Patents Assigned to Owens Illinois Closure, Inc.
  • Patent number: 6602065
Abstract: Apparatus for compression molding plastic closures having a peripheral skirt with an internal thread includes a first mold assembly having a male mold core and a second mold assembly having a female mold cavity. At least one of the first and second mold assemblies is moved relative to the other to bring the male mold core into the female mold cavity for compression molding a closure, and then is moved to open the cavity such that the closure is retained on the male mold core. The male mold core is rotated relative to the first mold assembly to unthread the core from within the closure, and thereby strip the closure from the core, without stretching the closure skirt over the core or wiping the internal thread over the external surface of the mold core.

  • Patent number: 6571950
Abstract: A two-piece cosmetic applicator operable with one hand for dispensing cosmetic products such as lipstick, lip balm and the like is disclosed. The applicator is an assembly of a sheet stock preform and a product elevator. The sheet stock preform comprises a plurality of substantially rectangular panels which are adapted to receive the product elevator made of a thin sheet of plastic material with a product cup at one end for receiving the cosmetic product, and a tab and flexible cover member at the other end. The product elevator is moveable vertically upon assembly to retract or dispense product from the applicator.

  • Patent number: 6536686
Abstract: The selector wheel is mounted to rotate about the axis of the nozzle cap, and a spray window and foaming sleeve are formed in the wheel offset from the axis. The window or sleeve is registrable with the offset spray orifice by rotating the wheel. Either window or sleeve can be brought into registry so that the discharge is spray or foam.

  • Patent number: 6533136
Abstract: A method of making a package that includes the steps of blow molding a hollow plastic container, including blow molding a finish and a moil or dome that extends from the finish, and trimming the moil from the container finish so as to leave a conical flange extending inwardly and upwardly from the finish terminating in a smooth trimmed surface. A closure is provided having a base wall and a peripheral skirt. A liner is secured to the base wall within the skirt, and has a sealing surface spaced from the skirt. The closure is secured to the container finish in such a way that the container flange extending from the finish is deformed radially inwardly and axially downwardly by a peripheral portion of the liner so as to bring the trimmed surface of the container flange into abutment sealing engagement with the sealing surface of the liner.

  • Patent number: 6520378
Abstract: A dual-outlet dispensing closure for dispensing fluid products from a dual-chamber container that includes a base for securement to a container and having laterally adjacent outlet openings for alignment with outlets in the container. A turret is mounted on the base for conjoint pivotal movement of dual outlet passages between a closed position in which the turret blocks the outlet openings in the base, and an open position in which the turret passages are aligned with and open to the outlet openings to dispense product. The passages are preferably provided in the form of elongated barrels that are angulated with respect to each other so that the fluid products dispensed from the respective barrels meet and mix with each other at a position spaced from the closure. The base preferably includes vent openings for venting the container chambers to atmosphere as products are dispensed from the container.

  • Patent number: 6508373
Abstract: A child resistant container and closure package includes a container of one-piece integrally molded plastic construction having a cylindrical finish, a shoulder connecting the finish to a side wall, a ring externally extending around the finish, and a tab extending from the ring and separated from the finish by a tangential slot. A stop lug is cantilevered from the tab and has oppositely oriented stop and cam faces. One or two ribs extend tangentially along an undersurface of the tab. A closure has a base wall with a peripheral skirt and an internal thread for securement to an external thread on the container finish.

  • Patent number: 6502717
Abstract: A pill dispensing package that includes a circular base having a pill dispensing opening adjacent to its periphery. A circular package disk has a peripheral array of frangible elements containing pills to be dispensed disposed for selective alignment with the base dispensing opening, and indicia for indicating dosage periodicity. A circular cover overlies the package disk, and is moveably secured to the base. The cover has a window for observing the periodicity indicia on the package disk, and a button for manual urging against the package disk to dispense a pill through the base opening from the frangible element aligned with the opening. The cover is resiliently urged axially away from the base and circumferentially with respect to the base, and is constructed to permit limited axial and circumferential movement with respect to the base.

  • Patent number: 6499900
Abstract: A package for containing and dispensing a multiple-component liquid solution includes a product chamber member movably mounted within the sidewall of a canister, and defining at least first and second separate product chambers for containing liquids to be dispensed. First and second pistons are mounted in fixed positions within the canister and respectively slidably disposed within the first and second chambers. First and second passages extend from the respective pistons for feeding liquids displaced from the chambers through a manifold to a surface applicator mounted on the canister. Cooperating structure on the canister and the chamber member is manipulated by a user to move the chamber member within the canister over the pistons, and thereby to displace liquids from the chambers through the pistons to the manifold, in which the liquids are mixed and fed to the applicator.

  • Patent number: 6494866
Abstract: A plunger rod for a syringe in is of integrally injection molded plastic construction having an elongated body with a coaxial end portion. An external thread extends around the end portion for threaded receipt into a plunger tip that is slidably received in a syringe barrel. A flat extends chordally across the end portion of the rod body interrupting the external thread. The plastic, of which the plunger rod is molded, is gated into the mold for the plunger rod at the flat that extends across the rod end portion, leaving a gate mark or vestige on the flat. Gating of the plastic material into the portion of the mold that forms the threaded end portion of the plunger rod achieves improved flow and improved filling of the external thread, while employing a simple and economical mold construction. The gate vestige does not interfere with threading of the plunger rod end portion into the plunger tip.

  • Patent number: 6478568
Abstract: A method and apparatus for compression molding plastic articles such as closures include a plurality of tools mounted in opposed pairs with the tools of each pair including opposed male and female mold sections. The tool pairs are mounted for motion in an endless path. The tool pairs and associated mold sections are closed during motion in the path for compression a molding charge in the mold cavity formed between the mold sections of each pair, and opening the mold cavity to release an article formed between the mold sections. A latch mechanism is associated with each pair of tools for holding the tools and mold sections in the closed position during motion in the path independent of the mechanism for closing the tools and mold halves. In this way, forces imparted to the mold halves and tools to hold the mold closed are isolated from the machine frame. The latch mechanism is selectively unlatched to permit opening of the mold halves and release of the article compression-molded between the mold halves.
