  • Patent number: 4222430
Abstract: A valve element is formed with a groove or notch in the region of the valve seat. The valve element is then introduced into a crucible pot which has the outer shape of the valve, when coated, and a cover is placed thereover completing the shape of the valve, when coated. Granular coating material, for example "Colmonoy 6" (0.75% C, 4.25% Si, 13 to 20% Cr. remainder Ni, 4.75% Fe and 3% B), is placed on the valve element, the cover is then placed thereover, leaving a small gap of the thickness of the coating around the valve element. The assembly is then subjected to vacuum, about 10.sup.-6 -10.sup.-7 torr, and heated to liquefaction temperature of the armor-coating material, which will fill the space between the valve element and the crucible pot and cover, thus coating the valve element with a thin coating therearound, and a thick layer in the region of the groove of the valve element, which may be in the order of millimeters, whereas the remainder may be in the order of thousandths of a millimeter.

  • Patent number: 4213625
Abstract: A bus arranged in accordance with the present invention permits the boarding level to be minimized at bus stops without unduly reducing the ground clearance to be maintained during operation. When supporting struts are being extended at a bus stop, the bus will tilt forward about a horizontal transverse axis extending through these supporting points, so that the distance between the bus body and the roadway will considerably decrease in the forward portion of the bus. Short-circuiting the air suspension bellows of front and rear axles prevents the air bellows from countering the down-movement of the bus body with a restoring force. When passengers have boarded, the bus is restored to its horizontal position by retracting the supporting struts, with the air from the air bellows of the rear axle flowing back to the front axle.

  • Patent number: 4205790
Abstract: A fuel injector for air-compressing, direct-injection internal combustion engines. The injector essentially comprises a nozzle body, a hollow nozzle needle which is axially displaceable therein, and a second nozzle needle which is displaceable within said hollow nozzle needle. The two nozzle needles are controlled in such a way that in the lower speed and/or load range of the internal combustion engine, initially only one nozzle needle opens to release one or some of the spray holes, while the full fuel injection, which may be in different directions, occurs only at full load by opening the other nozzle needle. One of the spray holes is coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the injector, and in the closed and partly opened state of the injector, a pin of the second nozzle needle extends into this hole with clearance.

  • Patent number: 4200065
Abstract: A method for preventing undesirable heat losses in a cooling system for liquid-cooled vehicular internal-combustion engines by affecting the flow at the connections of the lines to and from the header tank of the cooling system by measures commonly practiced in flow engineering such that the pressure will be the same at the inlet and the outlet of the header tank, so that with the thermostat closed no coolant is allowed to flow through the header tank and on through the radiator. With a cooling system having an engine vent line which connects to the header tank this method produces, by affecting the flow in the engine vent area and with the engine running and the thermostat closed, a pressure at the connecting point of the vent line for engine venting which is equal to that prevailing at the entry of the vent line to the header tank.

  • Patent number: 4187968
Abstract: To provide for automatic threading of a paper web throughout an entire printing press equipped with a press threading mechanism, and also over the folding former thereof, two paper guide baffles are located at the back side of the folding former extending in converging direction from the edges of the former to the tip thereof and up to the nip between a pair of take-up rollers located below, and adjacent the tip of the former. Air pressure differential generating means, typically air blast nozzles are directed towards the guide baffles to generate an under pressure adjacent to surfaces thereof which will pull paper downwardly into the nip between the take-up rollers. The take-up rollers themselves have a knurled, or ribbed surface and are driven by air blasts directed against the ribbing of the surface, to move paper which is guided over the folding former by the air blasts away and through the former mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4183320
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the nickel-plating of components, in which the finished component, which is to be nickel-plated, is heated to a temperature between 150.degree. and 200.degree. C. and is at the same time subjected to a continuously flowing gas stream containing nickeltetracarbonyl (Ni(CO).sub.4) and an entrainment gas. In this procedure nickel is constantly desposited from the gas phase on the heated surface from the gas stream which continuously flows around the finished component and consists of an entrainment gas and nickeltetracarbonyl. The nickel coating produced by this procedure adheres well, given normal pre-cleaning, and is practically seal-tight even in very thin coating thicknesses (0.1-1.mu.).

  • Patent number: 4183719
Abstract: The rear radially extending component of a radial flow turbine or compressor rotor is centered on a cylindrical surface spaced from the common shaft, on which the rotor is wedged by a tapered sleeve, by an extension of one component fitting into a recess in the other, but this cylindrical surface is not required to transfer any torque, because that is transferred from the forwardly extending component to the radially extending component by ridges of one fitting into radial grooves of the other near the base of the vanes. Greater thermal expansion of the radially extending component is accommodated by the claw ridge slipping radially in its groove.
