  • Patent number: 7281746
Abstract: A torque rod-based counterbalancing hinge assembly includes a first assembly for securing the torque rod to one side of vehicle's body and supporting the tailgate to the same side of the vehicle's body, and a second assembly for supporting the other end of the tailgate to the other side of the vehicle's body. The first assembly includes a body bracket with an elongated key slot that receives an elongated key of a pivot coupling having an opening for receiving a first end of the torque rod. A retainer assembly including a one-piece construction retainer block receives and secures to the tailgate a second end of the torque rod, so that it twists as the tailgate is rotated. The retainer block has the structural strength necessary to restrain without failing the torque rod as it is twisted and subjected to a torsional force in response to the rotation of the tailgate.

  • Publication number: 20070237266
Abstract: Hypothesis tests, such as maximum likelihood detections, are executed on symbol sequences received by, for example, a user equipment (UE) in a communication system. The hypothesis tester checks a received sequence against a group of predetermined sequences that possibly could have been sent to the UE. For received sequences that are matched or not matched by the hypothesis tester with high confidence, complete decoding, for example, with a Viterbi decoder, is not necessary. Instead, complete decoding is used as a “tie-breaker” for those sequences which the hypothesis tester cannot match or not match with desired confidence levels.

  • Publication number: 20070235070
Abstract: A high efficiency thermo electric device comprising a multi nanolayer structure of alternating insulator and insulator/metal material that is irradiated across the plane of the layer structure with ionizing radiation. The ionizing radiation produces nanocrystals in the layered structure that increase the electrical conductivity and decrease the thermal conductivity thereby increasing the thermoelectric figure of merit. Figures of merit as high as 2.5 have been achieved using layers of co-deposited gold and silicon dioxide interspersed with layers of silicon dioxide. The gold to silicon dioxide ratio was 0.04. 5 MeV silicon ions were used to irradiate the structure. Other metals and insulators may be substituted. Other ionizing radiation sources may be used. The structure tolerates a wide range of metal to insulator ratio.

  • Publication number: 20070237885
Abstract: A method for producing isolated limonoid glucoside compounds is disclosed which includes extracting a quantity of defatted citrus seed powder with a solvent, filtering the resulting extract to yield a particle free extract and concentrating the particle free extract to yield a concentrate. The concentrate is loaded onto an ion exchange column that is coupled to an adsorption column. The ion exchange column is washed with deionized water and the eluate from the ion exchange column is passed through the adsorption column. The adsorption column is then eluted using a series of mobile phases in which composition of each successive mobile phase is graduated. A series of eluate fractions are collected from the adsorption column and concentrated to produce isolated crystals of limonin glucoside, deacetyl nomilinic acid glucoside and isoobacunoic acid glucoside.

  • Publication number: 20070228763
Abstract: A vehicle decklid displacement mechanism includes a linkage for leveraging displacement of the lid with respect to a vehicle body, an extension strut having spring means biasing the ends of the strut away from each other and a motorized crank. The crank is driven by the motor for pivotal engagement with the extendable strut so that the combined leverage of the linkage and the biasing of the strut geometrically urge the decklid to an open position. A position of the crank is adjusted by the motor to retract the decklid from its fully open position, at which point the weight of the lid overcomes the leverage of the linkage and the biasing of the extendable strut to displace the decklid toward its open position.
