Abstract: A gas favoring boattail projectile has a body, a nose extending from the body as an ogive, a tip upon the nose, a meplat of the tip, a frustum outwardly of the body and opposite the nose, and a base opposite the tip. The frustum also appears as a boattail and the body appears as a cylinder. The projectile has a caliber denoting its widest diameter and serving as the basis for additional dimensions measured from it. The meplat has a proportional relationship to the boattail and the boattail has an angular relationship to the surface of the cylinder. The relationships of specific features of the invention optimize its accuracy on target while remaining within weight and other specified parameters.

  • Publication number: 20210364018
Abstract: Fluid flow enhancing devices disclosed herein are adapted to enhance flow of fluid through subsurface watershed conduits, for example, culverts, drainpipe and the like. Such fluid flow enhancing devices advantageously enhance watershed runoff functionality in subsurface watershed conduits by altering watershed flow from a parabolic flow pattern to a rotational flow pattern while still accommodating fish passage requirements. This change in flow pattern beneficially provides turbulence that disrupts and flushes debris out of the subsurface watershed conduits. This disruption and flushing establishes a passive cleaning functionality within the subsurface watershed conduits that serves to clean the subsurface watershed conduits after suitable upstream water delivery event (e.g., heavy rain, controlled water release, etc.).

  • Publication number: 20210366176
Abstract: The present concepts relate to shadow culling when rendering a 3D computer graphics virtual world. A depth buffer may be rendered from the perspective of a camera, and the depth buffer can be used to generate a hit map, which can be used to determine which objects in the world will need shadow tests. When shadow maps are generated by rendering multiple cascades from the perspective of a light, rather than including all objects in a particular cascade into the shadow map, the pixels in the hit map corresponding to an object are checked to determine whether a shadow test will be needed for the object. If the object will not contribute to the main scene, then the object is excluded from the shadow map, thus saving GPU processing resources.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for allocating computing resources. In one aspect, a method includes receiving intent data specifying one or more computing services to be hosted by a computing network, requested characteristics of computing resources for use in hosting the computing service, and a priority value for each requested characteristic. A budget constraint is identified for each computing service. Available resources data is identified that specifies a set of available computing resources. A resource allocation problem for allocating computing resources for the one or more computing resources is generated based on the intent data, each budget constraint, and the available resources data. At least a portion of the set of computing resources is allocated for the one or more computing services based on results of evaluating the resource allocation problem to meet a particular resource allocation objective.

Abstract: A rotary engine that starts and operates on compression-ignition of a heavy fuel without a secondary ignition source. The rotary engine includes a rotor housing that forms an epitrochoidal-shaped chamber having linear side portions extending between rounded end portions. A three-flanked rotor is disposed in the chamber to rotate and operate in a manner similar to that of a common Wankel-style rotary engine. The rotor and chamber are configured to provide a compression ratio sufficient to produce compression-ignition of a heavy fuel. The rotor includes apex seal and side seal mounting blocks formed from hardened materials and that are simply removable from the rotor for replacing apex and side seals. The apex seals may include multiple non-parallel seal members at each apex and the apex seals and the side seals may overlap or intersect a corner seal to increase sealing under high compression loads produced by the rotor/chamber configuration.
