  • Patent number: 6123880
Abstract: A method for compression molding plastic articles such as closures include a plurality of tools mounted in opposed pairs with the tools of each pair including opposed male and female mold sections. The tool pairs are mounted for motion in an endless path. The tool pairs and associated mold sections are closed during motion in the path for compression a molding charge in the mold cavity formed between the mold sections of each pair, and opening the mold cavity to release an article formed between the mold sections. A latch mechanism is associated with each pair of tools for holding the tools and mold sections in the closed position during motion in the path independent of the mechanism for closing the tools and mold halves. In this way, forces imparted to the mold halves and tools to hold the mold closed are isolated from the machine frame. The latch mechanism is selectively unlatched to permit opening of the mold halves and release of the article compression-molded between the mold halves.

  • Patent number: 6112921
Abstract: A child-resistant closure that includes a base wall, a peripheral outer wall extending from the base wall, and an inner wall spaced radially inwardly from the outer wall and having an internal thread for securement to a container finish. The outer wall of the closure has diametrically opposed circumferential gaps, and the inner wall extends axially in radial alignment with the gaps in the outer wall for circumferential abutment with lugs on a shoulder of the container. The inner wall is flexible inwardly for clearing the container lugs and permitting removal of the closure from the container finish. The outer wall thus protects the force application area of the inner wall by reason of the fact that such force application area is recessed inwardly with respect to the circumference of the outer wall. The closure resists application of planer force to the removal area of the inner wall, such as by a child biting the closure.

  • Patent number: 6068371
Abstract: An ink containment and dispensing device for an ink-jet printer is provided with a main reservoir in the form of a flexible pouch, which is typically maintained at ambient pressure. The main reservoir is coupled to a variable volume chamber via a one-way valve which allows the flow of ink from the reservoir to the chamber and prevents the flow of ink from the chamber to the reservoir. The chamber is coupled to a fluid outlet, which is normally closed to prevent the outward flow of ink. However, when the ink supply is installed in a printer, the fluid outlet establishes a fluid connection between the chamber and the printer. The chamber is part of a pump provided with the ink supply that can be actuated to supply ink from the reservoir to the printer. The pump has a linearly acting pumping member and a flexible diaphragm that overlies the pumping member, the diaphragm being impervious to the transmission of oxygen and moisture therethrough to prevent degradation of the ink within the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6065647
Abstract: Lotion pump has a stepped piston telescoping inside a stepped body to define a pumping chamber. The piston has a downward annular wall having inlet and discharge apertures, one above the other, to the pumping chamber. A stem integral with the actuator has a sealing head inside the annular wall which shuttles up and down between positions at which it covers one aperture or the other. Shuttling is implemented by lost-motion between the actuator spout/stem and piston. A spring urges the stem up at all times. The actuator can be turned to lock the head over the discharge aperture by nullifying the lost-motion. Further turning can lock the stem in lockdown position. One-directional turnback can liberate the head and unlock the lockdown. Detents control sequence of unlocking.
