Abstract: A method for a remote communication system to perform a startup session to establish a communication between the remote communication system and a central communication system. The remote communication system initiates a startup procedure by transmitting a R-TONES-REQ signal to the central communication system. Upon detecting a C-TONES signal, which is issued by the central communication system in response to the transmitted R-TONES-REQ signal, the remote communication system transmits a R-TONE1 signal to the central communication system. Upon detecting a C-GALF1 signal, which is issued by the central communication system in response to the transmitted R-TONE1 signal, the remote communication system transmits a R-FLAG1 signal to the central communication system. Thereafter, the remote communication system establishes a communication session in response to detecting a C-FLAG1 signal issued by the central communication system in response to the R-FLAG1 signal.
Abstract: A particular image written in a particular paper of a particular paper size is scanned by a scanner to produce image data, a format of the image data is changed to a mail format to change the image data to mail data, the particular paper size is added to the mail data, and the mail data is transmitted from a transmitting side to a receiving side through a LAN by an electronic mail. In the receiving side, the mail data is changed to reproduced image data, and it is judged whether or not the particular paper size of the particular paper is larger than a prescribed paper size treatable on the receiving side. In cases where the particular paper size is larger than the prescribed paper size, the reproduced image data is thinned out to produce adjusted image data, and a downsized image is printed on a prescribed paper of the prescribed paper size according to the adjusted image data.
Abstract: A communication apparatus that is selectively connectable to a communication device. A communicator executes a first communication mode to transmit a first predetermined signal to a communication device that designates a specific mode, and the communication device responds by issuing a second predetermined signal. The communicator executes a second communication mode to transmit a third predetermined signal to the communication device that requests a transmission of the first predetermined signal from the communication device, and upon receipt of the first predetermined signal from the communication device, transmits the second predetermined signal to the communication device. A controller controls the execution of either the first communication mode or the second communication mode upon initializing a communication with the communication device.

Abstract: The present invention calculates a product of the present sampling data by the sampling data one data unit ahead through a multiplier, adds up product values calculated for every sampling by adding product values calculated from previous samples occurring one data unit in advance through an adder and detects a reference timing with regard to a CP (cycle prefix) signal using the addition value.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for determining transmission parameters while initializing a communication link. An initiating communication device includes a parameter indicating device, a measurement receiving section, a parameter receiving device, a measurement transmission section, and a selecting device. The parameter indicating device transmits first transmission parameters that can be used by a responding communication device. In response to the transmitted first transmission parameters, the measurement receiving section receives first signals issued by the responding communication device. The parameter receiving device receives second transmission parameters that are issued by the responding communication device. The measurement transmission section functions to transmit second signals to the responding communication device, in response to the received second transmission parameters.
Abstract: A data communication apparatus includes a communication section that performs a pre-communication protocol and transmits data to a destination terminal. A memory stores data and communication parameters corresponding to each destination terminal, the communication parameters being utilized to perform communication with the destination terminal. When data corresponding to a destination terminal data is stored in the memory, a controller performs the pre-communication protocol with the destination terminal, using the stored communication parameters corresponding to the destination terminal. When a communication error occurs in a communication with a particular destination terminal having data stored in the memory, a memory controller deletes communication parameters corresponding to the particular destination terminal from the memory.
Abstract: A communication control apparatus of the present invention detects a procedure signal transmitted from a calling side from signals received in reception section while or after a transmission section, which transmits procedure signals specified in the predetermined Recommendation, transmits a DIS signal specified in Recommendation T.30 or a procedure signal used in a data communication. Then, the apparatus shifts to a communication operation conforming to Recommendation V.8 when the detected procedure signal is a CM signal specified in Recommendation V.8, while shifting to a data communication operation when the detected signal is the procedure signal used in the data communication. Thus, the present invention enables the apparatus to shift to the communication operation corresponding to the detected procedure signal, and therefore it is possible to assuredly prevent the apparatus from causing the looped condition thereof.
Abstract: A communication apparatus and method utilizing a Digital Subscriber Line (XDSL) modem that is selectively connected to a central communication apparatus to perform a full duplex communication. A communicator transmits a plurality of Mode Request (MR) signals to the central communication apparatus. The plurality of MR signals requesting that the central communication apparatus respond by transmitting a plurality of Mode Select (MS) signals to the communication apparatus. The plurality of MS signals designate a particular communication mode. First frequencies utilized by the plurality of MR signals and second frequencies utilized by the plurality of MS signals belong to a mutually different band. Further, the plurality of MR signals carry identical data with an identical timing, but have different carrier frequencies.
Abstract: A communication apparatus includes a scanner configured to scan a document to obtain binary image data, an adder that adds paper size information to the obtained binary image data and a converter that converts the binary image data, including the paper size information, into e-mail data. A transmitter transmits the converted e-mail data, including the paper size information to a destination terminal over a network so that the destination terminal can determine whether to downsize the binary image data in the e-mail data in accordance with the paper size information.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for minimizing a retransmission of messages when an error message is received during a communication handshaking procedure. A receiver, that detects an error message during the communication handshaking procedure, receives messages from a communication apparatus. When the receiver detects the error message, a retransmission requester transmits a retransmission request message to the communication apparatus.
Abstract: This Internet facsimile apparatus comprises a panel with a plurality of buttons, memory to store a default domain name, panel input control section that if a user name is input from said panel, adds said default domain name to said user name to create a mail address and mail transmission processing section that transmits e-mail directed to said mail address.
Abstract: In a facsimile system adapted to receive data via a LAN (Internet facsimile system), when the facsimile machine is unable to print or otherwise process the received data, and has no mass storage device, the received data is rerouted to the other terminal connected to the LAN so that the received data may be readily retrieved at all times. Such a situation can occur as a result of a failure of the printer unit, running out of printing paper, experiencing an unchanged state of the image memory for more than a prescribed time period, experiencing a memory-full state of the image memory for more than a prescribed time period, and detecting the received data to be based on a format which the facsimile system is unable to handle. Therefore, the received data can be made readily available for the interested party, and the safety of the received data can be improved.
Abstract: A RARP processing section of a network scanner obtains a MAC address corresponding to a user name from a MAC address table, and broadcasts a RARP request by use of this MAC address. While, a PC sends a pair of a self-IP address and a mail address to a RARP processing section in response to the RARP request. After obtaining an IP address of this PC, a scanner scans an original, and generates e-mail to which the image is appended. Next, an SMTP transmitting section directly transmits the generated e-mail to the PC. At this time, the SMTP transmitting section uses the IP address of PC obtained by the RARP processing section. In the network to which HDCP is introduced, the network scanner automatically obtains the IP address of PC, and directly transmits image data to the PC.
Abstract: A facsimile apparatus transmits facsimile data converted from e-mail data to a facsimile destination via a public communication network. A receiver receives the e-mail data from a requesting node. A memory stores a password and a domain name of a requesting node. An acquiring section acquires a destination address including at least a telephone number, a password and a domain name, from the requesting node. A converter converts the e-mail data into facsimile data. A comparator compares the password and the domain name acquired by the acquiring section, with the password and the domain name stored in the memory, respectively. A facsimile transmitter transmits the converted facsimile data to the facsimile destination designated by the telephone number when a result of the comparison indicates that the password and the domain name acquired are the same as the password and the domain name stored in said memory.
