Abstract: The invention relates to a clutch assembly for a powertrain of a motor vehicle, comprising at least one clutch and at least one actuation device. The clutch can be brought into an open position and/or a closed position by means of the actuation device such that a first sub-region of the powertrain and a second sub-region of the powertrain are decoupled and/or coupled. The actuation device comprises an actuation element and a control element which is connected to the clutch. The control element is arranged in a guidable manner in a guide slot with respect to the actuation element, and the control element is held in the region of the guide slot by means of an energy storage element, which counteracts a movement of the control element out of a first stop position along the guide slot, in the closed position of the clutch. The invention also relates to a method for decoupling the first sub-region of the powertrain from the second sub-region of the powertrain by means of the clutch assembly.

Abstract: An integrated pinion, bearing and coupling (PBC) assembly for use with a hypoid gearset in power transfer assemblies of motor vehicles. The PBC assembly includes a pinion unit having a pinion gear segment and a pinion stub shaft segment, and a coupler unit having a coupling flange segment and a coupler shaft segment. The pinion stub shaft segment surrounds and is in press fit engagement with the coupler shaft segment. Abstract: A clutch assembly includes an outer race presenting a plurality of outer ratchet teeth and an inner race presenting a plurality of outer ratchet teeth. A selectable one-way clutch includes at least one active strut pivotably supported by the outer race and at least one electromagnetic actuator. The electromagnetic actuator is selectively energized for effectuating pivoting of the active strut from an unlocked position wherein the active strut is disengaged from the outer ratchet teeth to a locked position for engaging one of the plurality of outer ratchet teeth during rotation of the inner race. The clutch assembly includes a lead frame assembly attached to the outer race and electrically connected to the at least one electromagnetic actuator for controlling selective energization of the at least one electromagnetic actuator.

Abstract: A two-speed transfer case for a four-wheel drive vehicle is provided. The transfer case has a two-speed gear reduction unit, a range clutch, and a range shift mechanism. The range shift mechanism is operably disposed between an input shaft and a rear output shaft and includes a range cam defining a guide slot having a unique profile for converting rotation thereof into linear movement of the range clutch. The guide slot includes low-range dwell segment and a high-range dwell segment interconnected by a range shift segment. The range shift segment defines a plurality of interconnected cam portions, wherein each cam portion is associated with a different load required to move the range clutch between a high-range and low-range position. The transfer case further includes a mode shift mechanism for establishing a high-range drive connection and a low-range drive connection associated with the dwells of the range cam.

Abstract: A bi-directional clutch assembly, method of construction thereof and method of setting a preset gap between a magnetically permeable core and armature thereof is provided, An outer race has inner ratchet teeth and an inner race has outer ratchet teeth. A passive one-way clutch has passive struts pivotally supported for locked engagement with the inner ratchet teeth in a first direction. A selectable one-way clutch has an active strut selectively pivotal from an unlocked position to a locked position for engaging the outer ratchet teeth during rotation of the inner race in a second direction opposite the first direction. A protrusion extends radially outwardly from the outer race and has an orifice extending therethrough. A coil is operably supported by the protrusion. The passive struts are unevenly circumferentially spaced from one another along the inner race to establish an indexed relationship among the passive struts for staggering engagement of sequential passive struts with the inner ratchet teeth of the outer race.
