Abstract: In the high pressure polymerization of ethylene homopolymers or copolymers, conditions in the high pressure recycle system may lead to the build-up of low molecular weight oligomers and waxes. Sequentially draining knock-out pots, located downstream of a high pressure separator, at regular intervals can reduce the build-up of low molecular weight oligomers and waxes during the high pressure polymerization of alpha olefins.

Abstract: The Application of equations of state to experimental and literature data permits the formation of a model and phase diagram(s) that show under what conditions polyethylene is likely to precipitate out of a high pressure solution of polyethylene in supercritical ethylene. This then permits a better definition to run a high pressure reactor to reduce the likelihood of phase separation, loss of cooling and potentially decomposition of the reactor contents.
Abstract: This invention provides a process for the stabilization of thermoplastic polyolefins during melt processing operations. The stabilizer package of this invention is “phenol free” and comprises at least two selected phosphite stabilizers. In some embodiments, the process is suitable for the manufacture of polyethylene film.

Abstract: A test structure is presented for use in metrology measurements of a sample pattern formed by periodicity of unit cells, each formed of pattern features arranged in a spaced-apart relationship along a pattern axis. The test structure comprises a test pattern, which is formed by a main pattern which includes main pattern features of one or more of the unit cells and has a symmetry plane, and a predetermined auxiliary pattern including at least two spaced apart auxiliary features located within at least some features of the main pattern, parameters of which are to be controlled during metrology measurements.
Abstract: In a stirred tank chemical reactor the mean age of the reactor contents affects a number of properties of the product, including for example the homogeneity of the product. The mean average age of the reactor contents can be determined by constructing a transparent model of the reactor and filling it with a fluid containing a fluorescent dye and having flow properties comparable to those of the reactor in use. A light is shone on the fluid as it is stirred under reaction conditions and a clear fluid flow into the model. Pictures are taken of the reactor contents and the mean fluid age of the contents of the model are determined relative to the exit age of the contents. This approach can be applied to determine for example which reactor ports to use, what agitator to use, what flow rates to use to improve reactor function.

Abstract: A method and system are presented for use in inspection of via containing structures. According to this technique, measured data indicative of a spectral response of a via-containing region of a structure under measurements is processed, and, upon identifying a change in at least one parameter of the spectral response with respect to a spectral signature of the via-containing region, output data is generated indicative of a possible defect at an inner surface of the via.

Abstract: In the operation of an oxidative dehydrogenation (ODH) process, it is desirable to remove oxygen in the product stream for a number of reasons, including to reduce oxidation of the product. This may be achieved by having several pre-reactors upstream of the main reactor having a catalyst system containing labile oxygen. The feed passes through one or more reactors saturated with labile oxygen. When the labile oxygen is consumed through a valve system, the pre-reactor accepts product from the main reactor and complexes reactive oxygen in the product stream until the catalyst system is saturated with labile oxygen. Then the reactor becomes a pre-reactor and another pre-reactor becomes a scavenger.

Abstract: Oxidative dehydrogenation of paraffins to olefins provides a lower energy route to produce olefins. Oxidative dehydrogenation processes may be integrated with a number of processes in a chemical plant such as polymerization processes, manufacture of glycols, and carboxylic acids and esters. Abstract: Polyethylene living hinges used in “snap top” lids for condiments and the like may be electron bean irradiated to partially crosslink the polyethylene to produce a hinge having an improvement in the number of opening and closing cycles until failure of not less than 30%. A semi-dense semi-upright growth habit is displayed.
