Abstract: The method of the present invention is used to join two dissimilar materials together, and particularly to transfer a film to a substrate when the difference in thermal expansion coefficients between the film and the substrate is very big. A hydrophilic surface is created on one material and an atmosphere reactive metal element is deposited on the surface of another material. When the materials are tightly contacted, with the reactive element pressed against the hydrophilic surface, the reactive metal element reacts with the moisture from the hydrophilic surface at room temperature. Strong bonds form during the reaction joining the two materials together. Because the procedure takes place at room temperature, extremely low stress is built in. The film joining is successful even with a big thermal expansion coefficient difference between the materials, such as exist between GaAs and silicon and between silicon and sapphire.

  • Patent number: 6376814
Abstract: An insulating support structure for a helical wire heating coil for an electric resistance heating element includes a plurality of insulating standoff members supported by a metallic support frame. The insulating standoffs each include a pair of wedge portions that are used to separate the individual convolutions of the helical wire heating coil. Located inwardly from each of the wedge portions are a pair of V-shaped coil grooves sized to receive a portion of an individual convolution of the helical wire heating coil. A retainer tab extends into and forms one surface of the coil groove such that the wire heating coil contacts the retainer tab and a pair of contact surfaces that define the coil groove. The insulating standoffs are each supported by an arm contained on the support frame. Each of the arms includes a pair of tines which combine to form an open slot within the arm. The insulating standoff is captured between the tines by a pair of locking projections on the outer end of the tines.

  • Patent number: 6372864
Abstract: A dual reactor process for the solution (co)polymerization of ethylene uses a catalyst having a phosphinimine ligand in each of the two reactors. In a preferred embodiment, the two reactors are operated at different temperatures and/or with different cocatalyst systems (such as “alumoxanes” and “ionic activators”) for the preparation of linear low density polyethylene (“LLPDE”) having a broad molecular weight distribution. Certain LLDPE polymers of this invention have an outstanding balance of physical properties (high dart impact strength and tear strength) excellent optical properties and excellent processability.

  • Publication number: 20020033450
Abstract: A method and system are presented for inspecting a structure containing a pattern in the form of a surface relief fabricated by a pattern-creating tool applied to the structure. Reference data is provided being indicative of photometric intensities of light components of different wavelengths returned from a structure having a pattern similar to the pattern of the structure under inspection. Spectrophotometric measurements are continuously applied to successive locations within the surface relief on the structure so as to form a measurement slice thereon. Measured data in the form of a spectrum indicative of photometric intensities of light components of different wavelengths returned from the successive locations within the slice is detected and analyzed to determine whether it correlates with the reference data in accordance with predetermined criteria results.

  • Patent number: 6343672
Abstract: The present invention relates to a noise suppressor capable of reducing the noise of a fluid vented at high pressure and high mass flow rate from an industrial source, to the environmentally acceptable noise level. The invention combines two principles of dissipation of fluid stream energy: first, stream pressure is reduced by passing the stream through a swirler to split the stream into a number of smaller tangential streams which dissipate their energy along the spiral flow path due to friction; and next, the resulting streams pass through a tightly packed granular bed to reduce further the pressure and velocity of the exiting jet to atmospheric pressure and subsonic velocity, respectively. Such jet will generate much lower noise level, as compared to high pressure jet with cellular structure and supersonic velocity.
