Abstract: A system for monitoring individual food intake of a livestock animal includes a calibration system configured to measure weight or volume of food intake of an animal over a pre-defined period of time and to calibrate a mathematical model for the animal based on the measure, a tracking system configured track animal eating behavior at times other than the pre-defined period of time and a computing system. The pre-defined period of time is less than three weeks. The mathematical model relates eating behavior of the animal and defined physiological parameters of the animal with food intake. The computing system determines food intake of the animal over a lactation period based on the mathematical model for the animal as calibrated and the eating behavior at the times other than the pre-defined period of time.

  • Publication number: 20200306295
Abstract: Confronted with the rapid evolution and dissemination of antibiotic resistance, there is an urgent need to develop alternative treatment strategies for drug-resistant S. aureus, especially for methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). We report a photonic approach to eradicate MRSA through blue-light photolysis of staphyloxanthin (STX), an anti-oxidative carotenoid acting as the constituent lipid of the functional membrane microdomains of S. aureus. Our transient absorption imaging study and mass spectrometry unveil the photolysis process of STX. After effective STX photolysis by pulsed laser, cell membranes are found severely disorganized and malfunctioned to defense antibiotics, as unveiled by membrane permeabilization, membrane fluidification, and detachment of membrane protein, PBP2a.

  • Publication number: 20200310469
Abstract: According to a moving body, position and direction of a user are calculated from distance measurement data, and on the basis thereof, the position and direction of the moving body are calculated. If the moving body is located in the first or fourth quadrant of the user coordinate system, a right-side moving target is set as the moving target. If the moving body is in the second or the third quadrant of the user coordinate system, a left-side moving target is set as the moving target. Accordingly, the moving target is set on the basis of the position of the moving body with respect to the user, so the moving body is prevented from cutting across in front of the user while its travelling.

  • Publication number: 20200310400
Abstract: A system evaluates a plurality of faults in an operation of a machine at a set of future instances of time. The system uses a neural network including a first subnetwork sequentially connected with a sequence of second subnetworks for each of the future instance of time such that an output of one subnetwork is an input to a subsequent subnetwork. The first subnetwork accepts the current time-series data and the current setpoints of operation of the machine. Each of the second subnetworks accepts the output of a preceding subnetwork, an internal state of the preceding subnetwork, and a future setpoint for a corresponding future instance of time. Each of the second subnetworks outputs an individual prediction of each fault of a plurality of faults at the corresponding future instance of time.
