  • Patent number: 4138925
Abstract: A deburring device has a fixed or pivotable head on a rod or shaft which projects into the tube, pipe or other hollow to be deburred. The head has an oblique bore in which sits a tube; a cutting edge is provided along and around one end of that tube. Turning of the edge permits easy use of a new cutting edge portion. The position of the cutting tube is adjusted by a hollow nut through which runs also the removed burr. Guide rolls on the shaft position the tool, whereby rolls on the opposite side of the cutter are resiliently journalled.

  • Patent number: 4132003
Abstract: The curvature of dual roller tracks is measured by centering a frame on two oppositely disposed rollers of the two tracks, and by measuring various distances and spacing parameters of the track rollers to both sides. The measurements are carried out through spindle drives and protractible feelers, all operated directly or indirectly in relation to a common reference point.

  • Patent number: 4131027
Abstract: A pipe is reeled onto and over a stand having several positioning rollers to serve as reference for the pipe inspection devices. These devices include a plurality of transducers for longitudinal flaw detection arranged in pairs and along opposite sides of the seam, the transducers being in water tanks hung in gimbals on individual swing arms. Four additional transducers for transverse flaw detection are arranged in a tank hung also in gimbals for positioning the tanks so that it engages the seam while the transducers are aligned with the seam. A gimbal hung tank with two edge probing transducers engages lastly the pipe seam.

  • Patent number: 4110991
Abstract: Pipe sections or tubing is prepared by enveloping in flexible, rather wide hose, and just prior to submarine installation the space between hose and tubing is filled step-wise with wet or dry cement which will set after the tubing has been laid on the sea or lake floor. Anchoring wires with spacers are provided in that space before filling with concrete and the filled hose is armored with ropes or cables to divide the concrete in a quilt-like manner.

  • Patent number: 4106366
Abstract: A play-free planetary drive includes a sun gear and an internal gear between which planetary gears revolve as they rotate. The planetary gears are slightly beveled. The sun gear and the internal gear also are beveled, so that the bevel of the sun gear and of the internal gear match that of the planetary gears. With this arrangement of the gears, the sun gear and the internal gear are urged axially against the planetary gears, meshing into them until play has been eliminated. The internal gear is non-rotatably mounted to the housing, but is permitted to shift slightly radially to accommodate radial run-out of the planetary gears. Likewise, the sun gear is permitted to shift slightly radially to accommodate radial run-out of the planetary gears. The radial accommodation thus provided achieves a degree of load equalization among the planetary gears.

  • Patent number: 4106326
Abstract: The initialization and preparation procedure described involves particularly ultrasonic test equipment for ultrasonic inspection of welding seams of pipes while passing through a production line. A dummy is used off line to determine suitable distances and orientation of test heads and to acquire relevant transit time and amplitude data. A standard is then used to obtain additional reference data to be related to the dummy test data. After the test heads are installed in the production line test stand, tests are repeated with the standard to obtain now the needed test reference data in conjunction with the previously related data. This way, looking windows for flaw echos as well as sensitivity data for the subsequent tests are accurately and reproducibly predetermined.

  • Patent number: 4104342
Abstract: A method for making metal powder by atomizing molten metal is improved by causing the solidifying metal droplets to be subjected to a whirling flow of a powdery coolant such as a different powder, e.g. quartz sand or powder separated from the extracted flow of powder just made and cooled additionally. The whirling flow is sustained by blowing an inert gas in up direction into the powder collection chamber.

  • Patent number: 4100959
Abstract: Molten steel pouring from a ladle into a tundish is surrounded by a vessel which is pressurized to maintain an excess pressure of an inert gas and/or a gas or vapor of a material that treats the steel, e.g., for deoxidizing, desulfurizing and/or other cleansing action. The excess pressure per se inhibits any reoxidation. Reactant material is fed to the chamber at a rate to maintain the excess pressure and/or to ensure sufficient presence of reacting material commensurate with the amount of steel passing through.

  • Patent number: 4100786
Abstract: A feeder is acted upon by opposing hydraulic drives and a spindle drive limits the advance. Hydraulic buffers are interposed either between the spindles and the feeder or between a carriage carrying the spindle drive and the machine bed. The buffer biasing force exceeds the force exerted by the feeder advance upon the feeder. The rate of buffer response is tracked separately.

  • Patent number: 4093003
Abstract: Apparatus for loading and unloading of ships, including a stand pipe on a dock, an inner jib pipe, a beam approximately parallel to the inner jib pipe, and an outer jib pipe whose free end has a pipe line coupling for connection to the coupling device of a ship. The inner jib pipe at one end is connected to and pivotal in a vertical plane on the stand pipe. The inner jib pipe on its other end supports the outer jib pipe, which is pivotal in the same plane. An extension of the outer jib pipe extending beyond the latter pivot is pivotally connected to one end of the beam. The beam towards its other end is connected pivotally to a link which itself is pivotally connected to the stand pipe. The pivot bearings for the beam and inner jib pipe are arranged coaxially on the stand pipe. The beam and the inner jib pipe are extended beyond the pivot bearing with the stand pipe and carry compensating weights.
