  • Patent number: 4213226
Abstract: This invention relates to a pivot bushing for casters and in which the stem for associating the caster with an article it is to support, is mounted. The bushing preferably is non-metallic and fits into the caster stem mount with a close fit for at least a portion of its depth with a clearance fit in the lower area where the stem must pass beyond an annular shoulder in the bushing for retention. The bushing has a fully closed lower end for retaining grease used to lubricate the stem for rotation in the bushing. The upper end of the bushing includes an integral cap-like enclosure, or shroud, which overlies the top end of the tube for mounting the bushing and stem in a caster and which lends a finished appearance in this area. A vertical exterior bead on one side of the bushing serves to engage a seam in the mounting tube to position the bushing properly relative to the caster.

  • Patent number: 4212738
Abstract: A flexible artificial kidney, capable of being worn directly on the body of the patient, and characterized by a flexible hollow retentate chamber of about 3 to 50 cm.sup.3 in volume surrounded by a jacketed flexible dialysate chamber of about 300 to 5,000 cm.sup.3 in volume, preferably such that the dialysate chamber is at least about 100 times larger than the retentate chamber. Blood inlet and outlet lines to and from the retentate chamber are passed in fluid tight relationship through the jacketed wall of the dialysate chamber which in turn has a closable opening for filling and discharging the dialysate liquid. This artificial kidney is especially effective when adsorbent materials are added to the liquid in the dialysate chamber.

  • Patent number: 4212092
Abstract: A castor wheel assembly for chairs and the like is disclosed in which the wheel axle and hub are permitted a limited vertical stroke in a slot, a vertically arranged spring being active against the peripheral surface of the axle so that, when the chair is unloaded, the springs of the wheels urge the latter down so that the hubs may engage a friction surface. When the user seats on the chair, the springs are compressed and the rotation of the wheels is unhindered. The total force of the springs in a chair shall overcome the chair's own weight.

  • Patent number: 4211283
Abstract: A soil working member is journalled in the bottom of an elongated implement frame portion and driven to rotate about an upwardly extending axis. The member includes a horizontal support, that normally is rotated adjacent the frame portion bottom, and tines depend from the support. Each tine extends through the support to a fastening, such as a nut, adjacent an upwardly extending screen. The space between the screen and the fastening is occupied by a protective element, such as a cap or a rib, that prevents stones or other hard debris, from lodging in the space and damaging the bottom of the frame portion and/or support. Cooperating strips can be secured to the frame portion bottom to cooperate with the elements.

  • Patent number: 4210816
Abstract: A film cassette unloading apparatus comprises a cassette positioning mechanism located in a light-tight housing. Within the housing is provided a platform onto which the cassette is placed bottom side up. An unlocking mechanism, adapted for the particular type of cassette unlocks same. Then, an opening mechanism engages the rim of the bottom part and lifts the bottom part in upward direction, thereby performing a partial rotation around the hinge-point of the cassette. By mounting the platform in inclined position, the film which is contained in the cassette, falls out of the latter by gravity.

  • Patent number: 4210550
Abstract: The present invention relates to a detergent composition containing one or more surfactants, an alkali carbonate and an acid, and in which detergent composition the acidic and the alkaline constituent are separately present, the acidic constituent having a higher rate of solubility in a wash liquor than the alkaline constituent, and the total amount of alkali being present in excess relative to the amount of acid. Characteristic of the invention is that the acidic constituent of the detergent composition contains 5 to 30 per cent by weight, calculated on the total amount of detergent composition, of one or more acids having the formula:HOOC--(CH.sub.2).sub.n --COOH,where n is 2,3, or 4It is preferred that the acidic constituent should contain a mixture consisting of 20 to 40 per cent by weight of adipic acid, 20 to 40 per cent by weight of succinic and 20 to 60 per cent by weight of glutaric acid.

  • Patent number: 4210078
Abstract: A mechanism for sorting sheets from a printing press to assure proper color density and to assist in making corrective adjustment which includes a main conveyor for normally conducting sheets to a main delivery pile and having a transfer station. An auxiliary conveyor extends from the transfer station to an auxiliary delivery pile. A scanning device is arranged upstream of the main conveyor for responding to the color density of the printed image on a passing sheet. A comparator produces a control signal when the color density is above or below tolerance, signifying a sub-quality sheet. Mechanism at the transfer station is triggered by the control signal so that the sub-quality sheet is diverted to the auxiliary conveyor for depositing on the auxiliary pile. The mechanism not only accomplishes sorting but the fact of diversion and the observed rate of diversion provides constant instruction to the pressman as to the necessity for, and the degree of, a corrective change in ink feed rate.
