Abstract: Described embodiments provide systems and methods for adapting/negotiating media information. A first device may determine a channel quality of a wireless channel in an unlicensed spectrum between the first device and a first tethered device. The first device may determine a first bit rate supportable on the wireless channel according to the channel quality. The first device may send, to the second device, an offer message with an offered bit rate comprising a lower of the first bit rate or a second bit rate supportable by a connection between the first device and the second device at least partially across a licensed spectrum. The first device may receive, from the second device, a reply message with a reply bit rate that is less than or equal to the offered bit rate, to apply to wireless communication across at least the first tethered device, the first device and the second device.

Oxidative synthesis of amine-functionalized saccharide polymers using sodium hypochlorite pentahydrate as an oxidation reagent may afford a different distribution and type of sites of oxidative opening as compared to other types of oxidation reagents. Amine-functionalized saccharide polymers may be prepared by exposing a saccharide polymer comprising a trans-vicinal diol to an oxidation reagent comprising sodium hypochlorite pentahydrate, reacting the trans-vicinal diol to form a site of oxidative opening bearing at least one aldehyde, exposing the at least one aldehyde to an amine to form an imine intermediate at the site of oxidative opening, and reducing the imine intermediate into a secondary or tertiary amine at the site of oxidative opening.

Abstract: Described is a novel process for disaggregating biomass pyrolysis oil quantitatively into energy dense hydrophobic aromatic fraction (HAF), fermentable pyrolytic sugars and phenolics based products in a highly economical and energy efficient manner. Phase separation of the esterified pyrolysis oil after an oxidative pre-treatment and the quantitative recovery of the separate fractions is described. Phase separation uses batch as well as continuous reactor systems. The resulting HAF is an energy dense, thermally stable, water free, non-corrosive to carbon steel, and is a free flowing liquid suitable for combustion and for upgrading to transportation fuels. Pyrolytic sugars which are mainly anhydrosugars can be further converted by fermentation to ethanol or other products. Monomeric phenols are useful industrial intermediates and the organic acids in the original pyrolysis oil are mainly recovered as esters of the separation solvents.
