  • Patent number: 5873402
Abstract: A process of making a casing having at least one open end and formed with electric conducting passages and connections for electronic components or switching circuits, includes the following steps: preparing a formed body, made of ceramics, glass, glass-ceramics, metal or silicon carbide, with passageways in form of bores and/or indentations, placing the formed body in a mold and pouring liquid metal in the mold to surround the formed body, thereby filling the first passageways, and removing metal from the formed body to leave metal only in the first passageways.

  • Patent number: 5873457
Abstract: In the present invention, the watch is mounted in a conventional hollow collar which is in turn positioned in a display box. A slit in the display box allows a securing member to be slipped through the box and the watch collar. The securing member is locked to the wall of the box on the other side of the watch collar by an anti-theft locking means. The end of the securing member has a pin which is inserted into the locking means and is held in place until released by a release mechanism, such as by a magnet. Such a release mechanism, opens the locking means and allows the securing member to be withdrawn. The end of the securing member opposite the pin, projects out of the box both to form a handle to aid in the removal of the securing member and as a visual indicator that the securing device remains inserted in the watch box.

  • Patent number: 5873965
Abstract: In a process and a device for carrying out a welding process on thermoplastic material webs, the value of the pressing force (F.sub.i) of a pair of pressure rollers is determined as a measured value representing the weld seam thickness and is used as the actual value of the controlled variable of a welding process regulating unit, and it is compared with a corresponding set value. The feed speed (V) of the welding device is used as the correcting variable of this regulating unit by increasing the speed in the case of decreasing weld seam thickness and decreasing the speed in the case of increasing weld seam thickness to compensate a possibly existing deviation.

  • Patent number: 5871846
Abstract: An effective production method for silane-treated clays having exceptional reinforcing effects with respect to rubber, and compositions using these silane-treated clays are offered. With the silane-treated clay production method, a functional silane is predispersed or emulsified in water by means of a surfactant in order to mix the functional silane with kaolin clay and thereby uniformly surface-treat the kaolin clay with the functional silane. The surfactant should preferably be a non-ionic surfactant with an HLB value in the range of 8-18. The silane-treated clay formed by surface-treating kaolin clay by means of these functional silanes characteristically contains low residual levels of the non-ionic surfactants. The functional silanes can be either vinyl or sulfur functional silanes. The silane treated clays are useful as fillers or extenders in rubber compositions, particularly those employing silicas and/or carbon blacks.

  • Patent number: 5871079
Abstract: For the formation of groups of products to be fed orderly at predetermined intervals to a processing machine an equipment includes a first conveyor, a second conveyor positioned on the inlet of the processing machine and having pockets for housing the products arranged at predetermined intervals, a transfer device having clamping units which are mobile in phase relation with the conveyors for removing the products from the first conveyor and transferring them into respective pockets of the second conveyor and positioning them in groups, under the action of controls arranged to control the differentiated release of at least two products into each pocket of the second conveyor, these two products being in shifted positions one with respect to the other, enabling these products to be reached in sequence respectively by a corresponding clamping unit of an even position and by a clamping unit of an uneven position, until a respective group of products is completed.

  • Patent number: 5871489
Abstract: A surgical implement particularly useful for implanting a prosthetic valve in an excised annulus includes a manually grippable handle, and a suture retainer carried by the handle and having an outer face carrying a coiled spring whose coils define an annular array of slits each having opposed yielding surfaces for receiving and releasably retaining sutures between selected coils. Optimum spacing of the sutures according to the shape of the excised annulus is attained by providing reference ribs between selected coils of the spring, and also by making the outer annular face of the suture retainer of substantially the same shape as that of the excised annulus. Implements are described, with a suture retainer and without a suture retainer, including an illuminating device for artificially illuminating the working area. Also described is a method of implanting a prosthetic valve in a quick and efficient manner using such implements.

  • Patent number: 5871700
Abstract: A holding device for liquids comprises a container open at one end and formed of a light-tight wall which is sealed at an opposite end, and an outer housing open at one end and formed of a gas-tight wall. The container is inserted coaxially in the outer housing, with a substantial portion of the outer surface of the container wall contacting the inner surface of the housing wall without play whereby the container is held in the outer housing by a press fit. The outer surface of the container wall defines at least one continuous groove extending from the sealed ends of the container and outer housing walls to the open container and outer housing walls.

  • Patent number: 5870880
Abstract: Filter bags containing a substance from which to prepare an infusion are fashioned from tubular blanks of filter paper having an elongated appearance, each one filled with measured and separate quantities of the substance distributed along its length, which are doubled up and made secure, then provided with a label attached by a length of thread. A machine for automating the manufacture of such bags includes a wheel carrying grippers with radial arms, around which the thread is drawn peripherally as the grippers are indexed in turn through a station where the blank is folded double initially, a forming station at which the two joined ends are folded together to effect a closure, a cutting station at which the thread is divided into single lengths, a feed station supplying the labels, and a fastening station at which the length of thread is knotted both to the label and to the closure.

  • Patent number: 5870001
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for calibrating a device responsive to values of a reference signal. The reference signal may be subject to short-term disturbances. In one implementation, a cellular radio base station utilizes a Stratum-2 oscillator to which to phase-lock a base station VCO. Compensation is made for the aging of the Stratum-2 oscillator, thereby to provide a regulation signal causing the VCO to exhibit acceptable short-term and long-term frequency stability characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5870565
Abstract: A telecommunications management network (TMN) is directly connected for operation and maintenance data message exchange to a common channel signaling network. The direct connection to the telecommunications management network is made through a gateway one of a plurality of signal transfer points included within the telecommunications network. Addressing and format conversions are effectuated between the transmission control protocol/internet protocol (TCP/IP) used for the telecommunications management network operation and maintenance messages and the common channel signaling--signaling system no. 7 messages. The telecommunications management network and each of the network element nodes are accordingly assigned both an internet protocol address and a signaling system no. 7 (SS7) address. Static tables maintained in certain ones of the signal transfer points map internet protocol addresses and signaling system no. 7 (SS7) address against each other for message routing.
