  • Patent number: 5033593
Abstract: This invention relates to a reinforcement member to be mounted internally in the doors of an automobile, and more particularly to the member comprising two parallel flat members and one or two corrugated members which connect said two parallel members in such a manner as to position the ridges of folds thereof perpendicular to the surfaces of the plate members. The reinforcement member is mounted internally in car doors. When the car receives an impact from the side of the door, the corrugated surfaces of the member can distribute the impact evenly by deforming themselves into a fan-like shape to thereby prevent the door from being abruptly folded at one point.

  • Patent number: 5034177
Abstract: A crystalline saturated polyester resin such as polyethylene terephthalate, is molded into a desired shape in a molding machine under conditions such that the crystallization temperature of the resulting molded article is within 20.degree. C. of the crystallization temperature of the starting saturated crystalline polyester resin. This is accomplished by preheating the resin in the molding apparatus to a temperature above its melting point to lower the viscosity of the resin to such an extent that the resin is not substantially degraded in the compression section of the molding machine. By avoiding reductions in the crystallization temperature of the molded resin, the resin can be shaped by, for example, blow molding into a bottle or other configuration while satisfying simultaneously the requirements for transparency and dimensional stability.

Abstract: A purification process for methyl methacrylate (MMA) and a recovery process for methanol are disclosed. A mixture, which contains water, methanol and methyl methacrylate (MMA) as principal components along with at least one of methyl acrylate, methyl propionate and methacrylic acid, is azeotropically distilled together with hexane to obtain MMA in a form substantially free of water, methanol methyl acrylate, methyl propionate and hexane and a low boiling-point fraction. The low boiling-point fraction is cooled and separated into a water phase and an oil phase. Methanol can be recovered from the water phase by adding an alkaline substance to it and then distilling the resultant mixture. A preparation process of MMA is also disclosed. MMA can be prepared by esterifying methacrylic acid or methacrylamide with methanol and then applying the above purification process.
