Abstract: A method of identifying a traced media playback decoder embedded in a device, wherein data representative of a trace message is included in the content field of a media content file and a trigger string (16) is included in the user data field of the file. The file is input to the decoder, and a traced decoder is arranged and configured to render the trace message in a desired format in response to detection of the trigger string. If the decoder is not the traced decoder, the trigger string will be disregarded and the component will try and process the media content file like a normal media content file, which results in an error.

Abstract: A planar audio tracking system comprises a square array of four microphones (M1, M2, M3, M4) arranged as first and second cross-dipole microphones and a virtually constructed monopole microphone. The signals from these microphones undergo directional pre-processing and the results are applied to a filtered sum beamformer (FSB) (32). The FSB identifies functions (hd (0), hd (?/2), and hm) of the FSB which are representative of impulse responses from desired audio source(s) to the first and second cross-dipole and the monopole microphone, respectively. The functions of the first cross-dipole and the monopole microphones and the functions of the second cross-dipole and the monopole microphones are cross correlated to produce respective estimates (?c(l) and ?s(l)) representative of the lag of the most dominant audio source. An angle-estimate ({circumflex over (?)}) of the most dominant source is determined using the estimates of lag.

Abstract: A phased array transmitter is disclosed comprising a vector modulator, a true time delay block coupled to the vector modulator, a local oscillator phase shifter and RF-converter block coupled to the true time delay block, and an antenna. The vector modulator applies vector modulation to a baseband signal and provides an intermediate frequency signal to the true time delay block. The true time delay block applies a true time delay to the intermediate frequency signal and provides a delayed intermediate frequency signal to the local oscillator phase shifter and RF-converter block. The local oscillator phase shifter and RF-converter block multiplies the delayed intermediate frequency signal by a local oscillator signal and applies a phase shift to the delayed intermediate frequency signal to provide a radio frequency signal to the antenna for onwards transmission.

Abstract: Data communications are effected over one or more network branches to ensure appropriate receipt of data at different devices on the network. In accordance with an example embodiment, time-based communications are effected for a plurality of different network devices, at least two of which are connected to a common wired network link, with each network device being assigned to communicate during different time slots within a communication cycle. Each communication received on the common wired network link is assessed as being error-indicative or not error-indicative. In response to a received communication on the common wired network link being assessed as being error-indicative, the common wired network link is operated to corrupt data received on the branch, such as by driving the branch during a time slot in which the error-indicative communication is received, therein ensuring that other network devices disregard the data received during that time slot.
