Abstract: Disclosed are herbicidally active pyrimidine derivatives of the formula ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or an etherifying group, e.g., a lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, lower alkynyl, phenyl-substituted lower alkenyl, lower haloalkenyl, cycloalkyl, substituted phenyl-substituted lower alkenyl or phenyl-substituted lower alkynyl group; or a group represented by the following formula: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, X a halogen atom or a lower alkyl or lower alkoxyl group, m and n individually 0-2, and when m is 2, both Xs may be the same or different, and herbicidal compositions containing the same, alone or in combination with another herbicidally active compound, the pyrimidine derivatives being prepared by reaction of 2-(4,6-dimethoxy-2-pyrimidinyloxy)benzaldehyde with NH.sub.2 OR or with a salt of hydroxylamine followed by reaction with a halide of the formula RY wherein R has the same value as above and Y is Cl, Br or I.
Abstract: A methylene-crosslinked polyarylamine is disclosed which contains a less amount of N-methylmethylenedianiline. A process for continuously preparing this kind of methylene-crosslinked polyarylamine is also revealed which comprises reacting aniline with formalin in the presence of hydrochloric acid under specific reaction conditions.
Abstract: This invention provides an aromatic polyamide having excellent gas-barrier property as well as excellent melt-moldability, thermal stability, mechanical strength and transparency. Because of its excellent gas-barrier property, this aromatic polyamide can be used, for example, as a material for containers, and protects articles held in the containers from gases.
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided substituted naphthalene compounds represented by the following formula [I]. ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents alkyl of 1-18 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 represents alkyl of 1-18 carbon atoms, X is a group represented by --OCH.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --, and n is 0 or 1.In accordance with the invention, moreover, there is provided liquid crystal compositions containing the substituted naphthalene compounds represented by the above-mentioned formula [I].
Abstract: Magnetooptical recording media according to the present invention are disclosed. By virtue of comprising films of Nd-Dy-Co, Nd-M-Fe or Nd-M-Fe-Co alloy system (in which M denotes Tb, Dy or Ho) having a magnetic easy axis perpendicular to the film, the present magnetooptical recording media have such advantages that there is not any fear of lowering magnetic properties owing to the oxidation of the alloy films, and that there is no need of heating substrates when said alloy films are intended to be formed on the substrates. Accordingly, these alloy films can be formed even on such substrates composed of organic materials such as plastics. Moreover, magnetooptical recording media which comprise the alloy films in accordance with the present invention have excellent magnetic properties such as perpendicular magnetic, anisotropic energy in direction normal to the film, coercive force and saturation magnetization, particularly in point of coercive force.

Abstract: The invention relates to an aromatic amine resin comprising a mixture of aromatic amine compounds represented by the following general formula (a): ##STR1## wherein A represents a phenylene, alkyl-substituted phenylene, diphenylene, diphenyl ether or naphthylenyl group, R.sup.1 represents a halogen atom or a hydroxyl C.sub.1-4 alkoxy or C.sub.1-5 alkyl group, l is 1 or 2, m is 0, 1, 2 or 3, n is an integer from 0 to 300 and when m is 2 or 3, the R.sup.1 group may be the same or different and may join to form a 5- or 6-membered alicyclic moiety which may optionally contain one or more side chains, and also relates to processes for producing the same and a thermosetting composition containing the same.
Abstract: A striker used in a lock device of a vehicle door has a U-shaped rod provided with an outside leg, an inside leg extending in parallel with the outside leg, and a connecting portion joining the ends of both legs. In order to strengthen the striker, the sectional area of the inside leg is larger than the outside leg, and the connecting portion has a wedge shape the thick portion thereof being placed at the inside portion. Thus, strength of the connecting portion to the inside leg is made larger than that of another connecting portion to the outside leg.
Abstract: A continuous preparation method of an amino resin particulate having a maximum particle size of 40 .mu.m or less and an average particle size of from 5 to 15 .mu.m is described. The method comprises the steps of reacting amino compounds with aldehydes in the presence of an acid catalyst in an aqueous solution to form a solid product and classifying said solid product in the form of a slurry with a combination of at least two grinders and at least two classifiers.
Abstract: A method of inspection of structures in which a hammer capable of imparting a non-destructive impact to an object to be inspected and provided with a pressure sensor or an acceleration sensor is hit against the object and, from a signal then put out, a processed signal of the time during which the hammer is in contact with the object or of the waveform signal during such time is displayed, apparatus provided with a signal processing device for the measurement of the above time, and apparatus provided with a device for removing an impact driving force responsive to a signal put out when the hammer contacts the object, for the measurement.
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a novel graft copolymer comprising a stock copolymer (A) of at least one monomer selected from esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids and vinyl esters (a), ethylene (b) and carbon monoxide (c), and a polyamide oligomer having a primary amino group at one end of its molecule (B) grafted on said stock copolymer, and a process for the preparation thereof. The proposed graft copolymer, when used as an adhesive, in particular for adhesion of polyvinyl chloride, exhibits excellent heat resistance and adhesion properties.
Abstract: A thermosetting resin composition formed of a polyaminobismaleimide resin, which is composed of a bismaleimide compound and a diamine compound, and a solid lubricant. The composition has low coefficient of friction and excellent wear resistance, and can be utilized for self-lubricating parts.

