Abstract: Thin walled polyethylene containers are suitable for the packaging of foods such as cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and ice cream. The containers have a higher softening point (which permits the containers to be “hot filled”) and high impact strength at low temperature (which is useful when a container of ice cream is dropped).

Abstract: A variable acuity imager incorporates an array of detection elements for light energy, in the visible, infrared, ultraviolet, or light energy in another region of the electromagnetic spectrum with a means to change the spatial configuration of the array to include “superpixels” by combining energy detected by adjacent elements, thus permitting any number of high-resolution “foveal” regions to be placed within the confines of the focal plane array and moved around at the frame rate of the imaging device. Detectors to measure the pitch, yaw and roll angle rates of background imagery using velocity-sensing circuitry are employed for variation of the foveal regions to accommodate motion of the array.

Abstract: An improved tough, transparent polymer alloy comprised of 90 to 20 weight percent of a brittle polymer with a weight average molecular weight greater than 180,000; 0 to 60 weight percent of a rubbery polymer; 0 to 80 weight percent of a ductile polymer; and between greater than 0.4, i.e. between 0.5 and 3 weight percent of a plasticizer, i.e. mineral oil which resides in the brittle polymer. The brittle polymer can have molecular weights between 220,000 and 300,000, and may be as high as 400,000. In one of the preferred embodiments the brittle polymer is a copolymer of styrene and methyl methacrylate which copolymer ranges between 50 and 55 weight percent, the rubbery polymer is 0 weight percent, the ductile polymer is a styrene butadiene block copolymer ranging between 45 and 50 weight percent, and the mineral oil is 1.5 weight percent. Notched IZOD impact strength ranges between 1.0 to 6.0 ft-lb./in., preferably between 2.0 and 4.5 ft-lb./in. The haze can be less than 1.5% or it can be between 1 and 4%.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an integrated apparatus for monitoring wafers and for process control in the semiconductor manufacturing process, by means of at least two different measurements that can be installed inside any part of the semiconductor production line, i.e., inside the photocluster equipment, the CVD equipment or the CMP equipment. The apparatus comprises a measuring unit for performing at least one optical measurement in predetermined sites on said wafer, illumination sources for illuminating said wafer via measuring unit, supporting means for holding, rotating and translating the wafer and a control unit. The measuring unit comprises: at least two measuring sub-units, one of them being normal-incidence optical measuring system.
Abstract: A supported catalyst for olefin polymerization comprises a combination of a sulfated metal oxide support, an aluminoxane and an organometallic complex of a group 4 metal. The sulfated metal oxide may be quickly and conveniently prepared by, for example, contacting the precursor metal oxide with a sulfuric acid. The supported catalyst of this invention is highly active for olefin polymerization in comparison to conventional catalysts which are prepared with non-sulfated supports.

Abstract: Novel polyethylene copolymer compositions prepared with a homogeneous catalyst system are characterized by having a unique high molecular weight, low comonomer (high density) fraction. These heterogeneous/homogeneous compositions may be prepared using a solution polymerization process in Which the polymerization reactor contains a gradient in temperature, catalyst concentration or monomer concentration. The heterogeneous/homogeneous compositions of this invention are easily processed into films having excellent tear strengths and low hexane extractables.

Abstract: A supported catalyst for olefin polymerization comprises a combination of a novel metal oxide support and an activator which is an aluminoxane or a boron activator. The novel metal oxide support of this invention is a conventional particulate metal oxide support material (such as silica or alumina) which has been treated with a halosulfonic acid. A catalyst system which contains this novel catalyst support and a transition metal catalyst is highly active for olefin polymerization (in comparison to prior art catalyst systems which use a conventional metal oxide support).

Abstract: A mounting method and a mounting apparatus to enable the level mounting of a first article to a second article. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, an apparatus for mounting a first article to a second article to permit the level mounting of the first article comprises a bracket for fixed attachment to the second article, the bracket configured to receive the first article. The bracket has a level built into it, such that the bracket is installed such that the first article when mounted to said bracket is level.
Abstract: The present invention provides a process to create without mechanical agitation a zone of low shear, low turbulence flow pattern within a continuous phase liquid contained in a vessel by a continuous or periodic injection of an inert, immiscible, low density fluid, preferably gas, into the liquid to form such a flow pattern, recovering the fluid above the free surface of the liquid and, preferably, reinjecting it into the liquid. The invention is particularly useful if the continuous liquid contains a dispersed phase which should be distributed within the continuous liquid without excessive particle agglomeration or breakups in order to largely preserve the initial particle size distribution, or if the initial particle size distribution needs to be modified by controlled breakups of the largest particles, particularly during the subsequent batch processing.

Abstract: By controlling the hold up times, concentrations and temperatures for mixing the components of aluminum, titanium and magnesium based catalyst for solution polymerization it is possible to prepare a catalyst having a high activity, which prepares high molecular weight polyolefins. Generally, a catalyst loses activity and produces lower molecular weight polymer at higher temperatures. The catalyst of the present invention permits comparable polymers to be produced with higher catalyst activity and at higher reaction temperatures by increasing the concentration of the components used during the preparation of the catalyst.

Abstract: A multi-channel integrated circuit is provided in which each channel has an analog section and a digital section. Each channel of the readout chip employs low noise charge sensitive amplifier at its input followed by other circuitry such as shaper, pole-zero, peak hold, different comparators, buffers and digital control and readout. Each channel produces a self-trigger and a fast timing output. Channel-to-channel time differences are also recorded. Integrated circuit also provides a large dynamic range to facilitate large range of applications. The trigger threshold can be adjusted to provide energy discrimination. The chip has different, externally selectable, operational modes including a sparse readout mode in which only the channels which have received signals greater than a preselected threshold value are read out. The sparse readout mode results in increased data throughput, thus providing fast data acquisition capabilities.
Abstract: In an ion implantation apparatus, a reduction of an energy contanimination is achieved when ions are implanted into a wafer with a low energy. A beam transportation efficiency between mutually different positions on a beam line correlates with the energy contamination of the wafer, and the beam transportation efficiency is adjusted so that the energy contamination becomes small. Since the beam transportation efficiency is obtained by measuring a beam electric current at each position, the beam transportation efficiency can be obtained before the ions are implanted into the wafer.
Abstract: A method and system are presented for inspecting a structure containing a pattern in the form of a surface relief fabricated by a pattern-creating tool applied to the structure. Reference data is provided being indicative of photometric intensities of light components of different wavelengths returned from a structure having a pattern similar to the pattern of the structure under inspection. Spectrophotometric measurements are continuously applied to successive locations within the surface relief on the structure so as to form a measurement slice thereon. Measured data in the form of a spectrum indicative of photometric intensities of light components of different wavelengths returned from the successive locations within the slice is detected and analyzed to determine whether it correlates with the reference data in accordance with predetermined criteria results.
