    Abstract: Lactam-blocked products of alicyclic isocyanates are obtained by blocking an aromatic isocyanate with lactam and subjecting the resulting blocked product to catalytic hydrogenation with use of a Rh catalyst.The blocked alicyclic isocyanate obtained thus can be used, for example, as a curing agent for synthetic resins such as epoxy resins or as a starting material of urethane coatings.The blocked isocyanate, if desired, may be subject to distillation whereby an alicyclic isocyanate is isolated by thermal dissociation and separation of the blocking agent.

    Abstract: A surface treating agent for fabricated articles of polyolefins which is composed of an organic solvent solution of a modified polymer resulting from the graft copolymerization of a propylene-ethylene copolymer with maleic acid or maleic anhydride. The propylene-ethylene copolymer has a propylene content of 50 to 75 mole % and a crystallinity determined by an X-ray diffraction method of 2 to 20%. The amount of maleic acid or maleic anhydride grafted is 0.5 to 15% by weight. The modified polymer has an intrinsic viscosity of at least 0.3, and is dissolved in the organic solvent in a concentration of 10 to 100 kg/m.sup.3 of solvent. The treating agent is suitable as an undercoat of the polyolefin articles and permits coating of a paint with markedly improved adhesion.

    Abstract: A process for producing an ethylene copolymer having a density of from 0.900 to 0.945 g/cm.sup.3 by copolymerizing in two steps a predominant amount of ethylene with a minor amount of an alpha-olefin containing at least 3 carbon atoms at room temperature to not more than about 100.degree. C. under a pressure of about 1 to about 100 kg/cm.sup.2 in the presence of a catalyst composed of (A) a titanium catalyst component supported on a magnesium compound and (B) an organoaluminum compound; characterized in that said copolymerization is carried out in(i) a first step where about 0.01 to about 50 g, per gram of the titanium catalyst component (A), of the alpha-olefin containing at least 3 carbon atoms is polymerized, said catalyst further comprising an organic acid ester (C), and then(ii) a second step where the final product of ethylene copolymer is formed in an amount more than about 100 times the weight of the polymer formed in the first step.

    Abstract: A process for the production of a corrosion resistant metallic article having a matt nacreous appearance and the resultant article. The process comprises the steps of coating a metallic substrate with a clear paint comprising a curable resin vehicle and a flaky nacreous pigment having a colorless transparent appearance selected from oxides and salts of elements of Groups IV and V of the Periodic Table, to form on the metallic substrate a clear paint coating having a finely undulated surface in which the nacreous pigment is arranged in a non-laurellate fashion, and then curing the paint coating on the metallic substrate to produce the metallic article. The metallic substrate is preferably zinc or zonc alloy which is chemically treated to form a colorless, transparent corrosion-resistant film thereon prior to coating with the clear paint.

    Abstract: A method of making a polypropylene printing plate using a paper matrix in which a roll and an opposing member are prepared, a paper matrix is attached to one of the roll and opposing member, a crystalline ethylene-propylene copolymer having a MFI (melt flow index) of 3.about.10, containing ethylene less than 20% by weight and tensile yield strength of 220.about.330 kg/cm.sup.2 is continuously fed under molten state between the roll and the opposing member, and then the crystalline ethylene-propylene copolymer is pressed and cooled to be hardened.Further, a reproducing printing plates consists of a crystalline ethylene-propylene copolymer whose melt flow index is selected in a range of 3.about.10, which contains ethylene less than 20 weight % and which has the tensile yield strength of 220.about.330 kg/cm.sup.2.

    Abstract: A reinforcing material for hydraulic substances such as cement, mortar, concrete or the like consists essentially of an elongated product of a synthetic resin having protrusions on its surface and which was obtained by extruding and subsequent stretching. The material produced by a method comprising mixing a polyethylene having a melt index of not more than 0.01 at 190.degree. C. under a load of 2.16 Kg with a polyethylene having a melt index of more than 0.01 thereby to obtain a polyethylene mixture having a melt index of 0.01 to 10, melt-extruding the polyethylene mixture under such conditions as to give an extruded product having a jagged surface and stretching the extruded product, whereby the reinforcing material having protrusions on its surface is obtained. Hydraulic substances with the reinforcing material incorporated therein are useful for production of concrete panels, concrete pipe, concrete channels, tetrapods, sleepers, tunnels, etc.

    Abstract: N-(hydroxyphenyl) maleimides of the general formula ##STR1## where R' stands for H, CH.sub.3, C.sub.2 H.sub.5, F, Cl, Br or I and n is an integer of 1-5 are produced by treating the corresponding maleamic acid or by treating the ester of said N-(hydroxyphenyl) maleimide at a temperature of 0.degree.-150.degree. C. in the presence of at least one dehydrating agent selected for the group consisting of oxides and oxyacids of sulfur or phosphorus and alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts of the said oxyacids. The corresponding maleamic acid can be obtained by reacting an aminophenol having one or more hydroxyl groups on its phenyl nucleus with maleic anhydride. The esters of the N-(hydroxyphenyl maleimide) can be obtained by reacting said aminophenol and said maleic anhydride in the presence of a conventional acid anhydride dehydrating agent and a conventional imide-forming cyclization catalyst.

    Abstract: A high-speed bevel gear transmission system for transmitting power from an input shaft to a pair of parallel outputs shafts the axes of which intersect each other. The input shaft has a pair of driving bevel gears which are fixedly mounted thereon such that the driving bevel gears face in opposite directions and which have the same number and size of teeth spirally arranged in the opposite directions each other. The output shafts are supported on angular contact ball bearings and have two driven bevel gears fixedly mounted thereon which are engaged with the driving bevel gears. The speed transmission ratio of the output shafts to the input shaft is 1.45:1 to 0.476:0.1, the relation between a pressure angle .alpha. and helix angle .beta. of the driving bevel gears and driven bevel gears, and a pitch cone angle .delta. of the driven bevel gears are defined by the formula, R=[(tan.alpha..multidot.sin .delta.)/cos .beta.]-tan.beta..multidot. cos .delta. when 0.324.ltoreq.R.ltoreq.0.1.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a process for the preparation of aromatic hydroperoxides comprising contacting two liquid phases comprising an oily phase containing an aromatic compound having a secondary alkyl group and a basic aqueous phase under agitation with a molecular oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a copper compound catalyst such as an inorganic salt or organic acid salt of copper, thereby to oxidize the aromatic compound to a corresponding aromatic hydroperoxide, wherein the liquid phase catalytic oxidation is carried out while maintaining the catalyst concentration in the liquid phases at 0.005 to 10 ppm as the copper atom and the pH value of the basic aqueous phase at 7.6 to 10. According to this process, by adoption of the above-mentioned specific catalyst concentration and pH value in combination, the rate of oxidation of the aromatic compound is increased and the selectivity to the hydroperoxide is improved.