Therefore, an excellent conductivity and solderability of the cured film can be obtained.

Abstract: A refrigerating and humidity-regulating system for a container is disclosed, which comprises a refrigerating unit having a humidity-regulating apparatus assembled therein. This humidity-regulating apparatus includes a solid adsorptive material, an air heater, an air blowing means, and an air circulation route for circulating inside and outside air through the air heater and the solid adsorptive material, in that sequence. The solid adsorptive material may be formed as a fixed bed, and inside air and outside air are alternately circulated through the fixed bed. In one preferred embodiment, the above-mentioned humidity-regulating apparatus is assembled in multiple in the refrigerating unit, wherein in each of the humidity-regulating apparatuses the solid adsorptive material is formed as a fixed bed, and inside air and outside air are alternately circulated through the fixed bed in each humidity-regulating apparatus.
Abstract: Escherichia coli carrying a hybrid plasmid having been constructed by inserting a desired foreign gene into an expression vector so as to permitting expression of said desired foreign gene therein was cultured at a temperature 40.degree. C. or over so that the expression of said desired foreign gene was suppressed. This E. coli (i.e., transformant) was cultured at 40.degree. C. or over in a first process to suppress the expression of the foreign gene and to support sufficient cell growth and thereafter below 40.degree. C. in a second process to release the suppression of the expression so as to permit effective production of the foreign gene product, which resulted in high concentration of the foreign gene product in the final culture.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for preparing a polyimide having good heat-stability and excellent flowability in a molten state.The polymide is prepared by reacting aromatic diamines such as 4,4'-bis(3-aminophenoxy)biphenyl, bis[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl] ketone and bis [4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl] sulfone; tetracarboxylic dianhydrides such as pyromellitic dianhydride, 3,3', 4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride and bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl) ether dianhydride; and dicarboxylic anhydrides such as glutaric anhydride, 1,2-hexanedicarboxylic anhydride, phthalic anhydride and 3,4-benzophenonedicarboxylic anhydride. The molar ratio of aromatic diamine: tetracarboxylic dianhydride: dicarboxylic anhydride is 1:(0.9 to 1.0):(0.001 to 1.0).The invention also relates to polyimide composite materials which are excellent in mechanical strengths and processability.
Abstract: According to the present invention, there is provided an improvement of a process for producing fluorine-containing copolymers comprising copolymerizing(a) a chlorinated fluoroolefin,(b) vinyl ether, and(c) an organosilicon compound having an olefinically unsaturated bond and a hydrolyzable bond,the improvement resides in that a chlorine trapping agent is allowed to exist in the system during the copolymerization reaction and/or the purification of the resulting copolymer, and the fluorine-containing copolymers are free from coloration.Further, according to the present invention, a fluorine-containing copolymer composition containing a specific curing catalyst is also provided and said composition is excellent in adhesion to substrates or base materials.
