Abstract: The invention concerns a process for increasing the purification yield in the activation tank of a station for the purification of waste waters employing the so-called "activated sludge" process. According to the invention, talc, pyrophyllite, kaolin or mica, possibly cationized, are added to the biomass, these having a particle size less than 100 .mu.m in quantities of up to 2.0 g per liter of waste waters. A great improvement in solid/liquid separation is observed at the outlet from the activation tank as well as an increase in the purification yield for carbonaceous pollution, nitrogenous pollution and phosphate-containing pollution even when the station operates at medium or high load.
Abstract: A modular building panel comprising a single, monolithic, planar slab having a thickness and parallel inner and outer surfaces, the slab being formed primarily of cellular concrete and a pair of parallel linear members. Each of the linear members has outer and inner opposed parallel edges, a web connecting the edges, and an outer flange at the outer edge extending substantially perpendicular to the web. The slab extends between the webs of the outer side linear members, the outer edges and the outer flanges being embedded in the slab inwardly of its inner surface, and the outer surface of the slab being uninterrupted. The panel can additionally include at least one inner linear member intermediate and parallel to the outer side linear members.
Abstract: Epoxide-amine dendrimers synthesized by a repetitive and step-wise addition reaction of epoxides comprising functional moieties which are available for conversion into amino groups followed by a reaction of these groups to primary amino moieties. The amino terminated dendrimers are reacted with (2,3-epoxypropoxy) methacrylate, a monoepoxide and/or a monoisocyante. The methacrylate terminated dendrimers are polymerizable using redox initiators and/or photoinitiators. The resulting dendrimers show a very low volume shrinkage from that of the starting materials, on the order of less than about 5 percent by volume.
Abstract: Two laterally spaced hinges (18, 20) each comprising a pair of pivotally connected brackets (22, 24) (74, 74') one bracket being connected to the hood (10) (10') or deck lid and the other to the edge of the vehicle opening. A pair of links (42, 44) (82, 84) pivotally connected together at one end extend between the brackets of each hinge. Each pair of links is pivotally connected at opposite ends to the associated brackets and in a first embodiment arranged such that the links of one pair (42) fold and unfold in opposite directions from the links of the other pair (44) when the hinges are swung during opening or closing of the hood or deck lid. In a second embodiment, the two pairs of links (82, 84) fold in the same direction. A torsion rod (36) (104) extends between the hinges and is connected at opposite ends to the links of each pair, such that upon closing the deck lid or hood, the links twist the torsion rod at its ends in opposite directions to tension it.
Abstract: A signalling system adapted for digital signals includes a signal transmitter, a signal receiver and a connection which connects the transmitter to the receiver. The transmitter includes an output buffer which has at least one transistor connected to the lowest level of a signal supply voltage, such as to "0" potential or earth potential. Driving or steering of the transistor in response to a received control signal causes the transistor to switch from a state of high impedance to a state of low impedance which exhibits resistive or at least predominantly resistive properties, such as to form an information-carrying output signal. A first of two series-connected transistors is connected to the lowest level of the signal supply voltage, for instance "0" or earth potential, and the other transistor is connected to the signal supply voltage. A connection conductor on which the information-carrying signal is transmitted is connected between the transistors.
Abstract: A method of processing plastic material, wherein the plastic material is pressure-lessly distributed over the lower mold half of a mold divided in a horizontal plane, then the mold is closed and the mold cavity is entirely filled with molten material whereupon a fluid is injected into the molten material and a portion of the molten material is displaced into a secondary cavity by the fluid.
Abstract: A pressure plate facing fabric is secured to the pressure plate of a bagel forming machine. The fabric is positioned to form an acute angle with the circulating belt of the machine to avoid build-up of dough at the feed-in end of the machine.
Abstract: The stator, rotor and/or flex shaft of a progressive cavity pump is made up of composite materials, e.g., fiberglass and resin, in a variety of combinations with and without bonded resilient elastomers. The composites are formulated to provide resiliency and non-resiliency where needed. The flex shaft between the rotary power source and the rotor is made of composite materials and designed to absorb the orbital and gyrational movement of the rotor.
Abstract: The invention relates to a sequin delivery system (1) for embroidery and/or sewing machines, in which a pusher (6) delivers sequins (3) from a sequin strip (2), which is at least partly guided laterally, in increments to a needle penetration point (24). A drive mechanism periodically moves the pusher (6) toward and away from the needle penetration point (24), and the pusher (6) has a slaving device, which on the motion of the pusher (6) in the direction of the needle penetration point (24) engages a hole (4) in a sequin (3). The pusher (6) is at least partially elastic, and in particular is a leaf spring, and presses the sequin strip (2) against a contact pressure plate (8).
Abstract: An integrated distillation column having a partitioned stripping or absorption section is presented. The integrated stripping/distillation column comprises a single shell housing a refluxed absorption section and a reboiled stripping section. The stripping section is partitioned by a vertical wall into first and second separate portions having upper end in fluid communication the absorption section. The stripping portions include fluid isolated lower ends having separate reboilers. In the integrated absorption/distillation column, the absorption section is partitioned and separate reflux loops are provided for each portion of the absorption section. In such a manner, a two column distillation process can be combined into one for achieving space and equipment savings.
Abstract: An exhaust nozzle mixer for a turbojet engine is disclosed having a multi-lobed shroud extending from the exhaust nozzle of the turbojet engine, the shroud having a plurality of radially oriented lobes forming a plurality of gas mixing channels, each having a first cross-section in a plane extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the engine, as well as a flared lobe having a greater circumferential width than the remainder of the lobes to accommodate the engine mounting pylon. A baffle member extends radially inwardly from the mounting pylon toward the longitudinal axis of the engine such that the baffle extends into the flared lobe to form a plurality of cross-sections, each of such cross-sections being generally equal to each of remainder of the cross-sections of the multi-lobed shroud.

Abstract: A motor vehicle steering wheel comprising a plastic material body overmoulded on a framework and formed with at least one lateral seat housing a switch controlling a horn. The lateral seat of the body is delimited by a resiliently deformable integral front member which is part of the body, forming the operating press member of the switch. The switch is comprised of two normally spaced apart plates having a resilient element therebetween. The resilient element may be of integral one piece construction with the membrane and extend through an aperture in the adjacent plate.
Abstract: A method of farming comprises collecting waste material such as manure from animal farming, or effluent from food processing plants or the like in a closed container, stirring and aerating the material within the container and adding yeast and phosphoric acid to increase aerobic bacterial activity while reducing anaerobic bacteria and rendering the material into a pumpable liquid. The material is then spread across the ground by a spreading action by pumping the material through a pipe carried on the reel of a vehicle having a boom of the order of 100 feet in width so that the material is sprayed onto the ground in an even spreading action at a rate of the order of 1000 to 5000 gallons per acre. Simultaneously an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide is sprayed onto the material, preferably immediately before the material.
Abstract: Tubular wrappings, formed from a sheet with superimposed longitudinal lateral portions and made of partly metal and partly heat-sealable material, are sealed longitudinally by successively feeding the wrappings, by means of a conveyor, in a first given direction and along a given path through a sealing station; by varying the traveling speed of the wrappings in relation to the conveyor so as to successively impart to the wrappings a pause at the sealing station; and by induction heating, for an adjustable length of time during the relative pause, the metal part of the sheet of each wrapping along the relative superimposed longitudinal lateral portions, to melt the heat-sealable part of the sheet.
