Abstract: A melt-blowing die including a plurality of capillaries and orifices is used to obtain more than one flow of a molten resin from the tip portion of the capillary die by providing a plurality of notches on the tip portion of the die. A high-speed gas flows through the notches between the tip portions of the die to divide the resin into more than one flow. The invention prevents fibers from becoming entangled or ball-shaped.
Abstract: Disclosed is a polyolefin fiber having an improved initial elongation, which comprises a strongly drawn body of a composition comprising ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene and an ultra-high-molecular-weight copolymer of ethylene with an olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms at such a ratio that the content of the olefin having at least 3 carbon atoms in the entire composition is such that the number of side chains per 1000 carbon atoms in the composition is 0.2 to 5.0 on the average, and having an intrinsic viscosity [.eta.] of at least 5 dl/g as the entire composition, wherein the strongly drawn body has at least two crystal melting endothermic peaks, close to each other, in the region of temperatures higher by at least 15.degree. C. than the inherent crystal melting temperature (Tm) of the composition determined as the main melting endothermic peak at the second temperature elevation when measured in the restrained state by a differential scanning calorimeter.
Abstract: A process for preparing polyoxyalkylene polyamine having secondary amino groups at the end of polymer chain by reaction of polyoxyalkylene polyol with primary amine is disclosed.Polyoxyalkylene polyamine having higher content of the secondary amino groups can be obtained by using a catalyst containing (1) Ni and Zn, (2) Co and Zn, or (3) Ni, Co and Zn; by using a conventionally known catalyst in the presence of monohydric alcohol; or by using the catalyst containing (1) Ni and Zn, (2) Co and Zn, or (3) Ni, Co and Zn, in the presence of monohydric alcohol.
Abstract: A molten Raney copper alloy containing copper and a metal selected from Al, Si and Zn as major components and, if necessary, specific metals as minor components is solidified at a cooling rate of not less than 1.times.10.sup.2 K/sec by a rotary water atomizing process, water or gas atomizing process, single roll process or similar process. The Raney copper alloy thus obtained is leached to obtain a Raney copper catalyst. The resultant catalyst exhibits activity several times higher than that of conventional Raney copper catalysts in the reaction of acrylonitrile with water to give acrylamide.
Abstract: The vehicular door locking device according to the present invention with a ratchet fastened pivotably to a locking device body via a first shaft, adapted to prevent the reverse turning of a latch and having a first projection; an opening lever mounted pivotably on the first shaft, connected to a door handle and having an elongated bore extending radially with respect to the first shaft; an L-shaped locking lever mounted fixedly on an output shaft of an actuator, adapted to be turned between a locking position and an unlocking position, and having a first arm to which one end portion of a rod extending to a sill knob on a door is connected, and a second arm; and an interlocking member connected pivotably to the second arm via a second shaft and having a second projection engaged with the elongated bore. When the locking lever is in the unlocking position, the first and second shafts are aligned with each other, and the first and second projections are positioned in a mutually opposed state.
Abstract: In a first form, a process is provided for preparing phenol by converting acetone by-produced by the cumene process into isopropanol, and alkylating benzene with the isopropanol and optional propylene, thereby forming phenol without acetone by-product. And cumene is prepared by alkylating benzene in the presence of a zeolite catalyst using isopropanol or a mixture of isopropanol and propylene as an alkylating agent. Further provided is the continuous alkylation of benzene with isopropanol wherein a reaction mixture is divided into first and second portions, with the first portion being recycled to the reactor and the second portion being taken out as a reaction product.
Abstract: A resin composition for sealing semiconductors which comprises (a) an epoxy resin, (b) a hardening agent, (c) an inorganic filler and (d) a polymaleimide having a specific structure is herein provided. Preferably, the resin composition comprises, as all of or a part of the epoxy resin, a modified epoxy resin composed of (i) a graft polymer of an epoxy resin and a vinyl polymer and (ii) a silicone polymer in an oily state or as particles having an average particle size of not more than 1.0 micron, which are uniformly dispersed in the graft polymer. The resin composition for sealing semiconductors exhibits a low thermal expansion coefficient and a low elastic modulus, generates low stress when thermal shock is applied thereto and exhibits high heat resistance during soldering even after moisture absorption.
Abstract: An olefin polymerization catalyst component subjected to successive preliminary polymerization treatment using each of a straight chain alpha-olefin having 2 to 5 carbon atoms and 3-methyl-1-butene; an olefin polymerization catalyst using the olefin polymerization catalyst component; a process for polymerizing olefin(s) which comprises polymerizing or copolymerizing olefin(s) in the presence of the olefin polymerization catalyst; and a film and an injection-molded article of polypropylene which is prepared by the process are also provided.

