  • Patent number: 4271730
Abstract: Wrenching or torquing device for installing and tightening screws to a higher torque through a torque-type power wrench attached to the lower end of an extensible telescope strut. The strut travels along an overhead rail through the intermediary of a roller tram. • Patent number: 4266911
Abstract: A wind power plant comprising a tower carrying a power system including a power house and vanes rotatable by the wind. The tower has a lower natural frequency of vibration between the lower and higher critical frequencies of vibration of the power system, and the tower has a higher natural frequency of vibration above the higher critical frequency of vibration of the power system. A ring surrounds and is disconnectably attached to the tower, and guy wires extend from the ring to the ground. The power system is assembled on the ground and so that it surrounds the tower, and the power system is then elevated, together with the ring, along the tower. Elevation may be accomplished with cables and a winch. Alternatively, a thread-like ledge may surround the tower and the power house may carry means for engaging and moving along the ledge to elevate and lower the power house.

  • Patent number: 4254915
Abstract: A fuel injector for internal combustion engines. The fuel injector comprises a nozzle needle which is axially displaceably arranged in a nozzle body and is adapted to be lifted off its conical valve seat in response to fuel pressure. A pin of the nozzle needle extends below the valve seat into a cavity provided in the nozzle body. In the nozzle body, below the cavity, there is provided a blind hole having a diameter smaller than that of the cavity. The pin extends into this blind hole when the fuel injector is closed or slightly opened, providing substantial sealing in a radial direction. At least one spray hole enters the blind hole eccentrically in such a way that a clearance is formed which communicates with the cavity.

  • Patent number: 4247309
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the separation of gas bubbles from a liquid which is subjected to a flow, in which a flowing portion of the liquid is brought into contact with an arcuate wall at an opening and deflected into a relatively quiescent liquid along a surface, so as to produce a vortex at the contact surface between the two liquid portions in such a manner as to project the vortex into the flowing portion as well as into the relatively quiescent portion, and whereby its axis extends in parallel or almost parallel to the contact surface, so that gas bubbles will be conducted from the flowing liquid portion by the vortex into the relatively quiescent liquid portion, from which the gas bubbles will then separate out under the influence of buoyant force.

  • Patent number: 4241659
Abstract: To permit reversal of sheets having extended length, a sheet storage or sheet transfer drum in engagement with a sheet reversal drum is formed with a sheet displacement apparatus located on the sheet storage drum rearwardly--with respect to the direction of rotation thereof--of the gripper means of the sheet storage drum and operable to lift a sheet off the circumference of the storage drum; the sheet displacement means preferably is a rail extending axially across the width of the storage drum which can swing from a circumferential position on the storage drum to an extended position, under control of a fixed cam thus, effectively, shortening the length of the overlap of a sheet on the storage drum on the circumference thereof and permitting handling of longer sheets thereby. The extension of the sheet displacement means is carried out at a position when the displacement means are out of engagement or interference with any adjacent cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4239201
Abstract: To eliminate the need for braking sheets or webs being fed to a pleat-and-pinch folding apparatus, a pleating blade, suspended to fold sheets in the nip between folding rollers is arranged for reciprocating movement in the direction of feed of the sheets or web, conjointly with movement of the rollers so that the moving sheet is being creased and pushed into the nip between the rollers while it still has a longitudinal movement component, which is synchronized essentially with the axial movement of the rollers and the longitudinal movement of the pleating blade. The longitudinal movement of the sheet or web is stopped after the sheet has been gripped between the rollers and as it is being fed to a further transport arrangement, return movement of the rollers and the blade being effected between feeds of subsequent sheets. The axial movement of the roller and the longitudinal movement of the pleating blade can be controlled by cams, eccenters and the like.

  • Patent number: 4231226
Abstract: Liquid natural gases are vaporized by directing them into heat exchange relationship with waste heat produced from a thermal power engine. In a closed turbine cycle system, vapor which is discharged from the turbine is passed through one or more heat exchangers and the natural gas is moved through the heat exchanger in heat exchange relationship with the vapor to effectively cool the vapor as well as to evaporate the natural gases which are supplied in a liquid form, for example.

  • Patent number: 4231543
Abstract: A controllable hydraulic valve mechanism for reciprocating engines or pumps including a drive piston, operable by a cam is provided with control edges and projects into a drive cylinder; a working piston which operates the valve directly and is guided in a working cylinder. The valve mechanism provides a continuous communication between the drive cylinder interior and a second reservoir which absorbs a substantial part of the energy produced by the lift of a cam. Control sleeves surround the drive piston and are operable by actuating means operable from outside the drive cylinder. Each of the control sleeves has a control ring groove which cooperates with control edges provided in the drive piston. A further sleeve in the working cylinder surrounds the working piston, is rotatable by actuating means operable from outside the working cylinder, and is provided with a control ring groove for varying the valve lift.

  • Patent number: 4227685
Abstract: To align sheets being fed to a printing machine without interruption of smooth flow of sheet feeding, the sheets are aligned while they are being fed from a stack to a set-up or alignment table 19 by imparting thereto a lateral force to direct the moving sheets towards a side or lateral stop. The vectorial lateral force component can be obtained by skewing transport belts 33 laterally, providing a transversely running belt 83 with freely movable engagement balls to press the sheets against the transversely moving belt, or tilting the transport table or conveyor system 17 and imparting vibration thereto so that the sheets will be jogged against a lateral stop 45, arriving properly longitudinally as well as laterally oriented at the set-up or alignment table for subsequent feeding into the printing machine. Preferably, the drive mechanism for the transport conveyor belts includes a variable speed transmission to selectively control overlap of subsequent sheets being fed.
