  • Patent number: 6353638
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a system for digital signal transmission. In this method, a signal is encoded in order to minimize transmission errors on a transmission channel, and the encoded signal is sent through at least two base stations. A user equipment then receives the encoded signal and the coding of the received signal is decoded. The method is in accordance with the invention characterized in that the encoded signal is divided into separate signal parts having at least partly different contents. Then a specific signal part is indicated for each base station, and the base stations send their specific signal parts. In reception, the information in the received signal parts is combined.

  • Patent number: 6351189
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for auto-biasing an amplifier. The auto-bias system of the present invention has an auto-bias feedback loop that adjusts the bias condition of an amplifier to a wanted state between transmission periods. The system monitors a physical quantity indicative of the operating state of the amplifier and controls the amplifier bias so as to control the amplifier operating point sufficiently to compensate for variations in amplifier electrical characteristics, amplifier load, amplifier temperature, and input signals. The system further adjusts the amplifier operating point based on the modulation scheme used to modulate information included in an input signal provided to amplifier, thereby allowing the amplifier to operate in any one of multiple signal modulation systems.

  • Patent number: 6347138
Abstract: The present invention relates to a procedure for ensuring the activation of a V5 interface formed between a local exchange and an access node. According to the invention, the checking of the operational condition of the primary and secondary links is started simultaneously both on the local exchange side and on the access node side, and if a confirmation indicating that the link is operational is received for the secondary link first, then a switchover of the primary link to the secondary link according to the V5 definitions is performed and the new primary link is used for protection in the V5 interface during the V5 interface activation process. The invention makes it possible to avoid unnecessary interruptions of activation during the V5 interface activation procedure.

  • Patent number: 6347311
Abstract: When implementing services compiled of service independent building blocks (SIB) in an intelligent network, the SIB parameters to be relayed in computer instructions are replaced with a global data structure, whereby no parameters at all are transferred in the instruction call. Having no parameters means that each SIB receives the parameters it needs from one global variable. The global variable is visible to all SIBs, whereby each individual SIB fetches the parameters it requires from it. As regards some SIBs it is rather certain that they will remain unchanged and thus really service independent, but for some there is no such certainty, and for this reason the SIBs may be divided logically into two groups: assisting and performing SIBs respectively. Parameters of the performing SIBs are not relayed in the sub-programme call, but in one or several global data structure variables.

  • Publication number: 20020014983
Abstract: Simplifying functions representing raised sine or cosine curves to functions representing simple sine or cosine curves makes it possible to implement an electrical equivalent circuit for a ramp generator. The core of the ramp generator with an output power level controller is second-order direct-form feedback structure (60), which forms a digital sinusoidal oscillator. The initial values of two state variables x2(n), x2(n+1) of the oscillator are chosen so that they both contain a predetermined first constant value. This first constant value will emerge as the amplitude value of the pure sine wave generated by the oscillator. Particularly the first constant value is equal to the desired nominal level A of the ramp minus the starting level. A second constant value (A+dc) is added to the oscillator output. The added result is scaled (66) so that the nominal power level is A. A multiplexer (67) keeps the power level between the ramps constant.

  • Publication number: 20020012148
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for compensating signal dispersion in an optical communication network and to an optical communication network. The dispersion compensation is carried out by constructing the network in such a way that a route having an even number of phase conjugating means can be found between any two nodes. The routing is primarily made along a route in which there is the minimum even number of phase conjugating means between the terminal nodes. A preferred embodiment of the invention is a ring network constructed of two concentric rings in such a way that both rings comprise the same node points, but the number of phase conjugating means to be installed in said rings, in the optical fibers between adjacent nodes is, for example, even in the outer ring and odd in the inner ring.

  • Patent number: 6333676
Abstract: The invention relates to a control method and a control arrangement which comprises a feedforward power amplifier (10), which receives and amplifies a signal and which on amplifying the signal causes non-linearities to the signal. The control arrangement also comprises adjusting members (50, 80) and adaptation means (110, 130), which form an adaptation factor and control the operation of the adjusting means (50, 80) by means of the adaptation factor by adapting the amplitudes and phases of signal propagating along different signal paths to one another. The control arrangement further comprises control means (120), which produce information of the gain required by the power amplifier (10), said control means (120) ordering the adaptation means (110, 130) to adjust the adaptation factor in advance on the basis of the received information to correspond to the gain of the power amplifier (10), which enables adaptation of the signal also when the input power level changes rapidly.
