  • Publication number: 20070287510
Abstract: User equipment (UE) in a cellular telecommunications system is operated such that the UE begins operating in a power saving state when a first set of predefined criteria have been satisfied, and leaves the power saving state when a second set of predefined criteria have been satisfied. Determining satisfaction of the first set of predefined criteria includes making a plurality of signal quality measurements of a signal received from a serving cell in the telecommunications system, and making a plurality of signal quality measurements of a signal received from one or more neighboring cells. A first trend line is determined from the signal quality measurements of the serving cell, and a second trend line is determined from the signal quality measurements of the one or more neighboring cells. The first set of predefined criteria are considered to have been satisfied if the first and second trend lines are not converging.

  • Patent number: 7308188
Abstract: Even when both a digital audio signal and an analog audio signal are inputted, a type of inputted digital audio signal is identified, and an internal signal path is automatically switched based on the result of the identification operation and previously set content. A main storage of a host microcomputer 12 stores signal path information indicating a signal path to be selected for each type of digital audio signal inputted from each external AV apparatus. A DIR 3 identifies the type of digital audio signal inputted from a digital input terminal 1. The host microcomputer 12 switches an A/D switching selector 4 and an analog direct/DSP process switching selector 7 respectively so that a signal path corresponding to the type of signal shown in the result of an identification operation of the DIR 3 is selected, based on the signal path information.

  • Publication number: 20070279278
Abstract: In order to generate a signal for canceling a chirped signal, a transmitter generates a cancellation signal along with the transmitted signal, using a single term variable complex gain multiplier adapted to cancel the chirped signal only at its instantaneous frequency, rather than attempting to cancel it with a complex FIR filter that works over the entire bandwidth of the chirped signal. The cancellation signal is varied in amplitude and phase as a function of the frequency of the chirped transmit signal for which it is intended to compensate. Since the signal that is to be cancelled is essentially sinusoidal but swept through a frequency range, the cancellation signal for the instantaneous transmit signal needs to be swept in both amplitude and phase in unison with the change in frequency of the transmit signal in order to accommodate gain and phase changes in the transmitted signal as a function of frequency.

  • Patent number: 7302276
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for estimating a path-loss difference between uplink and downlink communications at a first node communicating with a second node in a communication system. A quantity of access request preambles transmitted by the first node to the second node before an acknowledgement from the second node of successful receipt of a preamble is received at the first node is determined. A difference between an uplink path-loss attributed to communications from the first node to the second node and a downlink path-loss attributed to communications to the first node from the second node is estimated based on the transmitted preamble quantity determination. Once the path-loss difference is estimated, the estimate can be used for many purposes, such as to determine a transmission power of the first node.

  • Patent number: 7302628
Abstract: In a packet-based data transmission including incremental redundancy (IR) protocols, the memory consumption of the IR protocol is reduced by compressing and storing failed data units in their punctured format. The failed data units are compressed using low complexity compression/decompression algorithms. The compression algorithm includes two parts: calculating and storing a scale factor for each transmission burst that estimates the soft values in the burst, and storing each soft values' sign in local memory instead of the complete soft value. If the currently received data unit is a retransmission, its compressed versions in the punctured format stored in the IR memory are decompressed, de-punctured and combined with the currently received data unit. The combined data unit is then decoded. The decompression restores an estimated soft-value by multiplying the sign value stored in the IR memory with its corresponding scale factor obtained from a mapping table.
