Abstract: Communication systems and methods for dynamically controlling the power wirelessly delivered by a remote reader unit to separate sensing device, such as a device adapted to monitor a physiological parameter within a living body, including but not limited to intraocular pressure, intracranial pressure (ICP), and cardiovascular pressures that can be measured to assist in diagnosing and monitoring various diseases. The communication method entails electromagnetically delivering power from at least one telemetry antenna within the reader unit to at least one telemetry antenna within the sensing device, and controlling the power supplied to the sensing device within a predetermined operating power level range of the sensing device.

Abstract: In a system of networked devices such as printers managed by a computer connected to them by a network, a method is described for executing device discovery and device status update at independent time intervals using a SNMP broadcast method while eliminating thread safety risk. Device discovery and status update are executed as subroutines within a main routine and each subroutine has its own decrement counter. The entire routine is repeated one cycle every time unit. In each cycle, the decrement counters are evaluated. If a counter is a positive value, the corresponding subroutine is skipped and the counter is decremented by one. If a counter is zero, the corresponding subroutine is executed and its counter is reset to the user-specified time interval afterwards.

Abstract: A system is provided for detecting the passage of vehicles and the classification thereof by weight using geophone outputs and a unique density measurement in which the number of peaks of the geophone signal above a predetermined threshold over a number of time frames indicates the presence of a vehicle, with the number of time frames in which the density exceeds the threshold indicating whether the vehicle is a heavy vehicle such as a tank, or a light vehicle such as a car, with the threshold eliminating both manmade and natural noise, as well as distinguishing seismic vibrations due to personnel and animals. In one embodiment, various thresholds are utilized to detect the onset of vehicle presence and the end of the event.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product are disclosed for performing RC extraction from the perspective of the block level. A translation mechanism is employed to convert from a full-chip design domain to a block-level design domain. This allows model-based prediction results to be used in the early design implementation flow when parasitic RC and timing extractions are performed, where the model-based prediction results relate to predictions of manufacturing variations such as thickness and topography.

Abstract: A fluorescent spectroscopic method and apparatus for real time direct detection of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies in central nervous system tissue by monitoring the fluorescence of intrinsic markers in the tissue by illuminating the tissue with UV or visible light having an appropriate wavelength, and the resulting emission spectra is detected and examined in the region from 350 to 650 nm. A higher intensity in this region is indicative of infected tissue. The apparatus and method would not interfere with existing slaughterhouse line speeds or procedures, and could be used on live animals.

Abstract: Devices, methods and kits for restricting a portion of a GI tract by tightening tissue are provided. The devices, methods and kits can be used to treat GERD or obesity. The devices, methods, and kits do not require the formation of plications in tissue walls and may result in faster application, reduced surgical trauma, reduced risk, and reduced cost. The devices comprise a plurality of tissue-engageable anchors coupled to a tether. Each anchor is secured to a tissue wall of the GI tract. The anchors are secured to the tissue wall in a manner that may minimize tissue damage. The tether is configured to be cinched to draw the anchors together, which in turn draws the tissue secured to the anchors together, thereby tightening tissue to restrict a portion of the GI tract.
