  • Patent number: 6931255
Abstract: A mobile terminal includes a receiver for receiving text messages over an RF channel. The mobile terminal also includes a text-to-speech (TTS) converter that converts the transmitted text messages to an audible form. In this way, the present invention takes advantage of the reduced bandwidth required for transmitting text messages to provide an audible message to subscribers that use the mobile terminals. In an exemplary embodiment, the mobile terminal operates in a GSM communication system and receives text messages that are defined under short message service (SMS) protocol. Also, the TTS converter in the mobile terminal can be used to output the text menus of the mobile terminal's interface in speech (voice) format.

  • Patent number: 6930631
Abstract: A sensor front end for an electronic radar sensor is disclosed that provides for a lower parts count while providing technical functionality by using multifunction parts, i.e., parts that are used both in transmitting and receiving. The sensor front end includes a continuous wave signal source that functions as a signal source when the front end is transmitting a signal and as a local oscillator when the front end is receiving a signal. The sensor front end also includes a tri-mode mixer that functions as a phase-modulator and transmit switch when the front end is transmitting a signal and as a mixer/down-converter when the front end is receiving a signal. The sensor front end further includes a common aperture antenna that acts as both a transmitting antenna for transmitting a sensor signal and for receiving a reflected signal from a object.

  • Publication number: 20050174287
Abstract: A method and a system of triangulating an object by means of at least two sensors. Each sensor is placed in a respective local reference system. Each of the at least two sensors at least provide a bearing to the object in their respective local reference system. According to the invention a triangulation reference system is created. The triangulation reference system is different to any one of the local reference systems and suitably such that at least two local reference systems are rotated more in relation to each other than each one is in relation to the triangulation reference system. Sensor positions and bearings are transformed into the triangulation reference system where the triangulation is performed. Suitably the triangulated position is then transformed into a desired reference system.

  • Publication number: 20050173943
Abstract: A link assembly forming a 6 bar linkage is integrally combined with a spring having a laterally coiled strand to form a hinge that is particularly well adapted to be installed in a small footprint. Such a unit is well adapted for installation within a peripheral channel of a vehicle body opening and to prop the closure in its open position. The present invention also provides a method for reducing packaging footprint of a vehicle closure hinge by integrating the 6 bar linkage with the laterally coiled strand, and selecting a strand shaping to reduce radial dimension of the coil and the coil cross-section while maximizing the radial dimension of material in the strand.

  • Publication number: 20050172453
Abstract: A vehicle closure hinge includes a mount having a pivot axis flange, a pivot link, a pivot coupling the pivot link to the pivot axis flange and a spring formed by a laterally coiled strand extending from a first coil end to a second coil end in a direction substantially perpendicular to the plane of displacement about the pivot axis. The coil size, the strand size and the number of coils can be varied as desired to vary the spring biasing force exerted against the vehicle closure without varying other components of the hinge. The hinge parts may be designed with various configurations including simple pivoting links or a four bar linkage. A strand end of the coil spring extends along the direction of the coil to a position at a first coil end to maintain biasing force near the plane of displacement about the pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 6928085
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing access to a time-slotted communication channel are disclosed. Access to the channel is granted by possession of a pseudo-token transmitted between communication units with packets, such that the recipient of a data packet receives the pseudo-token with the packet. Communication units may be assigned reserved slots during which the pseudo-token automatically is assigned to the communication unit. Further, communication units may be assigned priority levels according to which contention contests may be resolved. Reserved slots and priority rankings may used in combination to accommodate varying levels of QoS required or requested by communication units on the channel.

  • Patent number: 6928277
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for handling global challenge authentication registration in a cellular telecommunications network. A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) receives a registration message from a mobile station, and it determines whether it has capabilities for bypassing global challenge authentication. In instances where the MSC has capabilities for bypassing global challenge authentication, it verifies whether a Visitor Location Register (VLR) relating thereto has a record for the mobile station from which the registration message has been received, and if so, it bypasses the global challenge authentication for the mobile station. When the VLR does not have a record for the mobile station from which the registration message has been received, it performs the global challenge authentication.
