Abstract: A character recognition section generates character recognition result information resulting from character recognition of image information. An image information cutout section cuts out character recognition image information, corresponding to an area as to which the character recognition is performed, from the image information. A recognition result generation section generates recognition result information which is composed of the character recognition result information and the character recognition image information. A recognition result transmission section transmits the recognition result information to other terminals using electronic mail. As a result, an information communications apparatus of the invention can make transmissions of information to the wide area, without increasing the network load, which is to be used for the determination of whether or not a character recognition has been accurately performed.

Abstract: A mail notification apparatus is provided that enables a user of a cellular phone to know of the arrival of an electronic mail, even when the user is away from his/her office. The mail notification apparatus stores an electronic mail address of a local mail account in association with a mail address of a cellular phone. When it is determined that the electronic mail has arrived at the electronic mail address, the mail notification apparatus notifies, by using electronic mail, the arrival of the electronic mail to the cellular phone through the Internet and a communication vender mail server.

Abstract: An error detecting section detects an error caused in a mail transmitting section. The error detecting section instructs an error message data generating section to generate an error message data when detecting the error. The error message data includes a character string generated to correspond to the error, and a code. The error message data generating section transmits generated error message data to an ICMP processing section. The ICMP processing section has a function of notifying a communication partner of information using a packet in accordance with a protocol for management, which reports information of a protocol state of IP layer, that is ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol). The ICMP processing section puts error message data into a Data frame of the packet, and transmits this packet to a predetermined destination via LAN.

Abstract: IFAX determines whether IFAX transmission processing or network scanner processing should be performed based on whether a start button or a scanner button is pressed on after an operator inputs a destination mail address. In a case of performing IFAX transmission processing, a journal is superimposed on an original image and e-mail is transmitted to the IFAX via a mail server. While, in a case of performing network scanner processing, the IFAX does not perform the creation of journal, bitmapping, compression, and combination with the original image. Therefore, the original image can be transferred to a PC without superimposing the journal thereon. This prevents the trouble in which the journal hinders the PC from dealing with the original image.

A memory stores data and communication parameters corresponding to each destination terminal, the communication parameters being utilized to perform communication with the destination terminal. When destination terminal data is stored in the memory, a controller reads the communication parameters corresponding to the destination terminal from the memory, performs the pre-communication protocol with the destination terminal, using the read communication parameters, and omits at least a communication protocol for line probing.

Abstract: A facsimile control section detects whether or not a transmission destination is busy. When the busy state is detected, the facsimile control section notifies a busy notification mail generating section that the busy state has been detected. In accordance with this notification, the busy notification mail generating section generates a busy notification mail and instructs a mail transmitting section to transmit the generated mail. Thereafter, the facsimile control section executes a retry of facsimile transmission to a facsimile apparatus of transmission destination. This makes it possible for a request source, which is placed at a remote site and the like, to easily recognize whether or not a relay apparatus is retrying.

A receiver receives the e-mail data from a requesting node. A memory stores a password and a domain name of a requesting node. An acquiring section acquires a destination address including at least a telephone number, a password and a domain name, from the requesting node. A converter converts the e-mail data into facsimile data. A comparator compares the password and the domain name acquired by the acquiring section, with the password and the domain name stored in the memory, respectively. A facsimile transmitter transmits the converted facsimile data to the facsimile destination designated by the telephone number when a result of the comparison indicates that the password and the domain name acquired are the same as the password and the domain name stored in said memory.

Abstract: A multi-function system starts a WWW server by use of a WWW server section. When Java acceptable browser gains access to the WWW server, the WWW server section transfers an applet class file to Java acceptable browser. An applet is executed on the Java acceptable browser. The applet establishes a communication line between a TCP/IP processing section of a reception notify processing section and the applet, and a reception notify transmitting section notifies the applet of reception notification. The applet displays reception notification on PC. This makes it possible to notify an outer terminal of data reception in substantially real time.
