Patent number: 6477148Abstract: An entire radio transceiver can be completely integrated into one IC chip. In order to integrate the IF filters on the chip, a heterodyne architecture with a low IF is used. A single, directly modulated VCO is used for both up-conversion during transmission, and down-conversion during reception. Bond-wires are used as resonators in the oscillator tank for the VCO. A TDD scheme is used in the air interface to eliminate cross-talk or leakage. A Gaussian-shaped binary FSK modulation scheme is used to provide a number of other implementation advantages.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Karl Håkan Torbjörn Gardenfors, Sven Mattisson, Jacobus Cornelis Haartsen

Patent number: 6475750Abstract: A biosensor (10) has a hydrogel (30) in a rigid and referably biocompatible enclosure (20). The hydrogel (30) includes an immobilized glucose-binding molecule such as concanavalin A (Con A) and an immobilized hexose saccharide such as a-D-mannopyranoside. The immobilized hexose saccharide competitively binds with free glucose to the glucose-binding molecules, thus changing the number of crosslinks in the hydrogel (30), which changes hydrogel swelling tendency and the pressure of the hydrogel in its confined space in proportion to the concentration of free glucose. By measuring the change in hydrogel pressure with a pressure transducer (40), the biosensor (10) is able to accurately measure the concentration of the tree glucose molecule without the problem of oxygen limitations and interference encountered by prior art biosensors.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: M-Biotech, Inc.Inventors: In Suk Han, You Han Bae, Dal Young Jung, Jules John Magda

Patent number: 6472842Abstract: A system and method for controlling a switched-reluctance motor, in which a control variable is selected for controlling a figure of merit of the motor. The motor is then operated at a first value of the control variable. The control variable is adjusted to a second value, and the motor is operated at the second value of the control variable. A first indicator indicative of the figure of merit of the motor operating at the first value of the control variable is compared to a second indicator indicative of the figure of merit of the motor operating at the second value of the control variable. Thereafter, a new value is selected as the first value of the control variable in response to the comparison of the first indicator first to the second indicator.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: The Texas A&M University SystemInventor: Mehrdad Ehsani