Abstract: In the present invention, a polymer having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of from 200 to 40,000 and a glass transition point of from -75.degree. C. to +10.degree. C. which is obtained by the cationic polymerization of a branched alpha-olenin is used as a tackifier (a tacky producer) for a hot melt adhesive or a pressure-sensitive adhesive. An adhesive composition containing the polymer described above as a tackifier has excellent heat resistance, hue, weather resistance, and the like and has such excellent characteristics that its odor is weak.
Abstract: A process for producing a plastic lens having a high refractive index and profile regularity which includes forming a mixture of one or more of sulfur-containing aromatic polyisocyanate compounds, one or more of active hydrogen compounds selected from the group consisting of polyol compounds and polythiol compounds, and at least one internal mold releasing agent. Then subjecting the resulting mixture to casting polymerization, to form the plastic lens.
Abstract: There is provided a liquid oxidatively modified ethylenic random copolymer, which is an oxidatively modified product of a liquid ethylenic random coplymer comprising 20 to 80 mol % of ethylene and 80 to 20 mol % of .alpha.-olefin, and has (i) a number average molecular weight (Mn) in the range of from 200 to 10,000, (ii) a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) given as weight average molecular weight (Mw) divided by number average molecular weight (Mn) in the range of up to 4, and (iii) an oxygen content of from 0.1 to 20% by weight, an acid value of from 0.1 to 50, and a saponification value of from 0.1 to 100. It is prepared by contacting a corresponding ethylenic random copolymer with oxygen-containing gas at 100.degree.-250.degree. C.
Abstract: A novel aromatic bismaleimide of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein X is ##STR2## where R.sub.1 R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are a hydrogen atom or a methyl group. The bismaleimide is prepared by reacting an aromatic diamine having the formula (II): ##STR3## wherein X is the same as in the formula (I), with maleic anhydride and then conducting the ring-closing reaction of the resultant aromatic bismaleamic acid.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a refining process for removing impurities from 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI) by the use of a composite salt; and a process for preparing an aromatic polyamide having a high polymerization degree from an aromatic diisocyanate and an aromatic dicarboxylic acid by using, as a reaction solvent, DMI purified by the above-mentioned process.

Abstract: A composite abrasive-articles according to the present invention is obtained by: mixing diamond pieces of abrasive articles or cubic boron nitride pieces of abrasive articles and metal powder, molding this mixture into a uniformed small piece of abrasive articles, then or simultaneously with this molding, completely sintering the uniform small piece of abrasive articles after the molding, and mixing the completely sintered piece of abrasive articles after the sintering with resin, metal or glass of a low melting point so as to be solidified into a predetermined shape. In the composite abrasive-article of this type, the completely sintered piece of abrasion articles made of the diamond pieces of abrasion articles or cubic boron nitride piece of abrasive articles and metal powder is dispersed and solidified in a matrix made of either resin, metal, or glass having a low melting point. The composite abrasive-articles are preferably used for grinding, polishing, and/or cutting metal, ceramics, stone, or the like.
Abstract: An improvement is made in terms of rolling of a semi-submerged glass boat whose hull is formed of the main hull and float tanks provided on the lateral sides of the upper part of the main hull, and anti-rolling fins each projecting outside of a straight line connecting the outer end part of the bottom of the float tank and the outer end part of the bottom of the main hull are provided on the opposite sides of the main hull respectively.

Abstract: A water-base paint for coating the inside surface of a metallic can, said paint comprising fine particles of a polyester resin dispersed in an aqueous medium in the presence of a surface-active agent, wherein(A) the polyester resin comprises units derived from a dicarboxylic acid and units derived from a diol, the units derived from the dicarboxylic acid containing units derived from terephthalic acid and units derived from isophthalic acid in a mole ratio of from 10:90 to 80:20, and at least 30 mole % of the units derived from the diol being derived from ethylene glycol,(B) the surface-active agent is composed of at least one compound selected from alkylaryl sulfonic acid salts, alkylsulfonic acid salts, dialkylsulfosuccinic acid salts, alkylphosphoric acid salts, polyoxyethylene alkylarylether sulfonic acid salts and polyoxyethylene alkylether sulfonic acid salts, and(C) the fine particles of the polyester resin have an average particle diameter of not more than 3 microns.
Abstract: A miniature motor having a positive-coefficient thermistor in which a first supporting member made of an electrically conductive material and electrically connected to at least any one of a pair of brushes housed in a motor cover plate, and a second supporting member made of an electrically conductive material and electrically connected to an external terminal are provided; a positive-coefficient thermistor being supported between the first and second supporting members.This construction makes the assembly of the motor easy, leading to improved productivity, and allows the motor to have a positive overheat preventing function without adding to the number of parts.
