Abstract: Disclosed is a phase demodulator, which includes a transmitter that outputs a reference signal to a target, a receiver that receives a target signal generated in response to the reference signal from the target, and a demodulation processor that demodulates the target signal, and the demodulation processor includes a phase controller that outputs a first phase signal based on the reference signal, a phase shifter that delays a phase of the first phase signal to output a first delayed signal, a mixer that outputs a first mixing signal based on the target signal and the first delay signal, and an amplifier that outputs a first feedback signal generated by amplifying the first mixing signal to the phase controller.

Abstract: A method for producing polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber, the method comprising: (i) mixing PAN with an ionic liquid in which the PAN is soluble to produce a PAN composite melt in which the PAN is dissolved in the ionic liquid; (ii) melt spinning the PAN composite melt to produce the PAN fiber; and (iii) washing the PAN fiber with a solvent in which the ionic liquid is soluble to substantially remove the ionic liquid from the PAN fiber. Also described herein is a method for producing carbon fiber from the PAN fiber as produced above, the method comprising oxidatively stabilizing the PAN fiber produced in step (iii), followed by carbonizing the stabilized PAN fiber to produce the carbon fiber. The initially produced PAN fiber, stabilized PAN fiber, resulting carbon fiber, and articles made thereof are also described.

Abstract: Described herein is a catalytic reaction process including introducing one or more gas-phase reactants into a reactor comprising a microporous catalyst having a pore size less than or equal to 2 nm and adjusting the temperature and/or the pressure of the reactor such that one or more of the gas-phase reactants condense within the micropores of the catalyst thereby causing the catalytic reaction to take place in a liquid phase. Additionally, a process for engineering defects on a carboxylate-based metal organic framework (MOF) catalyst is described. The process includes providing a carboxylate-based MOF catalyst; and heating the carboxylate-based MOF catalyst in an inert gas atmosphere at temperatures between about 150° C. and about 900° C.

Abstract: A laser pulse shaping device and method, a pulse shaper, and an optical system are provided. The laser pulse shaping device includes a pulse shaper provided in an optical path connected to a laser source, a laser detection device provided at an actual position of a target of a laser pulse, and the laser source configured to generate the laser pulse, which is transmitted to the target through the optical path. The laser detection device is configured to measure and send an optical parameter of the laser pulse transmitted to the target to the control device. The control device is configured to calculate a phase compensation parameter according to the optical parameter and control the pulse shaper to compensate a phase of the laser pulse transmitted through the optical path according to the phase compensation parameter, such that the optical parameter of the laser pulse reaches a target value.

Abstract: A resistor mesh with distributed sensing points is provided in a security chip as an anti-tamper shield. An analog multiplexing circuit is configured to receive a pair of digital selection values created by an algorithm processing circuit, and produce a respective differential voltage formed by a pair of voltages obtained at a pair of selected sensing points within the resistor mesh corresponding to the pair of digital selection values. Each differential voltage is converted into a corresponding digital output value. An algorithm processing circuit is configured to receive a respective digital output value associated with each pair of digital selection values and derive a binary value based on a subset of the digital output values, wherein the binary value is unique to the security chip.
Abstract: A rollable optical fiber ribbon utilizing low attenuation, bend insensitive fibers and cables incorporating such rollable ribbons are provided. The optical fibers are supported by a ribbon body, and the ribbon body is formed from a flexible material such that the optical fibers are reversibly movable from an unrolled position to a rolled position. The optical fibers have a large mode filed diameter, such as ?9 microns at 1310 nm facilitating low attenuation splicing/connectorization. The optical fibers are also highly bend insensitive, such as having a macrobend loss of ?0.5 dB/turn at 1550 nm for a mandrel diameter of 15 mm.

Abstract: The functionality of a conventional mouse is extended to provide an extended number of simultaneously adjustable user interface parameters employing one or more user-removable modules. In an embodiment, a user interface for controlling an external device, such as a computer, includes a first user interface sensor configured with a housing. This first sensor generates a first plurality of signals responsive to movement of the housing relative to two orthogonal axes. A compartment is configured with the housing and is sized to receive the user-removable module. This user-removable module contains a second user interface sensor, which generates a second plurality of signals responsive to user manipulation. Output is provided responsive to signals generated by the first and second user interface sensors. In another embodiment, the housing of an extended functionality mouse itself serves as a module removable from a compartment provided in another physical device.
Abstract: A method for prioritizing occlusion information is presented. The method includes determining, at a first time period, a first sensor's view of a spatial area is occluded. The method also includes observing, at a second time period, the spatial area. The method further includes determining a level of risk associated with the spatial area based on the observation. The method still further includes prioritizing transmission of the occlusion information corresponding to the spatial area based on the determined level of risk and transmitting the occlusion information corresponding to the spatial area based on the priority.
