Abstract: A method and a node for associating an IP address of a device with its MAC address, where the network parts of the device and the node are different. The device receives an ARP response comprising the device's IP address and MAC address, accepts the response regardless of a difference between the network parts, and associates the IP address with the MAC address. There is further a method and a node in an IP network where the node receives a message for the device, determines that it does not have the MAC address corresponding to the IP address, and broadcasts an ARP request. The method and node is particularly useful for mobile IP, where a device roams between various sub-nets.

Abstract: A surface-mountable millimeter-wave waveguide filter is constructed using irises in a rectangular waveguide formed in a dielectric material such as glass. The filter structure is surface-mountable, has a single dielectric layer, and can be manufactured using a suitable monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) process. The filter has potential applications in millimeter-wave systems such as Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) and Autonomous Cruise Control (ACC) radar for automobiles.

Abstract: The invention provides a novel method for down-regulating the biological activity of osteoprotegerin ligand (OPGL, TRANCE) thereby rendering possible the treatment/amelioration of diseases characterized by excessive loss of bone mass, e.g. osteoporosis. Down-regulation is effected by inducing an immune response against OPGL in an individual in need thereof. Immune responses can be raised by classical immunization with immunogenic variants of OPGL or by nucleic acid immunization where the nucleic acids encode the OPGL variant. The invention also pertains to compositions, polypeptides and nucleic acids useful in the invention, as well as to vectors and transformed host cells useful in the preparation thereof.
Abstract: The test head manipulator comprises two bearings coupled to a frame. A lead screw is rotatably disposed between the two bearings. A non-translation mechanism is also provided to prevent the lead screw from translating along its longitudinal axis. A lead nut is threaded onto the lead screw, but is prevented from rotating about the longitudinal axis by a non-rotation mechanism. A carriage configured to couple with an electronic test head is coupled to the lead nut by means of a system of cables and pulleys. Therefore, when the lead screw is rotated, the lead nut translates along the longitudinal axis, moving the cables and translating the carriage and test head along a vertical path. The lead screw and nut are non-backdrivable to lock the carriage in position.

Abstract: The chloride corrosion threshold of a metal embedded in a cementitious structure is determined in an accelerated manner by using an electric field to increase the rate of migration of chloride ion into the structure and monitoring the interface between the metal and the cementitious material to detect the onset of corrosion, then determining the chloride corrosion threshold, which is defined as the chloride content of the cementitious material once corrosion has begun. This determination can be performed over a time period of as little as 2 to 3 weeks rather than the months or years required by conventional chloride corrosion test procedures.

Abstract: A snowplow control system is provided that uses the distance between the vehicle frame and the ground or wheel axle as an input to a feedback loop useable to provide increased control over the pressure exerted by the plow blade. The control system allows the plow to operate in various modes of operation including a manual mode, a float mode, and a down pressure mode. The control system interfaces with the vehicle operator by way of a controller that is preferably operable from within the cabin of the vehicle.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for producing a toothbrush comprising a handle and a brush head provided with a plurality of bristle bundles. A basic body of a brush head is produced preferably from a hard component in an injection-moulding means, the bristle bundles being embedded at their ends in bristle-bundle holding sections which are connected by bridge portions. These bridge portions are cut through and the basic body of the brush head is encompassed preferably with a soft component by injection moulding.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for handling cargo, e.g. palletized cargo, with an overhead lifting appliance. The preferred embodiments are characterized by a tray member, on which palletized cargo is loaded, and a cage member, which attaches to the tray member, partially or fully surrounds the cargo, and provides lifting points for attachment to a crane, or other overhead lifting appliance. The cage member attaches to attachment members located on the tray and forms a cargo area. A preferable system provides a tray member sized to receive palletized cargo and a cage member of sufficient height to enclose multiple pallets of cargo stacked vertically.

Abstract: A method and a device for measuring wear on the internal surfaces (12) of barrels (1), in particular weapon barrels. For a very precise determination of the wear on the internal surfaces (12) of barrels (1), a non-contacting scanning of the internal surface (12) of the respective barrel (1) to be checked is carried out with a light-spot triangulation sensor (6), to determine the respective distance between the internal surface (12) and the barrel axis (7) for selected sensor positions. The contour of the internal surface (12) of the respective barrel (1) is then determined from the detected distance changes. It has proven advantageous if the measured distance values are displayed on a monitor (23) in the form of a C-image, wherein different distance ranges are characterized with different colors, so that faulty surface areas can immediately be recognized optically.

Abstract: A machining center capable of fabricating and machining both ends of a work piece, such as a patio door sill. The machining center comprises two heads, each of which comprise several machining devices and tools which can perform the necessary machining operations on each end of the sill. Each head is configured to perform a cope, a back weep, a front weep, a screen weep on the sill, and to drill two holes in the sill. The heads are slidably mounted on rails so that the heads are able to travel in the direction of the length of the sill.
Abstract: This invention is generally in the field of improved ion mobility spectrometry. The improvement lies in the use of periodic focusing electric fields that minimize the spatial spread of the migrating ions by keeping them in a tight radius about the axis of travel. The resulting enhancement in sensitivity is accomplished without a concomitant loss in resolution as would normally be expected when non-linear fields are used.

Abstract: An integrated wavelength monitor and a method for obtaining such a device are disclosed. The device suitable for integration into a laser semiconductor laser module for fiber optic communication can be made in the following way: An interference filter is created directly onto a position sensitive photo detector by depositing a number of layers of different optical transparent materials forming an optical filter. The interference filter may also be created separately and subsequently mounted directly on top of the detector. The integrated position sensitive device (13) is mounted with an angle behind a laser in the same position as a normal power monitor detector. The electrically derived lateral position of light hitting the Position Sensitive Device provided with the interference filter will be dependent of the wavelength of the incident light and this derived position is used for the wavelength monitoring.

Abstract: A method for repairing a leak in a pipe joint, the joint including a gasket. The method requires a passage to be formed through the wall of the first pipe. A space is then formed in the gasket communicating with the passage. After this, a sealant is injected through the passage into the space thus allowing the fluid to repair the leak.

Abstract: Isolated proteins, designated SdrF, SdrG and SdrH, and their corresponding amino acid and nucleic acid sequences are provided which are useful in the prevention and treatment of infection caused by coagulase-negative staphylococcal bacteria such as S. epidermidis. The SdrF, SdrG and SdrH proteins are cell-wall associated proteins that specifically bind host proteins and which each have a highly conserved motif of which the consensus sequence is TYTFTDYVD (SEQ ID NO:16). The proteins, antigenic portions thereof and anti-SdrF, SdrG and SdrH antibodies are also useful for the identification and diagnosis of coagulase-negative staphylococcal infections. In particular, the proteins are advantageous because they may be used as vaccine components or antibodies thereof, and they may be administered to wounds or used to coat biomaterials to act as blocking agents to prevent or inhibit the binding of coagulase-negative staphylococci to wounds or biomaterials.
