Abstract: In a system and method for handing off a mobile node in a seamless manner in a wireless access network, procedures are implemented for allowing the mobile node to synchronize the handoff with a base node (e.g., a home agent) and a correspondent node. In this way, a seamless handoff may be achieved, since few or no data packets sent between the base node or the correspondent node and the mobile node are lost. The procedures are supported by both Mobile IPv4 and Mobile IPv6 as well as Hierarchical Mobile IPv4 and Hierarchical Mobile IPv6.

Abstract: A system and method for enabling a fast wake-up of a flash memory system, without compromising the integrity of the flash data structures and without risking loss of data. This is achieved by storing translation tables in the flash, but adding some means for the software to invalidate them in a way that is detectable whenever reading them. Possible implementations include adding a checksum value that makes the sum of all entries equal some fixed known value, or adding a validity flag to the stored tables, enabling the tables to be invalidated at will. In addition, one should ask the application software to call a specific function in the translation layer before shutting the system down. The present invention enables fast wake-ups when the application software made an orderly exit and made us store the tables. In the case an orderly exit was not made, the present invention commands a regular wake-up procedure, thereby ensuring data intengrity.

Abstract: An apparatus for setting a corner protector on a corner of a package comprises a gripping and positioning device (1) for gripping the corner protector and placing it onto the corner of the package, and a corner protector magazine (2). A storage space (3) in the magazine stores corner protectors arranged as a file. Conveying means (7-10) move the file in the storage space toward the delivery end. A gate (11) has been arranged to be moved between a closed position (II) and an open position (I). An arresting device (13) is provided with a separating tab (14) which moves between an arresting position (A) and a releasing position (B). In the arresting position (A), the separating tab is between the foremost corner protector (41) in the file and the second corner protector (42) next in the file so as to arrest the file of corner protectors while the gate (11) is in the open position (II).
Abstract: The invention relates to a distance measuring device. A transmitting part (E) for electromagnetic radiation especially radar radiation, emits measuring pulses (A, B) which are controlled by a pulse generator (1), and a receiving part (8) is switched to a ready-to-receive mode after a certain, adjustable delay (TDELAY, before a next measuring pulse is emitted, for receiving a reflected pulse during a time gate (18). The aim of the invention is to provide a calibration process taking into account all practical defects. To this end, the pulse generator (1) produces pulses with a multiple of the frequency with which the measuring pulses are repeated and a calibrating cycle in which calibrating pulses (&tgr;0 to &tgr;9) are produced with pulses generated by the pulse generator (1), controlled by the transmitting part (5), is carried out at longer intervals in time.
Abstract: An enhanced near-end voice signal may be generated in a hands-free environment by receiving an audio signal, generating an estimated acoustic echo signal, and generating a processed signal by removing the estimated acoustic echo signal from the audio signal. A near-end enhanced spectrum is then determined, that has one or more ranges of contiguous frequencies over which the detector spectrum takes on its largest values, wherein the range of contiguous frequencies are those associated with a relatively high echo return loss in the processed signal. The processed signal is filtered in accordance with the near-end enhanced spectrum, thereby generating an enhanced near-end voice signal. The enhanced near-end voice signal may then be applied to any of a number of components that are intended to process near-end speech. For example, when applied to a voice activity detector, the amount of energy contained in the enhanced near-end voice signal is then measured.
Abstract: A method and cellular communication network are provided that maintains a desired level of speech quality by controlling the admission of a new call within a serving cell of the network. More specifically, the method includes the step of establishing speech quality values for a serving cell and at least one of a plurality of surrounding cells being interfered with by the serving cell. The method then operates to determine whether or not to admit the new call to the serving cell by utilizing the speech quality measure of the serving cell and the speech quality measure of the at least one surrounding cell in a predetermined manner (e.g., cell level approach, sub-cell approach and combined approach) so as to maintain the desired level of speech quality within the serving cell and the at least one surrounding cell.
Abstract: The chloride corrosion threshold of a metal embedded in a cementitious structure is determined in an accelerated manner by using an electric field to increase the rate of migration of chloride ion into the structure and monitoring the interface between the metal and the cementitious material to detect the onset of corrosion, then determining the chloride corrosion threshold, which is defined as the chloride content of the cementitious material once corrosion has begun. This determination can be performed over a time period of as little as 2 to 3 weeks rather than the months or years required by conventional chloride corrosion test procedures.
Abstract: The invention relates to policy information transfer in 3GPP networks. A Policy Decision Point (PDP) that deals with more than one Policy Enforcement Point (PEP) has a table associating IP addresses with PEPs so that it knows what PEP to send the policy information to. The invention also provides methods for keeping the table updated and transferring the information to the right PEP, and a protocol that is used for messages from the PEP to the PDP.
Abstract: A cold process bake fruit paste including a fruit concentrate, water, a corn syrup sweetener, and a stabilizer system comprising a blend of first instant granular modified corn starch hydratable into a highly viscose free standing mass when exposed to free water and a second instant granular natural corn starch hydratable by free water to form a resilient, colloidal gel structure with the first and second starches hydrated after being fully dispersed in fruit paste.
Abstract: A substrate cleaning apparatus comprises an outer shell constructed such that the outer shell is selectively openable or hermetically closable to form a sealed space, an inner shell enclosed within the outer shell and having a holding member for holding a substrate, and a dispenser unit for feeding at least one of gas and liquid into the inner shell. Within the sealed space formed by the outer shell, a highly gas-tight space is formed by the inner shell to permit cleaning of the substrate within the highly gas-tight space. Also disclosed are a dispenser, a substrate holding mechanism and a substrate cleaning chamber, which are suitable for use with the substrate cleaning apparatus, and substrate cleaning processes making use of these dispenser, substrate holding mechanism and substrate cleaning chamber, respectively.
Abstract: A method for determining the quantity of phenol extracted into an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide uses a measurement of the pH of the solution, from which the equivalents of phenol relative to alkali metal hydroxide in solution is determined. A method for optimizing the use of an aqueous solution of an alkali metal hydroxide in a phenol recovery process uses pH measured to regulate the feed rate of the aqueous solution.
Abstract: Improved silicon carbide composites made by an infiltration process feature a metal phase in addition to any residual silicon phase. Not only are properties such as mechanical toughness improved, but the infiltrant can be so engineered as to have much diminished amounts of expansion upon solidification, thereby enhancing net-shape-making capabilities. Further, multi-component infiltrant materials may have a lower liquidus temperature than pure silicon, thereby providing the practitioner greater control over the infiltration process. In particular, the infiltration may be conducted at the lower temperatures, where low-cost but effective bedding or barrier materials can terminate the infiltration process once the infiltrant has migrated through the permeable mass up to the boundary between the mass and the bedding material.

Abstract: An electronic combination lock including an electronic combination input device, a lock-bolt mounted for movement between locked and unlocked positions and a rotatable first engagement element having disengaged and engageable positions. A first electric actuator is electrically coupled with the electronic combination input device and includes a rotatable output for rotating the first engagement element to its engageable position in response to a proper combination input. A manually operated and rotatable second engagement element may be engaged with the first engagement element in the engageable position thereof. A lock-bolt drive mechanism is operatively coupled between the lock-bolt and the first engagement element. A second electric actuator includes a movable output operatively coupled to the first engagement element to prevent the first engagement element from rotating until the proper combination is input.
