Patent number: 10855912Abstract: A method and apparatus for capturing stable images are disclosed. An ambient light sensor makes measurements of ambient light. A change in ambient light between two measurements is determined. If the change in ambient light measurements falls in a predefined range, then the change may be attributable to ambient light sensor being blocked by a user to trigger image capturing. Consequently, a camera is triggered to capture an image. Conversely, if the change in ambient light measurement is outside the range, image capturing is not triggered as the change may be attributable to other factors.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 2018Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: STMicroelectronics International N.V.Inventor: Rosarium Pila

Patent number: 10854063Abstract: Techniques are described herein for monitoring activities of organisms, including sleep. In various embodiments, logic (116) may receive, from a first sensor (106) adapted to detect activity in a first area (104), signal(s) indicating activity of an organism. Based on these signal(s), the logic may identify (504) a first time at which the organism transitions into a first state. The logic may later receive (508), from a second sensor (110, 114) adapted to detect activity in a second area (108, 112), signal(s) indicative of activity in the second area. Based on these subsequent signal(s), the logic may identify (510) a second time that is after the first time, determine (512) whether the first sensor provided signal(s) indicative of activity in the first area within another time interval preceding the second time, and selectively store (514) an indication of transition of the organism into a second state based on the determination.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2018Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.Inventor: Warner Rudolph Theophile Ten Kate

Patent number: 10849679Abstract: The invention relates to a heat sink parameter determination apparatus for determining a parameter of a heat sink like a blood vessel within an object such as a person (3) by minimizing a deviation between a measured temperature distribution, which has preferentially been measured by ultrasound thermometry, and a modeled temperature distribution, wherein the modeled temperature distribution is modeled based on a provided heat source parameter like the location of an ablation needle (2) and the heat sink parameter to be determined by using a given thermal model. This determination of heat sink parameters, which may be geometric and/or flow parameters, considers the real temperature distribution and is thus based on real heat sink influences on the temperature distribution. This can lead to an improved determination of heat sink parameters and hence to a more accurate temperature distribution which may be determined based on the determined heat sink parameters.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 2015Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.Inventors: Ajay Anand, Shriram Sethuraman, Sheng-Wen Huang, Junbo Li

Patent number: 10849566Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus, a system (100), a method (200), and a computer program for assessing the risk of an exacerbation and/or hospitalization. A patient's physical activity is measured (e.g., by an accelerometer (110)) during an active period of time (e.g., during awake hours) and during a rest period of time (e.g., during sleep hours) to gather first and second activity data. A risk of exacerbation and/or hospitalization is assessed (e.g., by a risk assessment unit (120)) based on an expression involving the respective activity data during active and rest periods fulfilling a predetermined relationship with respect to a predetermined activity level. For instance, low activity data during active periods and high activity data during rest periods indicates an increased risk of exacerbation and/or hospital readmission for the patient.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 2015Date of Patent: December 1, 2020Assignee: KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS N.V.Inventors: Tamara Mathea Elisabeth Nijsen, Chevone Marie Barretto, Choo Chiap Chiau, Mareike Klee
