  • Patent number: 6343725
Abstract: A toggle-action dispensing closure includes a base having an upper edge, and internal thread or bead for securement to a container, and a recessed deck disposed beneath the upper edge and having a fluid dispensing opening. A dispensing disk or actuator is pivotally mounted to the base above the deck, and includes a seal for cooperating with the dispensing opening for selectively opening and closing the dispensing opening. A lug element on a periphery of the disk has a sharp edge in opposed abutment with the upper edge of the base to resist first movement of the actuator to open the dispensing opening. First movement of the actuator to open the dispensing opening causes permanent deformation at the upper edge of the base and/or at the lower edge of the element, such that the element and the edge present lesser resistance to opening of the actuator after such first opening.

  • Patent number: 6341716
Abstract: A dual-outlet dispensing closure for dispensing fluid products from a dual-chamber container that includes a base for securement to a container and having laterally adjacent outlet openings for alignment with outlets in the container. A turret is mounted on the base for conjoint pivotal movement of dual outlet passages between a closed position in which the turret blocks the outlet openings in the base, and an open position in which the turret passages are aligned with and open to the outlet openings to dispense product. The passages are preferably provided in the form of elongated barrels that are angulated with respect to each other so that the fluid products dispensed from the respective barrels meet and mix with each other at a position spaced from the closure. The base preferably includes vent openings for venting the container chambers to atmosphere as products are dispensed from the container.

  • Patent number: 6325252
Abstract: A dispensing package that includes a container having a body with a shoulder of predetermined peripheral contour and a dispensing closure assembly secured to the finish container. The dispensing closure assembly includes a dispensing engine having a base secured to the container finish and a valve element mounted to the base for opening and closing a dispensing opening in the engine base. A shell has an upper surface with a pocket within which the base of the dispensing engine is mounted so that the valve element is flush with the upper surface of the shell in the closed position of the valve element. The shell pocket has a base wall against which the engine base rests, and the engine base extends through an opening in the shell base wall for securement to the container finish. The shell is firmly captured between the dispensing engine and the container shoulder. The shell has an outer peripheral wall that depends from the upper surface to adjacent the shoulder of the container.

  • Patent number: 6325253
Abstract: A fluid dispensing closure includes a housing having a base with an internal thread or bead for securement to a container, and a peripheral wall extending from the base and converging toward an opening spaced from the base. A flexible resilient liner is captured within the peripheral wall of the housing. The liner has a flange extending axially through the opening at the upper end of the housing and radially overlying the peripheral wall of the housing. A flow tip, which has a body with at least one flow passage, is captured within the liner, and extends through the liner flange and the housing opening. Pressure applied to the flange by fluid in the passage resiliently expands the flange away from the flow tip to permit egress of fluid from the passage, and removal of such fluid pressure allows resilient collapse of the liner over the passage.

  • Patent number: 6315162
Abstract: The dispenser comprises a plunger operating in a hollow body. The body has formed adjacent its upper end with an inward and downward annular flap. Below the flap is a vent hole. The plunger stem has a tapered zone leading to a greater diameter above the tapered zone. When the plunger is in its lockdown position, the flap cooperates with the greater diameter to provide a vent seal. The flap is backed by an outward step in the diameter of the body.

  • Patent number: 6308862
Abstract: A dispenser package for dispensing dual viscous products which are separately retained within the package and merged at a dispensing nozzle. The dispensing package comprises a container having a compressible portion and a hanger and pouch assembly of plastic material suspended in the container. The hanger has an upper portion with a pair of openings. A flexible film pouch having an opening is bonded in each opening in the hanger and has portions bonded to the hanger. The hanger has lower portions comprising of spaced flexible walls associated with each pouch. The head assembly includes a one-way valve associated with each opening in the hanger and a portion which maintains the viscous products from each of the pouches separate until they pass from a nozzle on the head assembly to the exterior when the compressible portion of the container is squeezed.

  • Patent number: 6298554
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a squeeze-type container package that comprises a flexible resilient container body and a self-sealing closure assembly mounted to the mouth of the container body. The self-sealing closure assembly includes a dispensing valve of one-piece integrally molded elastic construction having an annular base, an internal wall portion that extends radially inwardly and axially from the base, and a mouth portion that includes a slit opening oriented diametrically of the annular base. Internal stresses within the wall portion bias the slit to the closed position. An annular lip that extends radially outwardly from the valve cooperates with an annular internal rib on the closure for venting the interior of the container body to atmosphere when the container body is released following dispensing of product.

  • Patent number: 6299428
Abstract: A method and apparatus for compression molding plastic articles such as closures include a plurality of tools mounted in opposed pairs with the tools of each pair including opposed male and female mold sections. The tool pairs are mounted for motion in an endless path. The tool pairs and associated mold sections are closed during motion in the path for compression a molding charge in the mold cavity formed between the mold sections of each pair, and opening the mold cavity to release an article formed between the mold sections. A latch mechanism is associated with each pair of tools for holding the tools and mold sections in the closed position during motion in the path independent of the mechanism for closing the tools and mold halves. In this way, forces imparted to the mold halves and tools to hold the mold closed are isolated from the machine frame. The latch mechanism is selectively unlatched to permit opening of the mold halves and release of the article compression-molded between the mold halves.

  • Patent number: 6299036
Abstract: A two-piece, self-cleansing dispensing closure operable with one hand is disclosed attachable to containers with liquid product. The dispensing closure is an assembly of a closure top and a closure base which are slidably interconnected so that the closure top is laterally movable to open and close the dispensing closure to dispense product from the side of the closure through a dispensing opening. The closure base comprises a hollow tubular enclosure which defines a dispensing channel adapted to receive a plug member on the closure top and an attachment means on the closure base and closure top which allows the slidable interconnection of said pieces. To dispense product from a container attached to the dispensing closure, the closure top is moved laterally away from the dispensing opening so that the plug member slides within the dispensing channel to a position where the dispensing opening is uncovered and product can flow from the container to the dispensing channel and out of the dispensing opening.

  • Patent number: 6253940
Abstract: A tamper-indicating closure of integrally molded plastic construction that includes a base wall having a peripheral skirt with an internal thread for affixing the closure to the container finish. A tamper-indicating band is connected to an edge of the skirt by frangible bridges. A stop flange extends from an edge of the band remote from the skirt for abutment with a bead on the container finish to inhibit removal of the closure absent fracture of the frangible means. A plurality of circumferentially spaced openings extend radially through the skirt at a position between the frangible bridges and the internal thread. These openings provide for ingress of cleansing solution during a washing operation after the closure is applied to a container to flush any residue from between the tamper-indicating band and the closure finish.
