Abstract: Provided herein are embodiments of an aversive cable. The cable includes a cable core comprising a longitudinal axis, a cable jacket surrounding the cable core along the longitudinal axis, and at least one sacrificial lobe. The cable jacket has an outer surface, and each of the at least one sacrificial lobe extends longitudinally along at least a portion of cable jacket and radially outward from the outer surface of the cable jacket. The cable jacket and the at least one sacrificial lobe include an aversive material. In embodiments, the sacrificial lobes are included on a cable sheath instead of the cable jacket, and the cable sheath surrounds the cable jacket without being bonded to the cable jacket.

Abstract: A microfabricated valve with no moving parts. In one embodiment, the valve includes a reservoir of a liquid that is in fluid communication with an outlet channel having a throat that is less than 100 microns wide. Preferably, the channel is an elongated slit. The configuration of channel is adapted and configured such that surface tension of the liquid prevents flow out of the channel. A heater increases the temperature of the meniscus of the fluid, until a portion of the fluid is ejected from the channel. The ejection of the fluid creates both a thrusting effect and a cooling effect.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method for knocking out an N-myristoyltransferase (NMT) gene from Eimeria tenella, and belongs to the technical field of microorganisms. The method includes: mixing sporozoites of Eimeria tenella with a pCRISPR::EtNMT plasmid and a pEtNMT::DHFR plasmid, and subjecting a resulting mixture to electrotransformation to obtain NMT gene-knockout Eimeria tenella. The method provided by the present disclosure can successfully knock out the NMT gene from Eimeria tenella, which lays a foundation for studying the function of the Eimeria tenella gene and developing a vaccine therefor.

Abstract: A thermoforming apparatus is provided having a frame, a pair of platens, and a platen drive assembly. The platens are carried by the frame on opposite sides of a sheet line each configured to carry a respective die. One platen has a proximal die surface adjacent the sheet line and a rear surface distal the sheet line. The platen drive assembly is interposed between the frame and the one platen and has at least one reciprocating kinematic linkage and a drive motor configured to reciprocate the one platen to and fro relative to another platen. The kinematic linkage has a plurality of links interconnected pivotally together with respective rotation joints and interposed between the frame and the one platen. An outboard-most rotation joint is provided proximate one end of the frame and an inboard-most rotation joint intermediate the rear surface and the proximal die surface. A method is also provided.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to the fields of applied meteorology, in particular to a visualization analysis method of the tropical cyclone forecast verification index data, which comprises the following steps: acquiring tropical cyclone data; obtaining a track forecast verification index and an intensity forecast verification index of the tropical cyclone with the tropical cyclone data; obtaining a visible view of the tropical cyclone track forecast error and a visible view of the tropical cyclone intensity forecast error according to the track forecast verification index and the intensity forecast verification index, and in combination with the geographic information of the tropical cyclone; obtaining a first error and a second error according to the track forecast verification index, and obtaining a joint distribution map of the first error and the second error by using the first error and the second error; obtaining a composite box-shaped histogram through the intensity forecast verification index.
