  • Publication number: 20030017354
Abstract: A plastic film having a desirable balance of physical properties is prepared using a pseudohomogeneous linear low density polyethylene (lldpe) resin on a blown film extrusion line. The lldpe used in this invention must have a melt index, I2, of from 0.4 to 0.8 grams per 10 minutes, a base resin density of from 0.915 to 0.919 grams per cubic centimeter and a copolymer/homopolymer (COHO) ratio of from 3 to 9. The film must be prepared under specific extrusion conditions using a specific annular extrusion die. The film of this invention has a dart impact strength of greater than 600 grams per mil and a machine direction tear strength of greater than 350 grams per mil and is suitable for the preparation of packaging and trash bags.

  • Publication number: 20030004288
Abstract: A solution polymerization process using a phosphinimine catalyst and a boron activator is conducted at a temperature of about 170° C. or greater in the presence of trialkyl aluminum to produce polyethylene having a comparatively broad molecular weight distribution. The polyethylene product produced by the process of this invention is desirable because it can provide enhanced “processability” in comparison to polyethylene having a narrow molecular weight distribution. The process of this invention is advantageous in comparison to prior art processes for the preparation of “broad” polyethylene which use two polymerization reactors and/or more than one polymerization catalyst. The polymers produced by the process of this invention are potentially suitable for the preparation of plastic film. For example, a polyethylene according to this invention and having a density of about 0.

  • Patent number: 6501274
Abstract: A magnetic resonance imaging system comprises: a housing providing a medical diagnostic chamber for a subject therewithin lying along an axis. The housing contains: a transmit/receive inductor system having a coil about the axis in proximity with the housing, a gradient inductor system having a coil operatively associated with the transmit/receive inductor system, and a field inductor system having a coil operatively associated with the transmit/receive inductor system. The field coil establishes a supervening field about the entire system. The gradient coil initiates perturbations in the fields and produces signals derived responsively from the perturbations. The transmit/receive coil includes a series of electrical transmission line elements paraxially distributed with respect to the axis about the subject. Each transmission line element includes an outer conductor and an inner conductor spaced radially from the outer conductor relative to the axis.

  • Publication number: 20020179854
Abstract: In an ion implantation apparatus according to the present invention, ions are extracted from an ion source with the aid of extraction electrodes. The ions thus extracted are analyzed in mass by means of a mass analysis magnet apparatus and a mass analysis slit, so that the required ions are implanted in a substrate. Magnets for generating cusp magnetic fields are serially disposed along an ion beam line extending from the front part to the rear part of the mass analysis magnet apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6486276
Abstract: A solution polymerization process for the preparation of elastomeric ethylene propylene (diene) elastomers is characterized by the use of a) an unbridged catalyst having a cyclopentadienyl ligand and a monosubstituted nitrogen ligand; and b) a boron activator. High molecular weight elastomers may be inexpensively prepared by the process of this invention. The elastomers are suitable for the manufacture of rubber sheets or membranes and automotive parts such as seals, belts, hoses and tire sidewalls.
