    Abstract: A linear drive comprises a hydraulic unit (1), a control valve (5) and an actuating drive (9) with an actuating member (7). These elements are interconnected by means of two inertia drive starters (4, 8), which results in a mechanically-induced return movement. The movement of the piston rod (15) of the hydraulic unit (1) is controlled in the actuating drive (9) by means of active elements (10, 35, 56) moved translationally in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the linear drive. The active elements (10, 35) and the actuating member (7) are connected without play in the axial direction but can counterrotate with respect to each other by means of a bearing (38). A lever (13) is arranged on the actuating member (7) and can be rotated together with the actuating member (7) about the axis (60). The lever (13) cooperates with a stop element (14) which can be adjusted by a rack (50) and which limits the rotation of the lever (13).

This forms, at the same time, the jacket surface of the core hollow space (6) which widens toward the open end (11) of the jacket body (5). At the open end (11) is a centrifuge ring (14) with a spray edge (23). The rotor (4) is set in rotation by the stream of air flowing in the direction of the arrows (30, 31), and mixes the fuel centrifuged from the spray edge (23) homogeneously with the air.

The seals include an outer seal and an inner dry gas seal. Pressurized process gas is supplied between these seals at a pressure higher than suction pressure and is vented from the inner gas space at a pressure well below suction pressure to limit gas pressure forces on the front end of the shaft.

    Abstract: Aromatic anhydride copolymers containing at least two aromatic diacid units, which are soluble in chloroform or dichloromethane to concentrations between approximately 0.5 to 50% weight/volume, melt at temperatures below 180.degree. C., and have low crystallinity are disclosed. The copolymers may contain between 0 and approximately 30% aliphatic diacid units. All copolymers are insoluble in carbon tetrachloride, i.e., less than 0.1% polymer by weight/volume solvent). The desired properties are the result of adding between 10 and 90% of a second aromatic diacid, to the copolymer composition which introduces irregularity in the polymer chains that dramatically alter the polymer properties, decreasing the crystallinity and melting point and increasing the solubility in the common solvents, dichloromethane or chloroform. An additional decrease in Tg and MP, with an increase in flexibility, is obtained by adding small amount of aliphatic diacid, up to about 30%.

    Abstract: A rechargeable battery is provided having positive and negative plates formed of flexible substantially solid sheets. The plates are each pasted with an active material and separated by a light weight absorbent separator. A light weight casing provides structural support for the plates and encases the battery's components. The battery is preferably a recombinant lead acid battery with its plates being formed of lead foil sheets. The casing is preferably reinforced to maintain a constant spacing between the plates by a plurality of support pins extending between upper and lower casing members through the plate sheets. Plates may be stacked one above another to provide a plurality of cells. In separate aspects of the invention, a battery may be formed having a polar plate that has positive and negative surfaces on its opposite sides. In another separate aspect of the invention a novel terminal arrangement is provided.

    Abstract: A sealed and pressure balanced lubricating system for high pressure rotary equipment includes a housing with a bore divided by a slidable piston into a lubricant chamber and a gas chamber. The gas chamber communicates with an area of the equipment which is exposed to high gas pressure and the lubricant chamber communicates with bearings within the equipment. During operation gas pressure forces the piston against the lubricant to pressure feed the bearings. A relief valve in the piston is opened, after the equipment stops and the pressure therein returns to atmospheric, in the event that pressurized gas has become entrained in the lubricant due to leakage past shaft seals. Such gas forces the piston back towards the gas chamber; the relief valve contacts an actuator and is opened; and the gas escapes to atmosphere through the piston and the gas chamber.
