  • Patent number: 7058123
Abstract: Method for performing a startup session to establish a communication session between a remote communication system and a central communication system. A start-up procedure is initiated by one of the remote communication system and the central communication system. The remote communication system selects one of a full duplex operating mode and a half duplex operating mode in response to a request by the central communication system. The remote communication system and the central communication system then exchange data representing a capability of at least one communication standard that is usable by each communication system to select a mutually compatible communication standard, so that the remote communication system can initiate the communication session using the acknowledged full duplex or half duplex operating mode.

  • Publication number: 20060077462
Abstract: An Internet facsimile apparatus is configured to receive e-mail and to print the e-mail. The Internet facsimile apparatus includes a controller that determines whether the received e-mail includes a text part when it is determined that the received e-mail comprises a multipart structure, and determines whether the text part includes a predetermined pair of codes. The controller replaces a character string between the predetermined pair of codes with another predetermined code when it is determined that the text part includes the predetermined pair of codes, so that the character string replaced by the another predetermined code is not printed.

  • Patent number: 7027192
Abstract: When characters are input, the input information is sequentially displayed on a first display, an e-mail address, which is registered in a one-touch key registration area, is retrieved by using the input information, and the retrieved e-mail address is displayed on a second display. Further, when an @ mark is input after a character string input, the information displayed on the second display is switched to a domain name read from the domain name registration area. Thus, the @ mark key, which is always used to input e-mail addresses, is also utilized to switch the display information. Accordingly, the data communication apparatus is capable to prevent the inconvenience of inputting the entire e-mail addresses and to prevent input errors.

  • Patent number: 7012708
Abstract: An IFAX on a transmitting end gains access to an ISP on the transmitting end by dialup. The IFAX on the transmitting end transmits mail transmission notice to an IFAX on a receiving end via a PSTN after transmitting e-mail to the ISP on the transmitting end. Thereafter, the IFAX on the receiving end gains access to an ISP on the receiving end by dialup in accordance with mail transmission notice and receives e-mail stored in its own postbox. The mail transmission notice is performed using a facsimile communication protocol. The mail transmission notice includes at least one of transmission finished notice information, sent data information, and receiving information. This eliminates the unavailing mail check connection and reduces access charge at a dialup IFAX of the Internet facsimile.

  • Patent number: 7006261
Abstract: A MODEM can shorten the processing time of an interface disposed between a data terminal equipment (DTE) and the MODEM. The MODEM stores an object program of a procedure in a memory and switches an operational mode of the MODEM automatically corresponding to the prescribed procedure thereby executing the procedure corresponding to the current operational mode. The MODEM further comprises a timer which monitors the transits time between a completed procedure and the next procedure, and the MODEM starts the process of a specified operational mode based on a mode-setting-instruction of the procedure as well as monitoring the transitions time by using the timer, and executing a next specified operational mode when the timer times out, thereby allowing the MODEM to perform the various operational mode switches.

  • Patent number: 6985242
Abstract: An Internet facsimile apparatus as a sender makes inquiry about capability, which a destination Internet facsimile apparatus possesses, to a local server in a local network. When the local server has no capability information of the destination stored, the sender makes inquiry to a DNS server higher than the local server and obtains capability information of the destination from the DNS server. Then, the sender registers the obtained capability information of the destination to a memory, which the local server or the sender has. This realizes that the sender can surely obtain capability information of the destination. Also, this makes it possible to automatically register capability information of the destination to the memory of the local server or the sender.
