Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for improving frame selection in wireless communications networks. During decoding of a frame, a base station generates an error burst representation associated with error bursts and stores the representation within the frame, thus forming an enhanced frame. The base station then transfers the enhanced frame to a network controller. A frame selection unit (“FSU”) within the network controller thereafter applies frame selection to the enhanced frame. The error burst representation can be analyzed to determine the quality of the enhanced frame. A “combined” frame, generated by combining an “acceptable” portion of the enhanced frame and an acceptable portion of a copy of the enhanced frame, can then be generated to substantially eliminate errors. The present frame selection methods and systems enable superior quality frames to be passed on to higher layers in a network's communications protocol (hereafter collectively referred to as “network”).

Abstract: A method is provided of transmitting signals from two or more antennas in a wireless telecommunications network, in which at least one data sequence is space-time block encoded. Before transmitting the data sequence, a linear transformation is applied to the data sequence, the linear transformation being adapted to use knowledge of correlation among the antennas to at least partially compensate the transmitted signals for said correlation. The linear transformation depends on the eigenvalues of an antenna correlation matrix. The linear transformation further depends on a ratio of symbol energy (ES) to noise variance (?2). The method includes transmitting the encoded and transformed data sequence.

Abstract: A method for receiving and transmitting signals in a cellular radio network. The method comprising receiving a plurality of radio signals at different frequencies using a single radio receiver at the base station, scanning the incoming signals and saving the signals to a buffer with a first processor, reading, processing and time-multiplexing the buffered signals with a second processor, transmitting the time-multiplexed radio signal via a single physical link to a mobile switching center, demultiplexing the time-multiplexed radio signal into independent radio signals corresponding to the incoming signals at the mobile switching center with a third processor;, processing the independent radio signals with the third processor; and routing the independent radio signals to the proper end users.
Abstract: In a virtual network computing (VNC) system wherein multiple users, or viewers, at different locations share a common desktop computer for the purpose of sharing control of software applications, the VNCSESSION owner exercises dynamic Internet protocol (IP)-based control over access of the viewers to the server associated with the shared desktop. The VNCSESSION owner is defined as the user who initiates the server and the first viewer to connect to the desktop. The session owner is given full access to the desktop, i.e., active access permitting the viewer to exercise control over the application. For the remaining connected viewers, only VNCVIEWERS having their IP address present in a VNC security file containing authorized IP addresses can initiate activity on the desktop, or exercise control over the application. All other connected viewers may only review desktop activity initiated by other viewers, but cannot initiate such activity themselves, i.e., cannot exercise control over the application.

Abstract: A membrane receives an incident energy signal at a first surface of the membrane. An actuating electrode, located adjacent to the membrane on a side opposite the first surface, applies an actuating pressure to the membrane if an actuating potential is applied between the actuating electrode and the membrane. A restoring electrode, located adjacent to the first surface of the membrane, applies a restoring pressure to the membrane if a restoring potential is applied between the restoring electrode and the membrane. The restoring electrode has an outer surface defining an aperture that enables the incident energy signal to pass, for example, without significant obstruction and without significant attenuation, through the restoring electrode to impinge upon the membrane, and the length of the restoring electrode is at least as great as the smallest width of the aperture.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a rotatable element includes a plate, a plate support, a cradle, and a cradle support. The plate is coupled to the cradle via the plate support. The cradle is coupled to a surrounding frame by the cradle support. The plate and cradle are suspended over a cavity so that, in conjunction with the plate support and the cradle support, both the plate and cradle are capable of freely rotating about different axes of rotation when suitably actuated. Since the plate is capable of rotating independently of the cradle, yet also rotates when the cradle is rotated, the plate is rotatable about two axes of rotation. In some cases, the axis of rotation of the plate is perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the cradle. Since the cradle does not surround the plate, the plates of adjacent rotatable elements can be placed very close to one another (i.e., as close as about 1 micron) to provide, for example, an array of very-closely-spaced mirrors.
Abstract: A method for providing selective mid-call call forwarding from a mobile station associated with a subscriber to a wireless service provider is provided. Abstract: A system and method that provides economical and accurate data for a selected area (jurisdiction) from a centralized location by generating a base-line map from commercially available information and distributing portions of this map to local jurisdictions. Inaccuracies and other information only available locally are stored in a local database. Periodically these databases are uploaded to a central location and reconciled with the base line map. Advantageously, such reconciliation may include a rules based reconciliation wherein the geo-coordinates from the commercial vendors are used and applied to the local data. A new base line map is then generated and distributed back to the local user. In this manner, the local user has an accurate yet economical map.

Abstract: A plurality of local network groups of computers (102) are coupled together by a network (104). Independent processing systems that execute a single operating system are coupled together by a network (220) to form the local network groups. The independent processing systems may have more than one CPU (202). One or more of the independent processing systems may share power, cooling and a housing, thereby forming a common fault processor group (200). An application is written to execute across multiple independent processing systems and common fault processor groups. That is, the application runs in many instances that each run on independent processing systems. The multiple instances of the application provide some measure of high availability by using N+K sparing or the like. The application is for example, call processing or radio control. A processor notification list (304) keeps track of the independent processing systems that cooperatively provide an application.
