  • Patent number: 4843955
Abstract: A machine for brewing coffee or other hot beverages has a container for a supply of liquid, a heater, a hollow filter holder which can receive a relatively large quantity of comminuted coffee beans or another flavoring agent, and a riser which conveys heated liquid to the filter holder. The admitted liquid contacts the confined supply of flavoring agent and can be discharged by way of a sealable opening in the bottom wall of the filter holder. If the machine is to brew a single cupful or a similar relatively small quantity of a hot beverage, the holder receives an insert which can hold a small quantity of flavoring agent and is contacted by hot liquid before the liquid enters the interior of the holder where it can be stored or discharged into a cup or another relatively small vessel.

  • Patent number: 4843819
Abstract: A brake booster has a first booster cylinder and a booster piston disposed in it for displacing a master cylinder piston to pressurize a brake circuit. A tappet displaces the first booster piston directly if boost fluid pressure is inadequate. A second booster piston in a parallel booster cylinder drives a pump piston which also pressurizes the brake circuit. The second booster piston and the pump piston have hydraulically effective surface areas which are matched to one another so as to have a larger boosting ratio than the first booster piston and master cylinder piston. Forward displacement of the second booster piston causes a bent arm to contact and push the first booster piston forward. If the boost pressure supply apparatus fails, then only the first booster piston and the master cylinder piston are displaced by the brake pedal; brake pedal travel increases considerably.

  • Patent number: 4845667
Abstract: A method and apparatus for data exchange between a master microprocessor and a slave microprocessor, in which the connection is a parallel bus and the data exchange requires a minimum of time. For this purpose, the data are transmitted in a predetermined sequence and in which the transmission-start identifier is a signal train generated by the master processor which is specifically associated with data transmission. Preferably, a master processor and a slave processor are interconnected by the parallel data bus, with buffer memories, such as latches, interposed. A toggle flip-flop is connected to the interrupt input of the slave processor in such a way that merely placing a specific instruction (i.e. command+data) on the bus simultaneously notifies the slave processor to prepare for the exchange of data, thereby saving time.

  • Patent number: 4842496
Abstract: It is proposed that a drive tappet of a pump piston be provided with an integrated hydraulic supply onset adjusting device. This device includes an adjusting piston, which is guided in a work cylinder and is joined to the piston base of the pump piston, and a pressure chamber. The delivery of the control fluid pumped into the pressure chamber is effected via a delivery conduit discharging into the cylinder bore and a connecting conduit extending inside the pump piston and leading to the pressure chamber. By means of the control point located at the discharge point of the delivery conduit, relatively high control pressures can be fed into the system without relatively large leakage losses. The apparatus is usable in all piston-type supply pumps in which a control face on the pump piston, in cooperation with the control opening in the cylinder bore, determines the onset of supply.

  • Patent number: 4843489
Abstract: A first counter operating at the PCM sampling frequency counts out the normal minimum period between successive synchronization words in the data stream. In a following "window" the detection of another synchronization word produces a check signal and in all other cases a provisional check signal. In such other case the data for the next period are marked as dubious. A second counter counts out twice the minimum normal interval between synchronization words and in a following "window", the appearance of a synchronization word produces a verification signal. The occurrence of a verification signal one normal interval after a provisional check signal removes the marking of intervening data as "dubious". If no verification signal is then produced, the intervening data are marked and treated as erroneous.
