  • Patent number: 5866054
Abstract: A new and useful a plastic article, particularly plastic siding, with an accent color pattern incorporated therein, a specially formed accent color pellet which is useful in manufacturing such an article, and a process for producing the article using the pellets are provided. The process contemplates extruding a plastic product from a base material formed of powder-sized particles and specially formed accent color pellets. The accent color pellets are alloyed masses of resins and pigment which are larger than the powder particles of the base material, and have a higher vicat softening point temperature than the base material. The alloyed pellets are designed to melt controllably and to mix controllably with the base material.

  • Patent number: 5865898
Abstract: The invention is directed to methods for the pretreatment of a lignocellulose-containing biomass. Pretreatment comprises the addition of calcium hydroxide and water to the biomass to form a mixture, and subjecting the mixture to relatively high temperatures for a period of time sufficient to render the biomass amenable to digestion. The pretreated biomass is digested to produce useful products such as feedstocks, fuels, and compounds including fatty acids, sugars, ketones and alcohols. Alternatively, the pretreatment process includes the addition of an oxidizing agent, selected from the group consisting of oxygen and oxygen-containing gasses, to the mixture under pressure. The invention is also directed to a method for the recovery of calcium from the pretreated biomass.

  • Patent number: 5865535
Abstract: A simple and efficient process and automated system is provided for controlling the mixing of polymeric material and additive materials in an internal mixer to provide quality products and batch to batch product uniformity. Real time mixing temperature profiles of a plurality of good quality batches of the same product are developed. The profiles are then superimposed or averaged to produce a real time temperature curve with maximum and minimum temperature tolerance limits, thus providing a range of batch temperatures that are allowable in real time during the mixing cycle. A process control system is programmed to store the range of allowable temperatures and to signal a mixer control to change at least one of the rotor speed and the ram pressure when the real time batch temperature falls outside the reference temperature range for a predetermined period of time.

  • Patent number: 5862646
Abstract: A device for transferring blister packs comprises an intermediate station situated between a working station (3) and a packaging line. The intermediate station includes a clamp for receiving and holding at least one blister pack. First and second groups of suction cups are driven by a two-arm mechanism situated in the intermediate station. In a first position, the first group of suction cups is placed in the working station for picking up one blister pack while the second group of suction cups is over the intermediate station for picking up another blister pack temporarily held by the clamp. In a second position, the first group of suction cups is located over the intermediate station, to release the blister pack previously picked up, that is received and held by the clamp, while the second group of suction cups is over the packaging line to deliver the blister pack previously picked up.

  • Patent number: 5864491
Abstract: A pseudo-random number generator, and an associated method, generates a pseudo-random number. The pseudo-random number is a complex, linear combination of values of input sequences provided to the generator and exhibits little correlation with such input values. The generator includes a summation combiner and an IIR (infinite impulse response) filter connected in a feedback connection with the summation combiner. Because of the low correlation of the pseudo-random number and input values provided to the generator, the pseudo-random number is less susceptible to cryptanalysis by an unauthorized party.
