power supply component such that an induction source is operable to generate an inductive field to heat the susceptor when powered by the power source.

Abstract: An interventional ostium occlusion catheter includes a catheter tube with at least one port at a first end, a tip at a second end, and a central lumen, with a positioning component and an occlusion component on the surface of the catheter tube close to the tip. A method of coronary intervention using the catheter includes maneuvering the catheter to an ostium; inserting the catheter into a coronary vessel; activating the positioning component and the occlusion component; and delivering an infusion via the lumen. An interventional system for improving management of ischemic cardiac tissue during acute coronary syndromes includes the catheter; a blood infusion device that delivers controlled reperfusate; and a ventricular unloading device that manipulates myocardial oxygen demand in a coronary chamber. The operator can mitigate reperfusion-related and oxygen-related tissue injury by precisely modulating oxygen re-exposure when re-establishing flow and when using a ventricular unloading device.

Abstract: A system for mitigating thermal runaway in a battery-powered electric vehicle (EV). The system includes a gas sensor configured to measure a level of at least one type of gas in a vicinity of a battery of the EV, a thermal event detector configured to determine, based on the measured level of the at least one type of gas, that the battery is experiencing out-gassing, and a communications interface configured to transmit an alert to a fleet management system regarding the out-gassing of the battery. The fleet management system alters an assignment of the EV in response to the out-gassing of the battery.

Abstract: A system and method for performing visual localization is disclosed. In aspects, the system implements methods to generate a global point cloud, the global point cloud representing a plurality of point clouds. The global point cloud can be mapped to a prior map information to locate a position of an autonomous vehicle, the prior map information representing pre-built geographic maps. The position of the autonomous vehicle can be estimated based on applying sensor information obtained from sensors and software of the autonomous vehicle to the mapped global point cloud.

Abstract: Methods and systems are described for verifying an identity of a user through contextual knowledge-based authentication. The system described uses contextual knowledge-based authentication. By verifying an identity of a user through contextual knowledge-based authentication, the verification is both more secure and more intuitive to the user. For example, by relying on confidential and/or proprietary information, the system may generate verification questions, the answers to which are known only by the user.

Abstract: A method for execution by a computing entity includes interpreting a magnetic response from a set of magnetic field sensors to produce a piston velocity and a piston position of a piston associated with a head unit device. The head unit device includes a chamber filled with a shear thickening fluid (STF) that includes a multitude of magnetic nanoparticles. The method further includes determining a shear force based on the piston velocity and the piston position. The method further includes determining a desired response for the STF based on the shear force, the piston velocity, and the piston position. The method further includes generating a magnetic activation based on the desired response for the STF and outputting the magnetic activation to a set of magnetic field emitters positioned proximal to the chamber.

Abstract: Disclosed here is a method of fabricating a covalently reinforced carbon nanotube (CNT) assembly. The method includes producing a CNT assembly by pulling entangled CNTs from a CNT array fabricated on a substrate, the CNT assembly including a plurality of CNTs that are aligned; and creating covalent bonding between the CNTs of the CNT assembly by applying a high energy ion irradiation to the CNT assembly.

Abstract: A technique for actuating a robotic apparatus is disclosed. In one particular embodiment, the technique may be realized as an apparatus for providing controlled movement of a robotic appendage, comprising a digit, wherein the digit comprises a first joint and a second joint, and an actuator configured to control a degree of freedom of the digit. The actuator causes the first joint to bend at a first rate from a first position to a second position and the second joint to bend at a second rate from a third position to a fourth position. The first rate is faster than the second rate.

Abstract: A computer that performs authentication is described. During operation, the computer may receive an authentication request associated with an individual playing a video game. In response to the authentication request, the computer may obtain game information associated with current play of the video game by the individual and second game information associated with one or more prior instances of the individual playing the video game. Then, the computer may determine the authentication of the individual based at least in part on the game information and the second game information. Next, the computer may selectively allow the individual to continue to play the video game based at least in part on the authentication.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for video data processing. In some examples, an apparatus for video data processing includes processing circuitry. For example, the processing circuitry determines a first syntax element for coding control in a first scope of coded video data in a bitstream. The first syntax element is associated with a coding tool of persistent Rice adaptation defined in a range extension of a video standard for a statistics based Rice parameter derivation in a residual coding. In response to the first syntax element being a first value indicative of disabling of the coding tool in the first scope, the processing circuitry decodes the first scope of coded video data that includes one or more second scopes of coded video data without invoking the coding tool.
