Patent number: 11855813Abstract: The nonlinearity of power amplifiers (PAs) has been a severe constraint in performance of modern wireless transceivers. This problem is even more challenging for the fifth generation (5G) cellular system since 5G signals have extremely high peak to average power ratio. Nonlinear equalizers that exploit both deep neural networks (DNNs) and Volterra series models are provided to mitigate PA nonlinear distortions. The DNN equalizer architecture consists of multiple convolutional layers. The input features are designed according to the Volterra series model of nonlinear PAs. This enables the DNN equalizer to effectively mitigate nonlinear PA distortions while avoiding over-fitting under limited training data. The non-linear equalizers demonstrate superior performance over conventional nonlinear equalization approaches.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2022Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Assignee: The Research Foundation for SUNYInventors: Xiaohua Li, Robert Thompson

Patent number: 11851368Abstract: An optical nanocomposite containing optically active crystals and suitable to be drawn into fiber form, dissolved into solution and subsequently deposited as a thin film, or used as a bulk optical component. This invention integrates compositional tailoring to enable matching of optical properties (index, dispersion, do/dT), specialized dispersion methods to ensure homogeneous physical dispersion of NCs within the glass matrix during preparation, while minimizing agglomeration and mismatch of coefficient of thermal expansion. By tailoring the base glass composition's viscosity versus temperature profile, the resulting bulk nanocomposite can be further formed to create an optical fiber, while maintaining physical dispersion of NCs, avoiding segregation of the NCs.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2019Date of Patent: December 26, 2023Assignee: UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA RESEARCH FOUNDATIONInventors: Kenneth Schepler, Kathleen Richardson, Martin Richardson, Chanelle Arias, Myungkoo Kang

Patent number: 11849984Abstract: A method and system for performing bone fusion and/or securing one or more bones, such as adjacent vertebra, are disclosed. The screws include a threaded tip connected to a main shaft and a threaded outer sleeve that rotates relative to the outer shaft until locked down. Independent rotation of the threaded outer sleeve relative to the threaded distal tip allows compression or distraction to modify the gap between the vertebral bodies. The screws are passed from the inferior to superior vertebra or superior to inferior, for example, through a trans-pedicular route to avoid neurological compromise. At the same time, the path of screw insertion is oriented to reach superior or inferior vertebra.
