  • Patent number: 5756537
Abstract: This invention provides for novel dose regimen of paclitaxel to treat Kaposi's sarcoma. Unlike current paclitaxel therapy protocols, the claimed dosages are lower yet surprisingly as effective in regression of KS tumors. In addition, the lower doses are accompanied with fewer incidents of undesired side effects. The effectiveness of low doses of paclitaxel as well as fewer and less debilitating side effects, makes this therapy protocol the first that can be used for long term and as maintenance therapy in the management of patients with Kaposi's sarcoma.

  • Patent number: 5754537
Abstract: A method and system for transmitting background noise information on a packet reservation multiple access radio channel. In the method and system, relative priorities are assigned to background noise data transmissions and speech data, or other data traffic, transmissions. • Patent number: 5752204
Abstract: An antenna assembly, and an associated method, facilitates communication of a radiotelephone operable in a satellite communication system, such as a satellite-cellular communication system. A patch antenna is rotatably coupled to a radiotelephonic housing of the radiotelephone. The patch antenna exhibits circular polarization characteristics, best to detect and to transmit communication signals to a satellite-based transceiver. By positioning patch antennas at opposing sides of the radiotelephone, down-link signals transmitted to the radiotelephone are detectable irrespective of the orientation of the radiotelephone.

  • Patent number: 5750966
Abstract: A plant for pasteurizing or sterilising solid or liquid food products subjects the previously packaged products to heat treatment using microwaves in a pressurized chamber, in order to guarantee its conservation for long periods of time. At least three phases of operation include a rapid heating phase of the products, up to a temperature which is slightly lower than the pasteurizing or sterilising temperature; and a temperature equalising phase, and a cooling phase. The pressure inside the pressurised chamber, during the phases varies as a function of the temperature reached by the products. The plant includes a number of tubular elements (2, 3, 4; 11, 12, 13, 14), each of which consists of a number of sections (2a, 3a, 4a; 11a, 12a, 13a, 14a) cylindrical in shape and of a small diameter, each tubular element having devices for inserting and removing from it the products to be treated and for varying the ambient pressure inside it, as function of the temperature reached by the products.

  • Patent number: 5749400
Abstract: A combination of rigid, non-elastic wefts with other wefts which are elastic and much thinner allows the creation of a figured, elastic fabric. The floats of the elastic wefts may be stretched between points of bindings. It is the density of the elastic threads along with the length of the elastic weft floats which determines the fabric's elasticity. This ratio is retained throughout the width of the material. Once the weaving process is completed, the fabric undergoes a process which takes place in a tenter subject to temperatures in excess of 100.degree. C., saturated in wet steam. This process acts on the elastic wefts, increasing their elasticity by 100%.

  • Patent number: 5746659
Abstract: A flange driver for a cardan joint with a spider comprised of two pins mutually offset by 90.degree. and two essentially same-design yoke halves. Each yoke half includes a base and a bearing part with a bore contained in it. Both yoke halves abutt along an interface which is essentially perpendicular to the axis of a first spider pin supported by the yoke. Both yoke halves feature a system for torque transmission from the shaft adjoining the joint to the flange driver and to the spider or in reverse order. Both yoke halves of the flange driver are joined to each other positively. Each yoke half features on its interface a toothing directed toward the respective complementary interface. The flank lines of the toothing or a plurality of tangents to the flank lines, projected in a common plane with the yoke axis, extend at an angle greater than 0.degree. to smaller than 180.degree. relative to the yoke axis.

  • Patent number: 5746858
Abstract: A trim strip of "T" shaped cross-section having an appendage on the stem. The appendage extends outwardly and downwardly in cross-section away from the top of the "T". The purpose of the appendage is to clear old adhesive debris and any new adhesive from the clearance space between the windshield and the car body. The trim strip is retained in place by adhesive strips applied to one or both undersides of the top of the "T" which grip the windshield or car body or both. The "T" trim strip with the downwardly canted appendage is specifically directed to the aftermarket windshield replacement market but may be used in original equipment installations.

  • Patent number: 5746323
Abstract: A conveying system for tablet inspection is provided. The conveying system includes a hopper assembly for feeding tablets to a conveyor at a controlled rate. The conveyor includes a pair of conveyor belts surrounding a plenum that communicates with a vacuum pump. The conveyor belts are parallel to one another and are spaced a distance for efficiently supporting a tablet thereon. An uprighter is disposed between the hopper assembly and the conveyor to rotate the tablets into an upright condition supported on an edge. The tablets are stably held in the upright position by the vacuum pump and are moved rapidly in their upright condition by the rotatably driven conveyor belts. The upright orientation of the tablets permits the opposed sides of each tablet to be electro-optically inspected for defects without repositioning the tablets and without changing the direction of movement.

  • Patent number: 5748148
Abstract: A positional information storage and retrieval system includes a positional detection unit transmitting positional information of at least one subject moving within an operational environment of the system, a plurality of receiver/transmitter units and a processor unit. Coordinate information of the receiver/transmitter units is received by the positional information unit and used to determine the positional information according to triangulation or other techniques embodied within the positional detection unit. The positional information is transmitted to the receiver/transmitter units which, in turn, transmit the positional information to the processor unit. A method for designing such a system includes selecting operational frequencies of the receiver/transmitter units and positioning the receiver/transmitter units throughout the operational environment such that distortion and attenuation of the positional information are minimized.
